Optimize width of navigational channels and ships turning basins in ports

A number of ports are located close to cities or have other limitations on approaching areas of water. The optimization of the port and the use of possible areas of water are linked with the maximum number of the ships that could enter the port. The main factor considered in the presented study is the potential possibilities of water areas used for the ships entering the port as well as manoeuvring, turning, mooring and unmooring operations performed by the largest ships. Ships leaving a port under emergency conditions

    Get PDF
Emergency conditions in a port request special precaution measures taken by ships when in the majority of cases they necessitate leaving port waters in the shortest time. Good management, awareness and timely actions can help with avoiding difficulties encountered by ships under emergency conditions at ports. The conducted research suggested in the article has been based on investigation into ship maneuverability considering complicated weather conditions, theoretical methods for the feasibility of ship maneuverability referring to difficult conditions, experimental tests using the calibrated Simulator and evaluation of real ships under similar conditions. The results of the presented research could be used for analyzing the situation in different ports with different ships regarding practical preparation for vessels to leave the port under emergency conditions without any delay

RABIES AMONG WILD AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS IN LITHUANIA IN 1993-2002: EPIZOOTIOLOGY, DIAGNOSIS AND VACCINATION

Abstract The prevalence of rabies in the animal population of Lithuania during the period of 1993-2002 was investigated. The immunofluorescence method and the mouse inoculation test were used to diagnose the disease. The diagnosis was confirmed by standardized methods recommended by the OIE. During these years 3 667 domestic and 4 312 wild animals were examined. Rabies was diagnosed in 35.73% of domestic and in 64.27% of wild animals. The disease was found to be spread in all regions of Lithuania. The largest centers of rabies infection were determined to be in the districts of Lazdijai, Panevėžys, Utena, and Klaipėda. The highest number of rabies cases (242) was recorded in the Lazdijai district. During the period of 1995-2000 the program of oral vaccination of wild foxes was performed. Approximately 919 000 vaccine baits were disseminated. The tetracycline marker was used to check the bait up-take

MEANS: python package for Moment Expansion Approximation, iNference and Simulation.

MOTIVATION: Many biochemical systems require stochastic descriptions. Unfortunately these can only be solved for the simplest cases and their direct simulation can become prohibitively expensive, precluding thorough analysis. As an alternative, moment closure approximation methods generate equations for the time-evolution of the system's moments and apply a closure ansatz to obtain a closed set of differential equations; that can become the basis for the deterministic analysis of the moments of the outputs of stochastic systems. RESULTS: We present a free, user-friendly tool implementing an efficient moment expansion approximation with parametric closures that integrates well with the IPython interactive environment. Our package enables the analysis of complex stochastic systems without any constraints on the number of species and moments studied and the type of rate laws in the system. In addition to the approximation method our package provides numerous tools to help non-expert users in stochastic analysis. DGW: an exploratory data analysis tool for clustering and visualisation of epigenomic marks

Background Functional genomic and epigenomic research relies fundamentally on sequencing based methods like ChIP-seq for the detection of DNA-protein interactions. These techniques return large, high dimensional data sets with visually complex structures, such as multi-modal peaks extended over large genomic regions. Current tools for visualisation and data exploration represent and leverage these complex features only to a limited extent. Results We present DGW, an open source software package for simultaneous alignment and clustering of multiple epigenomic marks. DGW uses Dynamic Time Warping to adaptively rescale and align genomic distances which allows to group regions of interest with similar shapes, thereby capturing the structure of epigenomic marks. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach in a simulation study and on a real epigenomic data set from the ENCODE project. Conclusions Our results show that DGW automatically recognises and aligns important genomic features such as transcription start sites and splicing sites from histone marks. DGW is available as an open source Python package
