Carlos Lozano y Lozano: obra escogida

S-Duality in Gauge Theories as a Canonical Transformation
We show that S-duality in four dimensional non-supersymmetric abelian gauge
theories can be formulated as a canonical transformation in the phase space of
the theory. This transformation is the usual interchange between electric and
magnetic degrees of freedom. It is shown that in phase space the modular
anomaly emerges as the result of integrating out the momenta degrees of
freedom. The generalization to d dimensional abelian gauge theories of p forms
is also considered. In the case of non-abelian gauge theories a careful
analysis of the constraints implied by the canonical transformation shows that
it does not relate Yang-Mills theories with inverted couplings. In fact the
dual theory is shown to be of Freedman- Townsend's type, also with , .Comment: 13 pages, latex file, important changes in the non-abelian case. Some

Constructing families of moderate-rank elliptic curves over number fields
We generalize a construction of families of moderate rank elliptic curves
over to number fields . The construction, originally
due to Steven J. Miller, \'Alvaro Lozano-Robledo and Scott Arms, invokes a
theorem of Rosen and Silverman to show that computing the rank of these curves
can be done by controlling the average of the traces of Frobenius, the
construction for number fields proceeds in essentially the same way. One
novelty of this method is that we can construct families of moderate rank
without having to explicitly determine points and calculating determinants of
height matrices.Comment: Version 1.0, 4 pages, sequel to arXiv:math/040657
Hints of 5d Fixed Point Theories from Non-Abelian T-duality
In this paper we investigate the properties of the putative 5d fixed point
theory that should be dual, through the holographic correspondence, to the new
supersymmetric AdS(6) solution constructed in Lozano et al. This solution is
the result of a non-Abelian T-duality transformation on the known
supersymmetric AdS(6) solution of massive Type IIA. The analysis of the charge
quantization conditions seems to put constraints on the global properties of
the background, which, combined with the information extracted from considering
probe branes, suggests a 2-node quiver candidate for the dual CFT.Comment: v2, typos corrected, comments added, to appear in JHE
Duality and Canonical Transformations
We present a brief review on the canonical transformation description of some
duality symmetries in string and gauge theories. In particular, we consider
abelian and non-abelian T-dualities in closed and open string theories as well
as S-duality in abelian and non-abelian non-supersymmetric gauge theories.Comment: 21 pgs, latex file, talk given at the Argonne Duality Institute, June

Exploring the nature of intimate relationships: A Māori perspective
The 2002 World Report on Violence states that violence occurs in about 70 percent of intimate relationships (Krug, Dahlberg, Mercy, Zwi, & Lozano, 2002). New Zealand research indicates that more than a quarter of relationships have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV), with Māori (Indigenous people of New Zealand) women three times more likely to experience IPV in their lifetime. Utilising Kaupapa Māori (Māori-centred approach) and narrative methodologies, this paper explores the nature of intimate relationships from a Māori perspective, investigating how Māori initiate intimate relationships, attempt to maintain positive intimate relationships and when applicable, exit intimate relationships. The findings from two case studies reveal that intimate relationships involve identity negotiation and an incorporation of cultural values. Communication processes are highlighted as a facilitating factor of intimate relationships
