    Evaluation of the changes in working limits in an automobile assembly line using simulation

    The aim of the work presented in this paper consists of the development of a decision-making support system, based on discrete-event simulation models, of an automobile assembly line which was implemented within an Arena simulation environment and focused at a very specific class of production lines with a four closed-loop network configuration. This layout system reflects one of the most common configurations of automobile assembly and preassembly lines formed by conveyors. The sum of the number of pallets on the intermediate buffers, remains constant, except for the fourth closed-loop, which depends on the four-door car ratio (x) implemented between the door disassembly and assembly stations of the car body. Some governing equations of the four closed-loops are not compatible with the capacities of several intermediate buffers for certain values of variable x. This incompatibility shows how the assembly line cannot operate in practice for x0,97 in a stationary regime, due to the starvation phenomenon or the failure of supply to the machines on the production line. We have evaluated the impact of the pallet numbers circulating on the first closed-loop on the performance of the production line, translated into the number of cars produced/hour, in order to improve the availability of the entire manufacturing system for any value of x. Until the present date, these facts have not been presented in specialized literature. © 2012 American Institute of Physics

    SHREWS: A game with augmented reality for training computational thinking

    This paper proposes a game to help young students training Computational Thinking (CT) skills to aid in solving problems. CT is a problem-solving approach based on picking a complex problem, understand what the problem is, and develop solutions in a way that a computer or human could solve. To help in this task, Augmented Reality(AR) will provide a more engaging visual way of interaction to keep students motivated while they search for solving problems. This benefit is a consequence of the AR capability of providing a visual and dynamic representation of abstract concepts. This work investigates AR and CT concepts and the best way of combining them for training student's skills to understand software and its effects. Thus, these concepts will be explored for the construction of learning activities to explain and create analogies to understand complex concepts related to computer programs. So the focus of the paper is the introduction of Shrews, the game created in this context. The principle and the proposed architecture are detailed. At the end, there is a description of how the game works and the current state of the prototype. We believe that the immersive experience using AR and CT concepts is one of the important aspects of the game to maintain a motivational approach to students.     Presently work is analyzed the incidence of the remote control use in the saving of fuel in the Company Electric Pinar del Rio. The strategy followed today in day for the electric companies to improve the quality of the service is the one of applying a bigger automation of its nets, installing primary teams of protection and mensuration Nulec, which provide the primary data to be able to evaluate the dependability of the distribution net. It is demonstrated with the present work that with the efficient use of the remote control the consumption of fuel is saved. A plan of measures technician was elaborated - organizational with the objective of increasing the technical readiness of the Nulec in each substation.En el presente trabajo se analiza la incidencia del uso de telecomando en el ahorro de combustible en la Empresa Eléctrica Pinar del Río. La estrategia más seguida hoy en día por las empresas eléctricas para mejorar la calidad del servicio es la de aplicar una mayor automatización de sus redes, instalando equipos primarios de protección y medición Nulec, los cuales proporcionan los datos primarios para poder evaluar la confiabilidad de la red de distribución. Se demuestra con el presente trabajo que con el uso eficiente del telecomando se ahorra el consumo de combustible. Se elaboró un plan de medidas técnico - organizativas con el objetivo de aumentar la disponibilidad técnica de los Nulec en cada subestación

    Internacionalização da educação superior: tensões, cenários e estratégias nos casos Brasil e Espanha

      O presente artigo apresenta reflexões decorrentes da realização de estágio pós doutoral que objetivou conhecer experiências sobre o processo de internacionalização da educação superior no Brasil e Espanha, considerando objetivos, estratégias e tensões. Para tanto, foi realizada revisão bibliográfica e analisados documentos relevantes sobre o tema, a exemplo da proposta da Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (Capes) através do Edital nº 41/2017, disponível na WEB Capes (2017) e o documento Estrategia para La Internacionalización de las Universidades Españolas 2015-2020. A teoria de campo científico de Bourdieu nos possibilitou ver que as estratégias utilizadas para a internacionalização da educação superior, mais acentuadas nos tempos atuais, se inserem também no jogo de lutas pelo poder e pelo monopólio da autoridade científica entre instituições acadêmicas nacionais e internacionais.     Estrategia pedagógica para el proceso formativo en medicina tradicional y natural en la carrera de medicina

