Multifractality without fine-tuning in a Floquet quasiperiodic chain

Periodically driven, or Floquet, disordered quantum systems have generated many unexpected discoveries of late, such as the anomalous Floquet Anderson insulator and the discrete time crystal. Here, we report the emergence of an entire band of multifractal wavefunctions in a periodically driven chain of non-interacting particles subject to spatially quasiperiodic disorder. Remarkably, this multifractality is robust in that it does not require any fine-tuning of the model parameters, which sets it apart from the known multifractality of criticalcritical wavefunctions. The multifractality arises as the periodic drive hybridises the localised and delocalised sectors of the undriven spectrum. We account for this phenomenon in a simple random matrix based theory. Finally, we discuss dynamical signatures of the multifractal states, which should betray their presence in cold atom experiments. Such a simple yet robust realisation of multifractality could advance this so far elusive phenomenon towards applications, such as the proposed disorder-induced enhancement of a superfluid transition.Comment: 22 pages, 13 figures, SciPost submissio

Looking for a heavy wino LSP in collider and dark matter experiments

    Get PDF
We investigate the phenomenology of a wino LSP as obtained in AMSB and some string models. The WMAP constraint on the DM relic density implies a wino LSP mass of 2.0-2.3 TeV. We find a viable signature for such a heavy wino at CLIC, operating at its highest CM energy of 5 TeV. One also expects a viable monochromatic γ\gamma-ray signal from its pair-annihilation at the galactic centre at least for cuspy DM halo profiles.Comment: A discussion on non-perturbative effects on annihilation cross section of TeV scale wino LSP added. Self assembled nanocages from DNA-protoporphyrin hybrid molecules

    Get PDF
DNA-organic hybrid molecular building blocks are generated by covalent conjugation of the carboxyl groups of protoporphyrin IX with the amine functional groups of modified DNA oligomers. The hybrids are used to engineer DNA nanocages by self-assembly of the complementary DNA-organic molecule conjugates. The nanocages were found to be lined up in head to tail fashion under the selective ionic strength of the solution. Computational approach revealed the area and volume acquired by each DNA-organic hybrid nanocages

Sinusoidal Excitations in Two Component Bose-Einstein Condensates

The non-linear coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equation governing the dynamics of the two component Bose-Einstein condensate (TBEC) is shown to admit pure sinusoidal, propagating wave solutions in quasi one dimensional geometry. These solutions, which exist for a wide parameter range, are then investigated in the presence of a harmonic oscillator trap with time dependent scattering length. This illustrates the procedure for coherent control of these modes through temporal modulation of the parameters, like scattering length and oscillator frequency. We subsequently analyzed this system in an optical lattice, where the occurrence of an irreversible phase transition from superfluid to insulator phase is seen.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figur

Universality in Fluid Domain Coarsening: The case of vapor-liquid transition

Domain growth during the kinetics of phase separation is studied following vapor-liquid transition in a single component Lennard-Jones fluid. Results are analyzed after appropriately mapping the continuum snapshots obtained from extensive molecular dynamics simulations to a simple cubic lattice. For near critical quench interconnected domain morphology is observed. A brief period of slow diffusive growth is followed by a linear viscous hydrodynamic growth that lasts for an extended period of time. This result is in contradiction with earlier inclusive reports of late time growth exponent 1/2 that questions the uniqueness of the non-equilibrium universality for liquid-liquid and vapor-liquid transitions.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure

Electrical Spin Injection in a Ferromagnetic / Tunnel Barrier/ Semiconductor Heterostructure

We demonstrate experimentally the electrical ballistic electron spin injection from a ferromagnetic metal / tunnel barrier contact into a semiconductor III-V heterostructure. We introduce the Oblique Hanle Effect technique for reliable optical measurement of the degree of injected spin polarization. In a CoFe / Al2O3 / GaAs / (Al,Ga)As heterostructure we observed injected spin polarization in excess of 8 % at 80K.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

Highly efficient room temperature spin injection in a metal-insulator-semiconductor light emitting diode

We demonstrate highly efficient spin injection at low and room temperature in an AlGaAs/GaAs semiconductor heterostructure from a CoFe/AlOx tunnel spin injector. We use a double-step oxide deposition for the fabrication of a pinhole-free AlOx tunnel barrier. The measurements of the circular polarization of the electroluminescence in the Oblique Hanle Effect geometry reveal injected spin polarizations of at least 24% at 80K and 12% at room temperature

One-loop contribution to the neutrino mass matrix in NMSSM with right-handed neutrinos and tri-bimaximal mixing

Neutrino mass patterns and mixing have been studied in the context of next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM) with three gauge singlet neutrino superfields. We consider the case with the assumption of R-parity conservation. The vacuum expectation value of the singlet scalar field SS of NMSSM induces the Majorana masses for the right-handed neutrinos as well as the usual μ\mu-term. The contributions to the light neutrino mass matrix at the tree level as well as one-loop level are considered, consistent with the tri-bimaximal pattern of neutrino mixing. Light neutrino masses arise at the tree level through a TeV scale seesaw mechanism involving the right-handed neutrinos. Although all the three light neutrinos acquire non-zero masses at the tree-level, we show that the one-loop contributions can be comparable in size under certain conditions.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figure
