    Hybrid mesons from anisotropic lattice QCD with the clover and improved gauge actions

    Full text link
    We study hybrid mesons from the clover and improved gauge actions at β=2.6\beta=2.6 on the anisotropic 123×3612^3\times36 lattice using our PC cluster. We estimate the mass of 1+1^{-+} light quark hybrid as well as the mass of the charmonium hybrid. The improvement of both quark and gluonic actions, first applied to the hybrid mesons, is shown to be more efficient in reducing the lattice spacing and finite volume errors.Comment: Lattice2002 (spectrum

    Exotic mesons from quantum chromodynamics with improved gluon and quark actions on the anisotropic lattice

    Full text link
    Hybrid (exotic) mesons, which are important predictions of quantum chromodynamics (QCD), are states of quarks and anti-quarks bound by excited gluons. First principle lattice study of such states would help us understand the role of ``dynamical'' color in low energy QCD and provide valuable information for experimental search for these new particles. In this paper, we apply both improved gluon and quark actions to the hybrid mesons, which might be much more efficient than the previous works in reducing lattice spacing error and finite volume effect. Quenched simulations were done at β=2.6\beta=2.6 and on a ξ=3\xi=3 anisotropic 123×3612^3\times36 lattice using our PC cluster. We obtain 2013±26±712013 \pm 26 \pm 71 MeV for the mass of the 1+1^{-+} hybrid meson qˉqg{\bar q}qg in the light quark sector, and 4369±37±994369 \pm 37 \pm 99Mev in the charm quark sector; the mass splitting between the 1+1^{-+} hybrid meson cˉcg{\bar c}c g in the charm quark sector and the spin averaged S-wave charmonium mass is estimated to be 1302±37±991302 \pm 37 \pm 99 MeV. As a byproduct, we obtain 1438±32±571438 \pm 32 \pm 57 MeV for the mass of a P-wave 1++1^{++} uˉu{\bar u}u or dˉd{\bar d}d meson and 1499±28±651499 \pm 28 \pm 65 MeV for the mass of a P-wave 1++1^{++} sˉs{\bar s}s meson, which are comparable to their experimental value 1426 MeV for the f1(1420)f_1(1420) meson. The first error is statistical, and the second one is systematical. The mixing of the hybrid meson with a four quark state is also discussed.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures. Published versio

    Improving QCD with fermions: the 2 dimensional case of QCD with Sea Quarks

    Full text link
    We study QCD in 2 dimensions using the improved lattice fermionic Hamiltonian proposed by Luo, Chen, Xu and Jiang. The vector mass and the chiral condensate are computed for various SU(NC)SU(N_C) gauge groups. We do observe considerable improvement in comparison with the Wilson quark case.Comment: LATTICE98(improvement

    AIM:To investigate the prevalence of pterygium of the household population aged 40 and above in Hengli Town of Dongguan.<p>METHODS: Using the method of cluster random sampling, select 3 628 people aged 40 and above in four villages and one community for visual examination, intraocular pressure check, slit lamp examination and questionnaire.<p>RESULTS: The actual number of subjects was 3 393 people, and examination rate was 93.52%. We detected 843 patients with pterygium. The prevalence of pterygium was 24.85%.<p>CONCLUSION: There is high prevalence of pterygium in Dongguan area. The prevalence of pterygium is related with age and working environment, but has no relation with gender

    The strong OZI allowed decays of the first radial excited states B(2S)B(2S) and D(2S)D(2S) are studied in the instantaneous Bethe-Salpeter method, and by using these OZI allowed channels we estimate the full decay widths: ΓB0(2S)=24.4\Gamma_{B^0(2S)}=24.4 MeV, ΓB+(2S)=23.7\Gamma_{B^+(2S)}=23.7 MeV, ΓD0(2S)=11.3\Gamma_{D^0(2S)}=11.3 MeV and ΓD+(2S)=11.9\Gamma_{D^+(2S)}=11.9 MeV. We also predict the masses of them: MB0(2S)=5.777M_{B^0(2S)}=5.777 GeV, MB+(2S)=5.774M_{B^+(2S)}=5.774 GeV, MD0(2S)=2.390M_{D^0(2S)}=2.390 GeV and MD+(2S)=2.393M_{D^+(2S)}=2.393 GeV.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figur

    A Shift from Democratic to Tri-bimaximal Neutrino Mixing with Relatively Large theta_{13}

    Full text link
    Recent neutrino oscillation data hint that the smallest neutrino mixing angle theta_{13} is possible to lie in the range 5^\circ \lesssim \theta_{13} \lesssim 12^\circ. We show that reasonable perturbations to the democratic mixing pattern, which is geometrically related to the tri-bimaximal mixing pattern through an equal shift \theta_* \simeq 9.7^\circ of two large mixing angles, can naturally produce a nearly tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing matrix V with sufficiently large theta_{13}. Two especially simple but viable scenarios of V are proposed and their phenomenological consequences are discussed.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figure. Slight modifications. References added. Antimicrobial peptaibols, novel suppressors of tumor cells, targeted calcium-mediated apoptosis and autophagy in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers in the world which is highly chemoresistant to currently available chemotherapeutic agents. Thus, novel therapeutic targets are needed to be sought for the successful treatment of HCC. Peptaibols, a family of peptides synthesized non-ribosomally by the <it>Trichoderma </it>species and other fungi, exhibit antibiotic activities against bacteria and fungi. Few studies recently showed that peptaibols exerted cytotoxicity toward human lung epithelial and breast carcinoma cells. However, the mechanism involved in peptaibol-induced cell death remains poorly understood.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Here, we showed that Trichokonin VI (TK VI), a peptaibol from <it>Trichoderma pseudokoningii </it>SMF2, induced growth inhibition of HCC cells in a dose-dependent manner. It did not obviously impair the viability of normal liver cells at lower concentration. Moreover, the suppression of cell viability resulted from the programmed cell death (PCD) with characteristics of apoptosis and autophagy. An influx of Ca2+ triggered the activation of μ-calpain and proceeded to the translocation of Bax to mitochondria and subsequent promotion of apoptosis. On the other hand, typically morphological characteristics consistent with autophagy were also observed by punctate distribution of MDC staining and the induction of LC3-II, including extensive autophagic vacuolization and enclosure of cell organelles by these autophagosomes. More significantly, specific depletion of Bak expression by small RNA interfering (siRNA) could partly attenuate TK VI-induced autophagy. However, siRNA against Bax led to increased autophagy.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Taken together, these findings showed for the first time that peptaibols were novel regulators involved in both apoptosis and autophagy, suggesting that the class of peptaibols might serve as potential suppressors of tumor cells.</p