    Introduction: the training process of Natural and Traditional Medicine in medical studies is conducted by means of a curricular strategy implemented from the academic course 2010-2011. Objective: to support a strategy to the implementation of a pedagogical conception of the training process in Natural and Traditional Medicine in medical studies at the University of Medical Sciences in Pinar del Rio all along 2008-2014. Material and method: a quantitative and qualitative, descriptive study taking the period of 2008-2014, from a previous analysis of the regularities found in the training process of Natural and Traditional Medicine in medical studies at the University of Medical Sciences in Pinar del Rio. Theoretical methods: analysis and synthesis, modelling and systemic structural. Empirical methods: meetings of the focal group, interviews of groups and documentary analysis. Results: the theoretical bases of the pedagogical conception of the training process of Natural and Traditional Medicine in medical studies were determined, structuring a strategy to implement this conception, where the strengths (7), weakness (6), opportunities (5) and threats (5) were determined. Concerning the objective, the actions responded to the curricular development, to the training of the teaching staff in Natural and Traditional Medicine in medical studies, plus to the creation of pedagogical-institutional environment. The results of the application of two specific actions were illustrated. Conclusions: a pedagogical strategy was structured to the training process of Natural and Traditional Medicine in medical studies. The participatory feature of the pedagogical action conducted along with the pedagogical approach in the design and implementation of the training program created a favourable environment to implement the strategy.Introducción: el proceso formativo en Medicina Tradicional y Natural en la carrera de Medicina se ejecuta desde el curso 2010-2011. Parte de un diagnóstico previo de las regularidades del proceso formativo en MTN en la carrera de Medicina en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Pinar del Río. Métodos teóricos: análisis y síntesis, modelación y sistémico estructural. Métodos empíricos: reuniones de grupo focal, entrevistas grupales y análisis documental.Resultados: se determinaron las bases teóricas de la concepción pedagógica de este proceso en la carrera de Medicina y se estructuró una estrategia para implementar dicha concepción. Se identificaron 7 fortalezas, 6 debilidades, 5 oportunidades y 5 amenazas. Partiendo del objetivo, las acciones tributan al perfeccionamiento curricular , a la preparación en MTN del claustro de la carrera de Medicina y la creación de un clima pedagógico institucional. Se expuso el resultado de la aplicación de 2 acciones específicas.Conclusiones: se estructuró una estrategia pedagógica para el proceso formativo en MTN en la carrera de Medicina. El carácter participativo de la acción estratégica realizada y el enfoque pedagógico en el diseño y ejecución de los programas de capacitación, generó un clima favorable para la implementación de la estrategia

    Características del cáncer hipofaríngeo y laríngeo en el Hospital Oncológico “III Congreso” de Pinar del Río

    Introducción: durante el 2015 el cáncer en Cuba constituyó la primera causa de muerte; el cáncer laríngeo es el tumor maligno no cutáneo más frecuente de cabeza-cuello y segundo del sistema respiratorio, son frecuentes los casos en nuestro medio.Objetivo: describir el cáncer hipofaríngeo y laríngeo en pacientes atendidos en el  Hospital Oncológico “III Congreso” de Pinar del Rio, Cuba, intervalo septiembre de 2011 - enero de 2015.Método: se realizó un estudio descriptivo, de serie de casos. El universo estuvo constituido por todos los pacientes afectos de cáncer hipofaríngeo y laríngeo en el período descrito (N=136), la muestra estuvo constituida por 73 pacientes. Los datos de la investigación se obtuvieron mediante la historia clínica de salud individual y encuesta. Se siguieron los principios bioéticos.Resultados: la mayor frecuencia de presentación se encontró en hombres (84,9%) cuyas edades oscilaban entre los 60 y 69 años de edad (42,4%). Más del 30%  compartían la carpintería como profesión. El hábito de fumar fue el factor de riesgo más frecuente encontrado en los pacientes afectos.Conclusiones: el carcinoma laríngeo representa un problema sanitario y el riesgo de su padecimiento en Cuba es alto, más frecuente en hombres, geriátricos y fumadores. La prevención de esta enfermedad requiere elaborar estrategias que garanticen la disminución de su morbilidad y mortalidad en nuestra población
