Interaction of Dioxovanadium (V) ion with L-alanine at Different Ionic Strengths

The formation constants of species formed in the system H+ + alanine and VO2+ +alanine have been determined in aqueous solution for 1.0<pH<7.0 and at different ionic strengths ranging from 0.1 to 1.0 mol dm-3 NaClO4, using a combination of potentiometric and spectrophotometric techniques.The compositions of the formd complexes and their stability constants were determined by curve fitting method and it was shown that dioxivanadium(V) forms two mononuclear 1:1 and 1:2 species with alanineof type VO2L and VO2L2-.The porotonation constant of the amino group of alanine has been determined using potentiometric techniques and calculated using a computer program wich employ a least-squares method. The dependence of the porotonation of alanine and the stability constants of the species on ionic strength are described by a deby-huckel type equation

Effect of garlic extract on growth and survival rate in Litopenaeus vannami post larvae

The effect of garlic extract on growth and survival rates of one day larvae of Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp was tested for 12 days .Six nutritional treatments each with three replicates were fed to shrimp larvae (average weight 0.0013g) including control treatment (unriched Artemia nauplii) and second to sixth Artemia nauplii enriched with 200, 400, 600, 800 and 1000mg garlic extract per kg, respectively. The one way ANOVA results showed that all treatments were different in terms of average weight and total length of larvae compared to control group. Shrimps being fed by Artesia enriched with 200mg garlic extract per kg food have the best growth, survival rates and length (0.0062mg, 81.6% and 10.6mm). Group 3 with concentration of 400mg garlic extract per kg of feed followed by control group showed better growth and survival rates in shrimp larvae than other treatments but the lowest survival rate evaluated in shrimps fed by Artemia nauplii enriched with 600, 800 and 1000mg garlic extract per kg feed, orderly. Specific growth rates (SGR) for treatment groups 2 and 3 were higher compared to other groups

Highly selective potentiometric determination of Fe(III) ions using Tris-(1,2-diiminocyclohexylmethyl-5-Cl-2-hydroxyl benzaldehyde) based membrane electrode

A novel ion-selective poly(vinyl chloride) membrane sensor for Fe(III) ions based on Tris-(1,2-diiminocyclohexylmethyl-5-Cl-2-hydroxyl benzaldehyde) are reported in this paper. The electrode exhibits a good potentiometric response for Fe(III), response time ≤ 20 s, over a wide concentration range 1.0 × 10-5 to 1.0 × 10-1 M with a slope 19.4 ± 0.5 mV/decade. The potentiometric response is independent on the pH of solution in the range of 1.5-5.0. The proposed electrode can be used for at least two months without any considerable divergence in potentials.It exhibits very good selectivity relative to a wide variety of alkali, alkaline earth, transition and heavy metal ions. The electrode assembly was also used as indicator electrode in the potentiometric titration of Fe(III) with EDTA

Middle Eastern mothers in Sweden, their experiences of the maternal health service and their partner's involvement

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Traditional patterns relating to how to handle pregnancy and birth are often challenged due to migration. The purpose of this study was to describe Middle Eastern mothers' experiences of the maternal health care services in Sweden and the involvement of their male partner.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Thirteen immigrant mothers from the Middle East who had used the maternal health services in Sweden were interviewed using focus group discussions and individual interviews. These were taped, transcribed and analysed according to Content analysis.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The four main categories that developed were:</p> <p>• Access to the professional midwife</p> <p>• Useful counselling</p> <p>• Stable motherhood in transition</p> <p>• Being a family living in a different culture</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>According to the respondents in this study, understanding the woman's native language or her culture was not vital to develop a good relationship with the midwife. Instead the immigrant woman developed trust in the midwife based on the knowledge and the empathy the midwife imparted.</p> <p>Increasing the amount of first trimester antenatal visits could avoid spontaneous visits to the emergency clinic. There was a greater need for involvement and support by the father during the perinatal period, such as caring for older children and carrying out household chores since the mothers' earlier female network was often lost.</p> <p>Clinical implications</p> <p>There is a need to involve immigrant parents in the available parental education in order to prepare them for parenthood in their new country as well as to explore their altered family situation. Collecting immigrant women and their partner's, experiences of maternal health care services offers a possibility to improve the existing care, both in content, access and availability where the timing of visits and content require further evaluation.</p

Synthesis and Biological Activity of a New Schiff Base Ligand Pyridazine Based

The structures of all the newly synthesized compounds have been comfirmed by elemental analysis, IR, 1H-NMR. Anti bacterial effects of compounds (1 and 2) have been studied. Following concentrations of materials were used: a=0.005 g/ml and b=0.01 M. Study was done on two strains of <em>S.aureus</em> and <em>E.coli</em> that experiments were done in Trypticase Soy Broth (TSB) and Nutrien Agar (TSB; Difco Laboratory). It is likely that these synthetic materials exert higher antibacterial effect on gram positive bacteria in comparison with gram negative.</span><strong></strong></p><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> Sudanese refugees in Australia: The impact of acculturation stress

Refugees from Sudan are the fastest growing community in Australia. Australian mental health professionals have to be prepared to offer services to this ethnic group along with the other mainstream and diverse consumers. In order to offer culturally competent services, these mental health professionals are required to be familiar with this emerging community. As such a review was undertaken with two main goals. Firstly, the review aimed to educate Australian mental health professionals about the demographics and culture of Sudan, the traumas encountered as a result of the civil war, factors leading to massive exodus, and the difficulties of the transit and post migration phase. Secondly, the review intended to inform Australian mental health professionals about the possible acculturation stress that is manifested in the form of intergeneration and role conflict and marital difficulties. The review highlights that there are few studies addressing acculturation stress of Sudanese refugees, and even fewer on the impact it has on relationships. Future research directions are discussed
