Spectral Analysis of Moderately Charged Rare-Gas Atoms

    Get PDF
This article presents a review concerning the spectral analysis of several ions of neon, argon, krypton and xenon, with impact on laser studies and astrophysics that were mainly carried out in our collaborative groups between Argentina and Brazil during many years. The spectra were recorded from the vacuum ultraviolet to infrared regions using pulsed discharges. Semi-empirical approaches with relativistic Hartree鈥揊ock and Dirac-Fock calculations were also included in these investigations. The spectral analysis produced new classified lines and energy levels. Lifetimes and oscillator strengths were also calculated

Revised and Extended Analysis of Five Times Ionized Argon (Ar VI)

The spectrum of five times ionized argon, (Ar VI), has been observed in the 280-2100 脜 wavelength range. Eighty-seven lines have been identified as transitions between levels of the latex3s23platex 3s^{2}3p, latex3s3p2latex 3s3p^{2}, latex3s23dlatex 3s^{2}3d, latex3p2latex 3p^{2}, latex3s3p3dlatex 3s3p3d, latex3s24slatex 3s^{2}4s, latex3s24dlatex 3s^{2}4d and latex3s3p4slatex 3s3p4s configurations. For 33 of the lines the classification is new. Forty-one energy level values belonging to these configurations were analyzed and we propose 9 new energy level values for levels corresponding to odd parity configurations. The configurations are interpreted by fitting the theoretical energy expressions to the observed energy levels using least- squares techniques. The parameter values are compared with results from Hartree-Fock calculations

Excitation mechanisms and characterization of a multi-ionic xenon laser

    Get PDF
The emission characteristics of an ultraviolet-visible pulsed multi-ionic xenon laser were studied through time-resolved spectroscopy and the results were interpreted using a collisional-radiative theoretical model. This analysis includes more than 20 laser lines belonging to several ionic species (Xe III-VIII). Depending on the experimental conditions, different temporal distributions of the laser lines and their corresponding spontaneous emissions can be observed. In particular, laser emission presents temporal oscillations near threshold. Pumping processes for the laser transitions have been analyzed by using this model. Relativistic Hartree-Fock calculations of laser level lifetimes and radiative transition probabilities were performed. Experimental laser gain for several transitions were obtained and compared with the theoretical values derived from the calculations

New spectroscopic data for atomic tungsten XIV

    Get PDF
The thirteen times ionized tungsten is isoelectronic with PmI. Wavelengths and transition probabilities for the 5s-5p and 5p-5d transitions of WXIV, identifying the ground state as 4f13 5s2 2F7/2 were calculated. Both, a relativistic Hartree Fock approach, including core-polarization effects, and a purely relativistic multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock method were used for the calculations. Particularly, 5s-5p transitions were compared with experimental results obtained with VUV electron beam ion trap (EBIT) spectroscopy.Facultad de Ciencias Exacta
