    Ontogenetic changes in mouth morphology triggers conflicting hypotheses of relationships in characid fishes (Ostariophysi: Characiformes)

    ABSTRACT Bryconamericus lethostigmus is the type-species of the monotypic genus Odontostoechus, diagnosed in part based on the presence of a unique tooth series in the premaxilla. Recently a new proposal of classification of the Stevardiinae placed Odontostoechus as a junior synonym of a monophyletic genus Bryconamericus sensu stricto, a genus characterized by the presence of two tooth series. Bryconamericus lethostigmus is redescribed herein and the single tooth series in the premaxilla is demonstrated to originate from merging of the external tooth row with the inner row during ontogeny refuting primary hypothesis of homology between the mouth morphology of B. lethostigmus and the genera Bryconacidnus, Ceratobranchia, Monotocheirodon, Othonocheirodus, Rhinopetitia and Rhinobrycon. A phylogeographic analysis indicated that the pattern described for the sympatric species Diapoma itaimbe is not mirrored by B. lethostigmus. The results also do not support the hypothesis of a new species in the rio AraranguĂĄ drainage

    A Framework Development Method Using Viewpoints and the Views-a Relationship in the OO Design

    In this paper we describe a viewpoint-based design method for framework development. This method uses the concept of viewpoints and the views-a relation in object-oriented design to guide the designer on the identification of hot-spots in the structure of the framework. Case studies have shown that high levels of software reuse can be achieved through the use of object-oriented frameworks. Although, analysis and design methods such as design patterns, meta-object protocol, refactoring, class reorganization, behavior of modification for framework, have been proposed to support frameworks development there are still problems related to this topic associated with ease of reuse. The viewpointbased development method appears to be a very succesful approach from the point of view of component reuse

    Influence of additives on recycled polymer blends

    Polymer systems based on polymer waste offer promising way to increase recycling in the society. Since fillers play a major role in determining the properties and behavior of polymer composites, recycled polymers can also be combined with fillers to enhance the stiffness and thermal stability. In this study, blends of recycled polyethylene and recycled polypropylene with mica and glass fiber were prepared by melt blending technique. The effect of the particle loading, filler type, and filler–matrix interaction on thermal degradation and thermal transition of processed systems were investigated. Thermogravimetric analysis, differential thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry were used in this investigation. Comparative analysis shows that both fillers produced different effects on thermal properties of the processed systems. These results were confirmed by calculating the activation energy for thermal degradation and thermal transition using Kissinger and Flynn–Wall expressions
