The effects of different focus of attention on throwing skills among autistic spectrum disorder children

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to examine the effects of external focus (EF) of attention compared to internal focus (IF) of attention instructions on throwing boules in a modified-petanque game among the ASD children. Ten ASD children aged from seven to 10 participated in this study. They were randomly divided into two groups (i.e., EF and IF). The EFgroup were instructed to throw the boules so that it moved in a parabolic trajectory as if they were “creating a rainbow” while the IFgroup were instructedto throw according to conventional techniques, concentrating on the mechanics of the throwing arm during a two week intervention. Repeated Measures ANOVA between groups and tests (pre and post) measuring the accuracy of the throws showedthe EF group performed significantly better compared to the IF group in the post test. Simplified yet effective instructions could elicit effective learning among ASD children. Keywords: Focus of attention; Autistic Spectrum Disorder; Petanque; Childre

    A balloon-borne 1 meter telescope for far-infrared astronomy

    Get PDF
The flight of a balloon-borne one-meter telescope for infrared astronomy in the wavelength interval of 40 to 240 microns is discussed. The gyro-stabilized telescope mapped the intensity of the far infrared radiation from NGC 7538, Mars, the Orion Nebula, and W3 with a resolution of one minute and from selected regions of these sources with a resolution of 30 seconds. The infrared detection is described and its capabilities are analyzed. The instrumentation, orientation system, and modes of observation of the telescope are defined

Bound States and Threshold Resonances in Quantum Wires with Circular Bends

We study the solutions to the wave equation in a two-dimensional tube of unit width comprised of two straight regions connected by a region of constant curvature. We introduce a numerical method which permits high accuracy at high curvature. We determine the bound state energies as well as the transmission and reflection matrices, T{\cal T} and R{\cal R} and focus on the nature of the resonances which occur in the vicinity of channel thresholds. We explore the dependence of these solutions on the curvature of the tube and angle of the bend and discuss several limiting cases where our numerical results confirm analytic predictions.Comment: 24 pages, revtex file, one style file and 17 PostScript figures include

Prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries among young squash players in Malaysia

The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries sustained by young squash players in Malaysia. This study was conducted retrospectively by usingStandardized Nordic Questionnaire (NSQ) during SUKMA 2016 at Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. The questionnaires were distributed to the squash players after getting the approval from the authorities. Totally 94 questionnaires were distributed and 60 questionnaires (62.5%) were returned with completed answers. The mean age of the respondents were 17.58 ± 3.042 years with 8.85 ± 3.013 years of experience of playing squash. Among the respondents 83.33% were reported that they had musculoskeletal problems during last 12 months. The wrist and hand were the area with the highest (31.7%) prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms, and the elbow with least (8.3%) prevalence among the respondents.Key Words: Squash, musculoskeletal, injury, survey, evaluatio

Recent experimental results on inclusive diffractive scattering and on exclusive vector meson production are reviewed. The dynamical picture of hard diffraction emerging in perturbative QCD is highlighted.Comment: 25 pages, 21 postscript figures, contribution to the XIX International Symposium on Lepton and Photon Interactions at High Energies, Stanford University, August 9-14, 199

Infrared receivers for low background astronomy: Incoherent detectors and coherent devices from one micrometer to one millimeter

    Get PDF
The status of incoherent detectors and coherent receivers over the infrared wavelength range from one micrometer to one millimeter is described. General principles of infrared receivers are included, and photon detectors, bolometers, coherent receivers, and important supporting technologies are discussed, with emphasis on their suitability for low background astronomical applications. Broad recommendations are presented and specific opportunities are identified for development of improved devices

Performance analysis of the Malaysian elite youth squash players

    Get PDF
This study analysed the frequencies and court locations of squash strokes performed by elite Malaysian youth players before and during a national tournament. One hundred and seventy nine matches participated by six players (three men and three women) were analysed. Data collected via video recordings and coded post match using Studiocode® analysis software. The straight and cross court drives were the most frequent strokes used by both genders, with more on the backhand side. The drop shot and straight drives contributed to most winners for the men and women respectively. Most winners were produced by the players when they occupied the middle areas of the court. The areas that resulted most errors were the four corners of the court for the men whilst the women was on their backhand side areas. Objective feedback on the performance prior to a major competition provided some positive results. Keywords: performance analysis, squash, youth
