Background: Menstruation is a normal biological process experienced by millions of women around the world each month. Good menstrual hygiene practices can prevent infections among women. During menstruation women are using different sanitary products like reusable cloth pads, commercial sanitary pads, tampons, pads made from wool, reusable tampons, and menstrual cups. The menstrual cup was developed as an alternative of sanitary napkins and eco-friendly sanitary product but due to lack of awareness in India it’s uses are very limited. Methods: Quasi experimental one group pre-test and post-test research design was used in this research study. A total 201 nursing students of were selected by using purposive sampling technique. After the pretest structured teaching programme regarding knowledge of menstrual cap uses was implemented among nursing students and on 10th day of STP post-test was done by using the same tools. Results: During the pre-test researcher found that majority (81.59%) of nursing students had inadequate knowledge regarding menstrual cups uses. The mean knowledge score was significantly (p<0.05) increases from pre-test (7±3.06) to post-test (15±2.36) where mean difference was 8. Conclusions: The study results highlighted that the STP was highly effective in increase the knowledge among nursing students. Educational intervention programs must give importance in Professional Institutions, which will motivate female’s students to start practice of menstrual cups during menstruation. This is eco-friendly initiative

    SMART TRAFFIC CONTROL BARRICADE SYSTEM

    Get PDF
At present traffic management is a big challenge and plays a vital role in moving the vehicles from one corner of the city to the other. This system not only controls the traffic signals but also it reduces violating traffic rules and accidents. Here when the red light signal is ON there will be a servomotor which pops up barricade from ground level. It applies one special condition in the road by placing a barricade before the zebra crossing which will stop the vehicles when the signal red light is ON. The barricade will automatically pops up on the vehicle stopping mark, when the signal leaves it pops down to the ground. For ambulance, it is having a special feature that there will be an RFID tag which can sense about its arrival. For this reason the RFID reader is fixed to road. During the red signal, when the ambulance needs to pass at that time RFID reads the tag and changes red light to green light in traffic signal through GSM where RFID reader card number is stored in control system. So the barricade will pop down to ground and the other three ways are stopped with red signal light so that the ambulance can easily pass through the way by these one can save someone's life. This project work is carried out by using IOT technology

Objective: To investigate different phytochemical contents and screening of antioxidant activity of sequentially extracted Exacum bicolor leaf with different solvents. Methods: Leaf samples of E. bicolor were dried and subjected to sequential (hexane>chloroform>ethyl acetate>methanol>water) extraction using soxhlet apparatus. Total phenol contents (TPC) were estimated using Folin-ciocalteau method, flavonoids by aluminium chloride method, tannins by Folin-Denis reagent and alkaloids using bromocresol blue. In vitro antioxidant activities were estimated by using 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azinobis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid ABTS·+and Nitric oxide (NO) scavenging assay. Results: The total phenol, tannin and alkaloid contents in methanol extract were found to be 23.4±0.09 mg GAE/g, 23±0.57 mg TAE/g and 47.33±1.20 mg AE/g respectively. Hexane extract exhibited high flavonoid content (27.6±0.88 mg QE/g). Methanolic extracts exhibited dose dependent antioxidant activity against DPPH, ABTS·+and NO Scavenging methods; low IC50 value (14.84 µg/ml) was observed in DPPH scavenging activity. Findings showed positive and significant (P ≤ 0.05) correlation between TPC/DPPH (R2= 0.98).Conclusions: The methanol extract showed higher antioxidative activity compared to other extracts. Positive correlation was obtained between TPC and DPPH activity signifying that the phenolic content may be responsible for the antioxidant activity of the plant. Further bioassay-guided purification of the bioactive compound is necessary. To the best of our knowledge, antioxidant activity and its correlation with TPC, is reported for the first time in E. bicolor.Â

