    Exotic Haldane Superfluid Phase of Soft-Core Bosons in Optical Lattices

    We propose to realize an exotic Haldane superfluid (HSF) phase in an extended Bose-Hubbard model on the two-leg ladder (i.e., a two-species mixture of interacting bosons). The proposal is confirmed by means of large-scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations, with a significant part of the ground-state phase diagram being revealed. Most remarkably, the newly discovered HSF phase features both superfluidity and the non-local topological Haldane order. The effects induced by varying the number of legs are furthermore explored.     A graph is called a pseudo-core if every endomorphism is either an automorphism or a colouring. In this paper, we show that every Grassmann graph Jq(n,m)J_q(n,m) is a pseudo-core. Moreover, the Grassmann graph Jq(n,m)J_q(n,m) is a core whenever mm and nm+1n-m+1 are not relatively prime, and Jq(2pk2,pk1)J_q(2pk-2, pk-1) is a core whenever p,k2p,k\geq 2.Comment: 8 page

    Exploiting Sentence Embedding for Medical Question Answering

    Despite the great success of word embedding, sentence embedding remains a not-well-solved problem. In this paper, we present a supervised learning framework to exploit sentence embedding for the medical question answering task. The learning framework consists of two main parts: 1) a sentence embedding producing module, and 2) a scoring module. The former is developed with contextual self-attention and multi-scale techniques to encode a sentence into an embedding tensor. This module is shortly called Contextual self-Attention Multi-scale Sentence Embedding (CAMSE). The latter employs two scoring strategies: Semantic Matching Scoring (SMS) and Semantic Association Scoring (SAS). SMS measures similarity while SAS captures association between sentence pairs: a medical question concatenated with a candidate choice, and a piece of corresponding supportive evidence. The proposed framework is examined by two Medical Question Answering(MedicalQA) datasets which are collected from real-world applications: medical exam and clinical diagnosis based on electronic medical records (EMR). The comparison results show that our proposed framework achieved significant improvements compared to competitive baseline approaches. Additionally, a series of controlled experiments are also conducted to illustrate that the multi-scale strategy and the contextual self-attention layer play important roles for producing effective sentence embedding, and the two kinds of scoring strategies are highly complementary to each other for question answering problems.Comment: 8 page

    Flux-lattice melting in LaO1x_{1-x}Fx_{x}FeAs: first-principles prediction

    We report the theoretical study of the flux-lattice melting in the novel iron-based superconductor LaO0.9F0.1FeAsLaO_{0.9}F_{0.1}FeAs and LaO0.925F0.075FeAsLaO_{0.925}F_{0.075}FeAs. Using the Hypernetted-Chain closure and an efficient algorithm, we calculate the two-dimensional one-component plasma pair distribution functions, static structure factors and direct correlation functions at various temperatures. The Hansen-Verlet freezing criterion is shown to be valid for vortex-liquid freezing in type-II superconductors. Flux-lattice meting lines for LaO0.9F0.1FeAsLaO_{0.9}F_{0.1}FeAs and LaO0.925F0.075FeAsLaO_{0.925}F_{0.075}FeAs are predicted through the combination of the density functional theory and the mean-field substrate approach.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, to appear in Phys.     Multi-group frequency hopping OFDMA based on statistical multiplexing

    In this paper, the multi-group frequency hopping OFDMA (MG-FH OFDMA) based on the statistical multiplexing is proposed for the downlink cellular system. Compared with the existed random frequency hopping OFDMA (RFH-OFDMA) system utilizing the statistical multiplexing, the proposed MG-FH OFDMA invokes the deterministic hopping pattern to reduce the number of subcarrier collisions. By dividing all users into different groups, the subcarriers are utilized sufficiently. Latin Square hopping pattern and user index updating scheme are applied to randomize the subcarrier collisions among users. The user capacity, defined as the maximum number of users served with a basic data-rate in a cell, is calculated with the consideration of intra-cell capacity and the other cell interference (OCI). Results show that the proposed MG-FH OFDMA achieves higher user capacity than that of the RFH-OFDMA

    Approximate minimum BER power allocation for MIMO-THP system

    This paper proposes a transmit power allocation (TPA) scheme based on multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Tomlinson-Harashima precoding (THP) structure, where a TPA matrix is introduced to the conventional MIMO-THP. We analyze the influence of the introduced TPA matrix on the performance of MIMO-THP. The proposed TPA scheme invokes the minimum average uncoded bit-error rate (BER) criterion subjected to a sum-power constraint. During the derivation, we consider the effects of precoding loss factor on the TPA scheme and obtain a closed-form expression of the TPA. Compared to existing TPA methods for MIMO-THP systems, the proposed scheme reduces processing complexity and improves the BER performance
