Novel mechanism of photoinduced reversible phase transitions in molecule-based magnets
A novel microscopic mechanism of bi-directional structural changes is
proposed for the photo-induced magnetic phase transition in Co-Fe Prussian blue
analogues on the basis of ab initio quantum chemical cluster calculations. It
is shown that the local potential energies of various spin states of Co are
sensitive to the number of nearest neighbor Fe vacancies. As a result, the
forward and backward structural changes are most readily initiated by
excitation of different local regions by different photons. This mechanism
suggests an effective strategy to realize photoinduced reversible phase
transitions in a general system consisting of two local components.Comment: 4 pages, LaTex, 3 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. Let
Gluino Decay as a Probe of High Scale Supersymmetry Breaking
A supersymmetric standard model with heavier scalar supersymmetric particles
has many attractive features. If the scalar mass scale is O(10 - 10^4) TeV, the
standard model like Higgs boson with mass around 125 GeV, which is strongly
favored by the LHC experiment, can be realized. However, in this scenario the
scalar particles are too heavy to be produced at the LHC. In addition, if the
scalar mass is much less than O(10^4) TeV, the lifetime of the gluino is too
short to be measured. Therefore, it is hard to probe the scalar particles at a
collider. However, a detailed study of the gluino decay reveals that two body
decay of the gluino carries important information on the scalar scale. In this
paper, we propose a test of this scenario by measuring the decay pattern of the
gluino at the LHC.Comment: 29 pages, 9 figures; version published in JHE
CentroidFold: a web server for RNA secondary structure prediction
The CentroidFold web server (http://www.ncrna.org/centroidfold/) is a web application for RNA secondary structure prediction powered by one of the most accurate prediction engine. The server accepts two kinds of sequence data: a single RNA sequence and a multiple alignment of RNA sequences. It responses with a prediction result shown as a popular base-pair notation and a graph representation. PDF version of the graph representation is also available. For a multiple alignment sequence, the server predicts a common secondary structure. Usage of the server is quite simple. You can paste a single RNA sequence (FASTA or plain sequence text) or a multiple alignment (CLUSTAL-W format) into the textarea then click on the ‘execute CentroidFold’ button. The server quickly responses with a prediction result. The major advantage of this server is that it employs our original CentroidFold software as its prediction engine which scores the best accuracy in our benchmark results. Our web server is freely available with no login requirement
Investigation of quasi-periodic varaiations in hard X-rays of solar flares
The aim of the present paper is to use quasi-periodic oscillations in hard
X-rays (HXRs) of solar flares as a diagnostic tool for investigation of
impulsive electron acceleration. We have selected a number of flares which
showed quasi-periodic oscillations in hard X-rays and their loop-top sources
could be easily recognized in HXR images. We have considered MHD standing waves
to explain the observed HXR oscillations. We interpret these HXR oscillations
as being due to oscillations of magnetic traps within cusp-like magnetic
structures. This is confirmed by a good correlation between periods of the
oscillations and the sizes of the loop-top sources. We argue that a model of
oscillating magnetic traps is adequate to explain the observations. During the
compressions of a trap particles are accelerated, but during its expansions
plasma, coming from chromospheric evaporation, fills the trap, which explains
the large number of electrons being accelerated during a sequence of strong
impulses. The advantage of our model of oscillating magnetic traps is that it
can explain both the impulses of electron acceleration and quasi-periodicity of
their distribution in time.Comment: 21 pages, 11 figures, 3 tables, submitted to Solar Physic
Neutrino Large Mixing in Universal Yukawa Coupling Model with Small Violation
We have analyzed the possibility that the universal Yukawa coupling
(democratic mass matrix) with small violations of Dirac and Majorana neutrinos
can induce the large mixing of neutrinos through the seesaw mechanism. The
possibility can be achieved by the condition that the violation parameters of
Majorana neutrinos are sufficiently smaller than the violation parameters of
Dirac neutrinos. Allowed regions of the violation parameters producing the
observed neutrino mass hierarchy and large neutrino mixing are not so
restricted at present in contrast to the violation parameters for quark sector.Comment: 14 pages, 4figure
Aspects of Non-minimal Gauge Mediation
A large class of non-minimal gauge mediation models, such as (semi-)direct
gauge mediation, predict a hierarchy between the masses of the supersymmetric
standard model gauginos and those of scalar particles. We perform a
comprehensive study of these non-minimal gauge mediation models, including mass
calculations in semi-direct gauge mediation, to illustrate these features, and
discuss the phenomenology of the models. We point out that the cosmological
gravitino problem places stringent constraints on mass splittings, when the
Bino is the NLSP. However, the GUT relation of the gaugino masses is broken
unlike the case of minimal gauge mediation, and an NLSP other than the Bino
(especially the gluino NLSP) becomes possible, relaxing the cosmological
constraints. We also discuss the collider signals of the models.Comment: 56 pages, 8 figures; v2:minor corrections, references added; v3:minor

Three-Dimensional Multiband d-p Model of Superconductivity in Spin-Chain Ladder Cuprate
We study the superconductivity in the three-dimensional multiband d-p model,
in which a CuO-ladder layer and a CuO-chain layer are alternately
stacked, as a model of the superconducting spin-chain ladder cuprate.
-Wave-like triplet superconductivity is found to be the most stable, and
its dependence on interlayer coupling can explain the superconducting
transition temperature dependence on pressure in real superconducting
spin-chain ladder cuprates. The superconductivity may be enhanced if hole
transfer from the chain layer to the ladder layer can be promoted beyond the
typical transfer rate.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figure
Software.ncrna.org: web servers for analyses of RNA sequences
We present web servers for analysis of non-coding RNA sequences on the basis of their secondary structures. Software tools for structural multiple sequence alignments, structural pairwise sequence alignments and structural motif findings are available from the integrated web server and the individual stand-alone web servers. The servers are located at http://software.ncrna.org, along with the information for the evaluation and downloading. This website is freely available to all users and there is no login requirement
