10-(2-Pyridyloxy)phenanthren-9-ol
In the title compound, C19H13NO2, the pyridyl ring makes a dihedral angle of 87.04 (6)° with the plane of the phenanthrene ring system. In the crystal, molecules are linked through weak intermolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds and C—H⋯π interactions
Supply response of potato in Bangladesh: a vector correction approach
An attempt has been made in this study to examine the supply response of potato in Bangladesh by using the vector error correction approach. The short-run price elasticity was 0.45 while the long run elasticity was 0.62. Price policies are effective in obtaining the desired level of output for potato. If intervention in the market is of necessity, then it must be implemented during the harvest season for altering price expectations. Also emphases should be given to increase potato export and establishing export oriented potato processing industries
Computational models for the nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete plates
A finite element computational model for the nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete solid, stiffened and cellular plates is briefly outlined. Typically, Mindlin elements are used to model the plates whereas eccentric Timoshenko elements are adopted to represent the beams. The layering technique, common in the analysis of reinforced concrete flexural systems, is incorporated in the model. The proposed model provides an inexpensive and reasonably accurate approach which can be extended for use with voided plates
Kac-Moody Symmetries of Ten-dimensional Non-maximal Supergravity Theories
A description of the bosonic sector of ten-dimensional N=1 supergravity as a
non-linear realisation is given. We show that if a suitable extension of this
theory were invariant under a Kac-Moody algebra, then this algebra would have
to contain a rank eleven Kac-Moody algebra, that can be identified to be a
particular real form of very-extended D_8. We also describe the extension of
N=1 supergravity coupled to an abelian vector gauge field as a non-linear
realisation, and find the Kac-Moody algebra governing the symmetries of this
theory to be very-extended B_8. Finally, we discuss the related points for the
N=1 supergravity coupled to an arbitrary number of abelian vector gauge fields
Isolation of enterotoxigenic, hemolytic, and antibiotic-resistant Aeromonas hydrophila strains from infected fish in Bangladesh
Strains of Aeromonas hydrophila isolated from skin infections of common freshwater fish in Bangladesh were tested for enterotoxin production, hemolysin production, and any correlation between these two activities. We also tested the resistance patterns of A. hydrophila to different drugs, especially in relation to ampicillin. The A. hydrophila strains produced an enterotoxin that was related to their beta-hemolytic activities. Production of beta-hemolysin may thus be an indicator of enterotoxicity. As 50% of the strains of A. hydrophila were found to be susceptible to 12.5 µg of ampicillin per ml, media containing this antibiotic may not be suitable for their isolation
Persistence of magnons in a site-diluted dimerized frustrated antiferromagnet
We present inelastic neutron scattering and thermodynamic measurements
characterizing the magnetic excitations in a disordered non-magnetic
substituted spin-liquid antiferromagnet. The parent compound Ba3Mn2O8 is a
dimerized, quasi-two-dimensional geometrically frustrated quantum disordered
antiferromagnet. We substitute this compound with non-magnetic vanadium for the
S = 1 manganese atoms, Ba3(Mn1-xVx)2O8, and find that the singlet-triplet
excitations which dominate the spectrum of the parent compound persist for the
full range of substitution examined, x = 0.02 to 0.3. We also observe
additional low-energy magnetic fluctuations which are enhanced at the greatest
substitution values. These excitations may be a precursor to a low-temperature
random singlet phase which may exist in Ba3(Mn1-xVx)2O8Comment: 30 pages, 9 figure
