Definition of Tire Properties Required for Landing System Analysis

    Get PDF
The data bank constructed provided two basic advantages for the user of aircraft tire information. First, computerization of the data bank allowed mechanical property data to be stored, corrected, updated, and revised quickly and easily as more reliable tests and measurements were carried out. Secondly, the format of the book which can be printed from the computerized data bank can be easily adjusted to suit the needs of the users without the great expense normally associated with reprinting and editing books set by ordinary typography

Towards longitudinal data analytics in Parkinson's Disease

    Get PDF
The CloudUPDRS app has been developed as a Class I med- ical device to assess the severity of motor symptoms for Parkinson’s Disease using a fully automated data capture and signal analysis pro- cess based on the standard Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale. In this paper we report on the design and development of the signal pro- cessing and longitudinal data analytics microservices developed to carry out these assessments and to forecast the long-term development of the disease. We also report on early findings from the application of these techniques in the wild with a cohort of early adopters

Impact of displacement demand reliability for seismic vulnerability assessment at an urban scale

    Get PDF
This paper addresses seismic vulnerability assessment at an urban scale by focusing on the displacement demand determination for building damage prediction. The study is based on the comparison of urban seismic damage distributions obtained by the displacement demand computed using non-linear time-history analysis (NLTHA) with three simplified methods. These methods include the N2 method, the Lin & Miranda proposal and an optimized version of the N2 method. Comparing the different damage distributions from the three simplified methods with the one obtained by time-history analysis helps understanding the reliability of displacement demand determination. The study is carried out on Sion and Martigny, two typical Swiss cities. For the case of Sion, results clearly show that using N2 method may lead to significant overestimation of damage grade distribution. The use of Lin & Miranda method and optimized version of N2 improves the damage prediction in both cases. For the other studied case of Martigny, N2 method and Lin & Miranda proposal are not accurate. The optimized version of N2 method provides stable and reliable results

Magnetic short-range order in iron above Tc? Statistical mechanics with many-atom interactions

    Get PDF
An effective spin Hamiltonian for iron has been derived previously from electronic structure calculations; there are strong many-atom interactions. The exchange interactions Jij depend on the surrounding magnetic order. We investigate the magnetisation and spin correlation function in iron on this basis in two ways: by fitting the Jij to an analytically soluble Hamiltonian (an extended spherical model) and by Monte Carlo simulation. Short-range manyatom interactions do not lead to substantial short range order in the paramagnetic state; the behaviour closely resembles that of the nearest-neighbour Heisenberg model. The main effect is a slight distortion of the magnetisation curve below TC. Longer range oscillatory pair interactions are needed for short-range order, but are not supported by the electronic structure data. We conclude that calculations of the electronic energy in static configurations do not lead to unusual short range order

Limits on Phase Separation for Two-Dimensional Strongly Correlated Electrons

From calculations of the high temperature series for the free energy of the two-dimensional t-J model we construct series for ratios of the free energy per hole. The ratios can be extrapolated very accurately to low temperatures and used to investigate phase separation. Our results confirm that phase separation occurs only for J/t greater than 1.2. Also, the phase transition into the phase separated state has Tc of approximately 0.25J for large J/t.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figure
