    Bromidobis(N,N′-diphenyl­thio­urea-κS)copper(I) monohydrate

    In the title compound, [CuBr(C13H12N2S)2]·H2O, the CuI atom adopts a slightly distorted trigonal-planar coordination arising from two S atoms of two diphenyl­thio­urea ligands and a bromide ion. There are two intra­molecular N—H⋯Br hydrogen bonds completing twisted six-membered rings with R(6) motifs. The dihedral angles between the aromatic rings in the ligands are 62.11 (13) and 85.73 (13)°. In the crystal, components are linked by N—H⋯O, O—H⋯S and O—H⋯π inter­actions. There also exist π–π inter­actions with a distance of 3.876 (2) Å between the centroids of benzene rings of two different ligands.     E-Device Purchase And Disposal Behaviours in the UAE: An Exploratory Study

    The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is one of the high-income countries in the Middle Eastern region and is vying for sustainable development in every sector. One of the UAE sustainable development goals is to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns; hence, the emphasis is on circular economy. UAE is one of largest consumers of e-devices, and their proper disposal is of paramount importance. E-waste disposal awareness leads to better disposal behaviors. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to understand the e-device purchase and disposal behaviour among university communities in the UAE. A survey was conducted among the students and staff members of a federally funded university in the UAE, namely Zayed University, and quantitative methodology was adopted to analyze the collected data. The study found that 47.95% of respondents purchased mobile phones, and 65% of the respondents purchased 1-3 electronic devices every year. Through chi-square test, gender of the respondents was found to be related with e-device ownership. Through the analysis of variance (ANOVA), age and field of specialization were found to affect the knowledge about e-waste. Older and the respondents with science specialization were more aware about e-waste. Most of the respondents disposed e-devices, such as batteries, earphones/headphones, and electronic toys, along with the household trash. A very small percentage of respondents disposed e-devices such as laptops, phones, and tablets with the household trash. Mostly, these were either repaired, donated, or sold to second-hand users. Many respondents were neither aware of the government initiatives on e-waste collection nor participated in government-sponsored e-waste recycling. The study further identified that 67% of the respondents were aware of the toxicity of e-waste, and 61% of the respondents were keen to join e-waste recycling drives at university. The findings of the study imply that the policy makers need to incentivize e-waste-disposal systems and develop targeted awareness approaches to enhance e-waste disposal in the UAE

    Bioequivalence Study of Deferiprone In Healthy Pakistani Volunteers

    The study was conducted to evaluate the bioequivalence of deferiprone 500 mg with innovator drug in Pakistani men. Twenty four healthy volunteers were enrolled in this study. Each volunteer take two tablets of generic and innovator deferiprone with two-week washout period. Blood samples were collected at predetermined time intervals. Plasma deferiprone levels were analyzed using validated HPLC method. Pharmacokinetic parameters computed non-compartmentally after logarithmic transformation of data. The mean relative bioavailability was 104 %. The mean Cmax , AUC0–t , AUC0–∞ for generic drug were 14.41, 40.49, and 42.84 μg.h/mL and for innovator were 12.68, 38.63, and 40.75 μg.h/mL, respectively. Mean ratio (generic/innovator) of AUC0–t at 90 % CI was 0.9737-1.1150 and for Cmax was 0.99876- 1.2425. Hence, the mean ratio of 90 % confidence interval of AUC0–t and Cmax lie within the acceptable limit of (0.80-1.25) for bioequivalence.     Investigation of factors affecting COVID-19 vaccine acceptance among communities of universities in the United Arab Emirates.

    The COVID-19 pandemic affected the lives of people living across the world and the development of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 is considered to be one of the most promising solutions to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. In several countries, we are witnessing hesitancy toward COVID-19 vaccines, which is a complex phenomenon influenced by a variety of factors. A cross-sectional study was performed to comprehensively investigate the impact of factors like demography, COVID-19 pandemic-induced behavior, and vaccine attitude on COVID-19 vaccine acceptance (VA) among communities of five different universities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). To investigate the effect of demography and COVID-19 pandemic-induced behavioral factors, Analysis of Variance was perfomed. The effect of COVID-19 vaccine attitudes on COVID-19 VA was examined through partial least squares-structural equations modeling. The results of the study showed no difference among the population in accepting COVID-19 vaccines due to their demographic factors. The effect of pandemic-induced behavioral factors on COVID-19 VA suggested that the people of UAE accepted COVID-19 vaccines irrespective of the movement and travel restrictions imposed due to the pandemic. The results on the effect of vaccine attitudes on COVID-19 VA showed that vaccine benefit attitudes, safety concerns, and trust in health-care professionals (TrHP) were found to be significant factors in VA. Furthermore, TrHP was found to reduce the negative effect of safety concerns related to COVID-19 VA. The findings broadly highlight that COVID-19 VA in the UAE was not hampered by demographic factors and the pandemic-induced behavioral constraints. The study also showed that people with co-morbidities had lower level of COVID-19 VA than people with no co-morbidities. To improve COVID-19 VA, the perceived benefits with COVID-19 vaccine and TrHP must be enhanced and simultaneously safety concerns of the vaccines need to be addressed