Potential anti-seizure activity of atorvastatin in rat models of seizure

Background: Atorvastatin belongs to the class of Hypolipidemic statins. Increasing evidence indicates that statins are neuroprotective in several conditions, including stroke, cerebral ischemia and traumatic brain injury. However, only scanty and controversial reports are available on anticonvulsant action of statins. The present study therefore aims at exploring the influence of atorvastatin on seizures as compared to standard anticonvulsants phenytoin and sodium valproate in Wistar rats. Methods: Rats were divided into 8 groups (n=6), each treated intraperitoneally (i.p) with atorvastatin, phenytoin or sodium valproate in their therapeutic equivalent doses. Their effects were evaluated on seizures induced by maximum electroshock seizure (MES) and pentylenetetrazole (PTZ). Hind limb extension (HLE) in MES model, number of seizures, duration of seizure, number of myoclonic jerks and time for onset as well as recovery from seizures in PTZ model were monitored. Statistical analysis was done using Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA and Mann-Whitney U test for significance. Results: Atorvastatin failed to protect rats against HLE in MES seizure model. However, atorvastatin significantly prolonged seizure onset time (p<0.0547), decreased seizure number (p<0.0082), seizure duration (p<0.0547) and recovery time (p<0.0040) in PTZ model indicating its potential antiepileptic activity in PTZ model. Conclusions: Atorvastatin exhibited protection against seizures only in PTZ seizure model. Hence, it could possess anti absence seizure activity. This needs to be established with further systematic animal and clinical studies

Considering Two Sides of One Review Using Stanford NLP Framework

Sentiment analysis is a type of natural language processing for tracking the mood of the public about a particular product or a topic and is useful in several ways. Polarity shift is the most classical task which aims at classifying the reviews either positive or negative. But in many cases, in addition to the positive and negative reviews, there still many neutral reviews exist. However, the performance sometimes limited due to the fundamental deficiencies in handling the polarity shift problem. We propose an Improvised Dual Sentiment Analysis (IDSA) model to address this problem for sentiment classification. We first propose a novel data expansion technique by creating sentiment-reversed review for each training and test review. We develop a corpus based method to construct a pseudo-antonym dictionary. It removes DSA’s dependency on an external antonym dictionary for review reversion. We conduct a range of experiments and the results demonstrates the effectiveness of DSA in addressing the polarity shift in sentiment classification.

Objectives: Elizabethkingia meningoseptica has been known to infect the immunocompromised, preterm children, those exposed to antibiotics in critical care units, and those with comorbidities. Multidrug resistance seen in E. meningoseptica makes it daunting to choose the right antimicrobial agents for treating infections caused by this organism. The present study was undertaken to establish the incidence of E. meningoseptica infections, to investigate the clinical features and risk factors associated with these infections, and to study the antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of E. meningoseptica isolates over 2 years. Methods: Medical records of the patient positive for E. meningoseptica from January 2015 to December 2016 were studied retrospectively. The demographic and clinical data of the patients and the antibiotic sensitivity patterns were collected and analyzed. Results: E. meningoseptica was isolated from 13 patients. The mean age was 71.09 years with males being more frequently infected (81.8%). Maximum isolates were from blood (38.5%) with sepsis being the final diagnosis in 53.8% of the patients, followed by respiratory tract infection (46.1%). Two pediatric patients presented with both sepsis and meningitis. Nine patients (69.2%) recovered, and death occurred in four patients (30.8%). Susceptibility testing revealed 100% in vitro resistance to most of the antibiotics such as amikacin, aztreonam, cefepime, ceftazidime, colistin, gentamicin, meropenem, and polymyxin B which are used to treat Gram-negative bacterial infections. The isolates were most susceptible to minocycline and piperacillin. Conclusion: E. meningoseptica is an emerging pathogen and is being isolated more frequently now. An expeditious and prompt institution of appropriate therapy is essential because of its inherent resistance to many antimicrobial agents commonly used to treat infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria

Cloud computing is a computing technology or information technology architecture used by organization or individuals. It launches data storage and interactive paradigm with some advantages like on-demand self-services, ubiquitous network access. Due to popularity of cloud services, security and privacy becomes major issue. There is the issue of legitimate responsibility for information (If a client stores some information in the cloud, can the cloud supplier benefit from it?). Numerous Terms of Service assentions are quiet on the topic of proprietorship. Physical control of the PC hardware (private cloud) is more secure than having the gear off site and under another person's control (open cloud). This conveys awesome motivation to open distributed computing administration suppliers to organize building and keeping up solid administration of secure administration. This paper addresses design of proposed system
