    A Note on the Algebra of Operations for Hopf Cohomology at Odd Primes

    Let pp be any prime, and let B(p){\mathcal B}(p) be the algebra of operations on the cohomology ring of any cocommutative Fp\mathbb{F}_p-Hopf algebra. In this paper we show that when pp is odd (and unlike the p=2p=2 case), B(p){\mathcal B}(p) cannot become an object in the Singer category of Fp\mathbb{F}_p-algebras with coproducts, if we require that coproducts act on the generators of B(p){\mathcal B}(p) coherently with their nature of cohomology operation

    In this paper we show how to construct two continuous variable and one continuous functional quantum hidden subgroup (QHS) algorithms. These are respectively quantum algorithms on the additive group of reals R, the additive group R/Z of the reals R mod 1, i.e., the circle, and the additive group Paths of L^2 paths x:[0,1]-->R^n in real n-space R^n.     An algebraic classification of entangled states

    We provide a classification of entangled states that uses new discrete entanglement invariants. The invariants are defined by algebraic properties of linear maps associated with the states. We prove a theorem on a correspondence between the invariants and sets of equivalent classes of entangled states. The new method works for an arbitrary finite number of finite-dimensional state subspaces. As an application of the method, we considered a large selection of cases of three subspaces of various dimensions. We also obtain an entanglement classification of four qubits, where we find 27 fundamental sets of classes.Comment: published versio

    Determination of carbonyl compounds in exhaled breath by on-sorbent derivatization coupled with thermal desorption and gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

    A reliable method for the determination of carbonyl compounds in exhaled breath based on on-sorbent derivatization coupled with thermal desorption and gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry is described. The analytical performances were optimized for a mixture of C2-C9 aldehydes and C3-C9 ketones, particularly interesting for clinical applications, by using an internal standard and applying a 2^3 full factorial design. A volume of sample (250 ml) was loaded at 50 ml min-1 into a Tenax GR sorbent tube containing 130 nmol of O-(2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorobenzyl)hydroxylamine hydrochloride. All compounds showed a limit of detection lower than 200 pptv. The yield of the derivatization procedure was normalized by adding to the sample a known amount of 6D-acetone as an internal standard. This allowed halving the relative standard deviation to 10% and 15% for the mono-and di-carbonyl compounds, respectively, thus improving reliability. The optimized method was applied to the determination of carbonyl compounds in 12 breath samples collected from four patients suffering from heart failure during hospitalization

    Search for the genome of bovine herpesvirus types 1, 4 and 5 in bovine semen

    Bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BoHV-1) causes respiratory and reproductive disorders in cattle. Recently, bovine herpesvirus type 5 (BoHV-5) and bovine herpesvirus type 4 (BoHV-4) have been identified to be associated with genital disease. In this study, the presence of the genome of BoHV-1, BoHV-4 and BoHV-5 in bovine semen of Argentinean and international origin was analyzed by PCR assays. The most important finding of this study is the detection of the genome of BoHV-1 and BoHV-4 in semen of bulls maintained at artificial insemination centers. It is particularly relevant that BoHV-1 DNA was also identified in one sample of international origin suggesting the need for extensive quality control measures on international transport of bovine semen.Fil: Moran, P.     Successful treatment of persistent postoperative air leaks following the placement of an endobronchial one-way valve

    resection in pathological conditions of the lung involve a very large spectrum of available methods, from chest drainage and placement of Heimlich valves to surgical repair or pleural decortication. However, in some of these patients surgery may be contraindicated. This report describes an endobronchial approach to the control of marked and prolonged air leaks in four patients using a newly designed one-way airway valve (Pulmonx Corporation; Redwood City, Ca.USA) placed into the segmental bronchus that is the source of air leakage. As the device is a one-way inspiratory airway blocker, it can be used to control persistent air leaks while maintaining the drainage of mucus. This approach potentially provides an effective nonsurgical and minimally invasive alternative addition to the armamentarium of treatments for patients who suffer with persistent post-operative air leaks where other methods have failed or in frail patients who are categorised as a high surgical risk

    Analysis of radiatively stable entanglement in a system of two dipole-interacting three-level atoms

    We explore the possibilities of creating radiatively stable entangled states of two three-level dipole-interacting atoms in a Λ\Lambda configuration by means of laser biharmonic continuous driving or pulses. We propose three schemes for generation of entangled states which involve only the lower states of the Λ\Lambda system, not vulnerable to radiative decay.