    Micro Finance is used as one of the tools for poverty alleviation.  Micro Financial Institutions provide small loans to poor people, farmers and small enterprises. It is the best solution of removing poverty. This research study provides an overview on Micro finance and poverty alleviation at D.I.Khan district KPK Pakistan.This study is based on both quantitative and qualitative methodologies in order to find out the feasible solution of thisresearch question:what are improvements achieved in the reduction of poverty in the fields of income, employment, education, communication, health care, children’s education and housing etc? Stratified random sampling techniques were used to get a total of 96 respondents. Data were collected through close ended questionnaires, semi structured interviews, observations and documentary reviews. Data analysis was based on descriptive statistics using various statistical tools like regression, correlation, t- test and ANNOVA with the help of tables. The Study findings show thatprovision of Micro-finance is very useful in poverty reduction. The result of the study also show that microfinance helps in poverty alleviation of different categories of poor people and has the positive significant impact on the dependent variable i.e. Poverty Reduction.     R7-binding protein targets the G protein β5/R7-regulator of G protein signaling complex to lipid rafts in neuronal cells and brain

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Heterotrimeric guanine nucleotide-binding regulatory proteins (G proteins), composed of Gα, Gβ, and Gγ subunits, are positioned at the inner face of the plasma membrane and relay signals from activated G protein-coupled cell surface receptors to various signaling pathways. Gβ5 is the most structurally divergent Gβ isoform and forms tight heterodimers with regulator of G protein signalling (RGS) proteins of the R7 subfamily (R7-RGS). The subcellular localization of Gβ 5/R7-RGS protein complexes is regulated by the palmitoylation status of the associated R7-binding protein (R7BP), a recently discovered SNARE-like protein. We investigate here whether R7BP controls the targeting of Gβ5/R7-RGS complexes to lipid rafts, cholesterol-rich membrane microdomains where conventional heterotrimeric G proteins and some effector proteins are concentrated in neurons and brain.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We show that endogenous Gβ5/R7-RGS/R7BP protein complexes are present in native neuron-like PC12 cells and that a fraction is targeted to low-density, detergent-resistant membrane lipid rafts. The buoyant density of endogenous raft-associated Gβ5/R7-RGS protein complexes in PC12 cells was similar to that of lipid rafts containing the palmitoylated marker proteins PSD-95 and LAT, but distinct from that of the membrane microdomain where flotillin was localized. Overexpression of wild-type R7BP, but not its palmitoylation-deficient mutant, greatly enriched the fraction of endogenous Gβ5/R7-RGS protein complexes in the lipid rafts. In HEK-293 cells the palmitoylation status of R7BP also regulated the lipid raft targeting of co-expressed Gβ5/R7-RGS/R7BP proteins. A fraction of endogenous Gβ5/R7-RGS/R7BP complexes was also present in lipid rafts in mouse brain.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>A fraction of Gβ5/R7-RGS/R7BP protein complexes is targeted to low-density, detergent-resistant membrane lipid rafts in PC12 cells and brain. In cultured cells, the palmitoylation status of R7BP regulated the lipid raft targeting of endogenous or co-expressed Gβ5/R7-RGS proteins. Taken together with recent evidence that the kinetic effects of the Gβ5 complex on GPCR signaling are greatly enhanced by R7BP palmitoylation through a membrane-anchoring mechanism, our data suggest the targeting of the Gβ5/R7-RGS/R7BP complex to lipid rafts in neurons and brain, where G proteins and their effectors are concentrated, may be central to the G protein regulatory function of the complex.</p

    TARJAMAT: Evaluation of Bard and ChatGPT on Machine Translation of Ten Arabic Varieties

    Despite the purported multilingual proficiency of instruction-finetuned large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT and Bard, the linguistic inclusivity of these models remains insufficiently explored. Considering this constraint, we present a thorough assessment of Bard and ChatGPT (encompassing both GPT-3.5 and GPT-4) regarding their machine translation proficiencies across ten varieties of Arabic. Our evaluation covers diverse Arabic varieties such as Classical Arabic (CA), Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), and several country-level dialectal variants. Our analysis indicates that LLMs may encounter challenges with dialects for which minimal public datasets exist, but on average are better translators of dialects than existing commercial systems. On CA and MSA, instruction-tuned LLMs, however, trail behind commercial systems such as Google Translate. Finally, we undertake a human-centric study to scrutinize the efficacy of the relatively recent model, Bard, in following human instructions during translation tasks. Our analysis reveals a circumscribed capability of Bard in aligning with human instructions in translation contexts. Collectively, our findings underscore that prevailing LLMs remain far from inclusive, with only limited ability to cater for the linguistic and cultural intricacies of diverse communities.Comment: ArabicNLP 202
