Development of a Serum Biomarker Assay That Differentiates Tumor-Associated MUC5AC (NPC-1C ANTIGEN) from Normal MUC5AC
A serum ELISA using a monoclonal antibody that detects a MUC5AC-related antigen (NPC-1C antigen) expressed by pancreatic and colorectal cancer was developed. The NPC-1C antibody reacts with specific epitopes expressed by tumor-associated MUC5AC that does not appear on MUC5AC from normal tissues. Based on observations of a highly specific antibody, we tested the ELISA to differentiate serum from healthy blood donors compared to serum from patients with colorectal or pancreatic cancer. Additionally, patient tumor tissue was stained to examine the expression pattern of MUC5AC-related antigen in pancreatic and colorectal cancers. The results indicate the NPC-1C antibody ELISA distinguished serum of cancer patients from normal donors with very good sensitivity and specificity. Most patient's tumor biopsy exhibited NPC-1C antibody reactivity, indicating that tumor-associated MUC5AC antigen from tumor is shed into blood, where it can be detected by the NPC-1C antibody ELISA. This serum test provides a new tool to aid in the diagnosis of these cancers and immune monitoring of cancer treatment regimens
GeoLinter: A Linting Framework for Choropleth Maps
Visualization linting is a proven effective tool in assisting users to follow
established visualization guidelines. Despite its success, visualization
linting for choropleth maps, one of the most popular visualizations on the
internet, has yet to be investigated. In this paper, we present GeoLinter, a
linting framework for choropleth maps that assists in creating accurate and
robust maps. Based on a set of design guidelines and metrics drawing upon a
collection of best practices from the cartographic literature, GeoLinter
detects potentially suboptimal design decisions and provides further
recommendations on design improvement with explanations at each step of the
design process. We perform a validation study to evaluate the proposed
framework's functionality with respect to identifying and fixing errors and
apply its results to improve the robustness of GeoLinter. Finally, we
demonstrate the effectiveness of the GeoLinter - validated through empirical
studies - by applying it to a series of case studies using real-world datasets.Comment: to appear in IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphic

Around the early 19th century, Muslims in Yogyakarta have not really understood what Islam was. This underlying KH. Ahmad Dahlan to do updates in social and educational fields. This research is qualitative research. Data analysis technique is using the Critical Discourse Analysis. The results of research: KH. Ahmad Dahlan's thought in the social field is inseparable from one of factors that affect the intellect in the region of the Middle East. Real motion made Ahmad Dahlan, namely: establishing a social organization Muhammadiyah, always invites Muslims perform prayers at the Eidmusalla, changing the direction of the Qibla, as well as care for orphans. KH. Ahmad Dahlan's thought in the field of education is inseparable from all outside influence, moved to build Islamic school. Collaboration educational system between the secular education system and education teach religion only. So formed religious school and common knowledge taught and the method of education the pupils asked.Sekitar awal abad ke 19 muslim di Yogyakarta belum benar-benar memahami apa itu Islam. Hal inilah yang mendasari KH. Ahmad Dahlan untuk melakukan pembaruan dalam bidang sosial dan pendidikan. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Teknik analisis data menggunakan Critical Analysis Discourse. Hasil penelitian sebagai berikut: Pemikiran KH. Ahmad Dahlan dalam bidang sosial dipengaruhi oleh kaum intelek di wilayah Timur Tengah. Gerak nyata yang dilakukan KH. Ahmad Dahlan yaitu: mendirikan organisasi sosial Muhammadiyah, senantiasa mengajak umat muslim melakukan sholat ied di tanah lapang, mengubah arah kiblat, serta menyayangi anak yatim. Pemikiran KH. Ahmad Dahlan dalam bidang pendidikan tidak terlepas pula dari pengaruh luar, Ahmad Dahlan tergerak untuk membangun sekolah Islam. Sistem pendidikan mengkolaborasikan antara sistem pendidikan sekuler dan pendidikan yang hanya mengajarkan agama saja. Sehingga terbentuklah sekolah agama dan pengetahuan umum pun tetap diajarkan menggunakan metode murid bertanya
PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN MOLASES TERHADAP KUALITAS FISIK DAN KIMIA SILASE KULIT PISANG SEPATU (Mussa paradisiaca formatypica)
EFFECT OF MOLASSES ADDITION ON PHYSICO-CHEMICAL QUALITY OF BANANA PEEL (mussa paradisiaca formatypica) SILAGE. Molasses had been used previously in animal feeds. The present study was conducted to determine physical and chemical composition as affected by the addition of molasses in ensiling process of banana peels. The study was conducted for four weeks at Department of Animal and feed Science Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, University of Sam Ratulangi, Manado. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) arranged by 4x3 factorial with three replications was employed for analysis of varians. The two factors consisted of : A factors (level of molasses addition) were: A0=0%; A1=2%; A2=4%; and A3=6%; and B factors (incubation time) were : B1 = 14 days ; B2 = 21 days; and B3 = 28 days. Tukey’s test was used to analysis treatment differents. Variables measured were : smell, texture, color protein(%) and gross energy (Kcal/kg). The result show that the addition of molasses in ensiling process of banana peels was positively (P0.05) of banana peels silage. The addition of molasses up to 6% with incubation time of 28 days gave an intermediate texture and brown color and these could be a good indication of a good or success ensiling process. The addition of molasses up to 6% with an incubation time of 21 days produced banana peels silage with protein content of 6,77% and addition of molasses up to 4% with incubation time 28 days gave gross energy of 4.390 kcal/kg. It can be concluded that addition of molasses up to 6% with incubation time 21 days produced good quality (physically and Chemically) of banana peels silage. Laju Pertumbuhan Populasi Brachionus Plicatilis O. F. Muller Dengan Pemberian Kotoran Ayam Kampung (Gallus Varius L.) Dan Ayam Broiler (Gallus Demostica L.) Pada Media Kombinasi Pupuk Urea Dan Tsp
The relationship between growth rate of Brachionus plicatilis O. F. Muller population and feeding that contain addition of local chicken manure (Gallus varius L.) and broiler chicken's (Gallus domestica L.) in urea and triple superphosphat (TSP) was conducted on September 2012 in Animal Systematic Laboratory, Biology Department, Mathematics and Sains Faculty, Sumatera Utara University. This research used complete randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments chicken manure, that is M1 (300 mg/2 L local), M2 (400 mg/2 L local), M3 (300 mg/2 L broiler) and M4 (400/2 L broiler), with 6 times repeated and 8 times observation during 16 days. The result showed that the growth rate of B. plicatilis the highest on medium M4 is 8.492 indx2x10-3xday-1 and have the lowest on the medium M1 is 8.386 indx2x10-3xday-1. These showed that using broiler chicken's manure is better than local chicken's manure
