Selected Experimental Results from Heavy Ion Collisions at LHC
We review a subset of experimental results from the heavy-ion collisions at
the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) facility at CERN. Excellent consistency is
observed across all the experiments at the LHC (at center of mass energy of
2.76 TeV) for the measurements such as charged particle multiplicity density,
azimuthal anisotropy coefficients and nuclear modification factor of charged
hadrons. Comparison to similar measurements from the Relativistic Heavy Ion
Collider (RHIC) at lower energy (center of mass energy of 200 GeV) suggests
that system formed at LHC has a higher energy density, larger system size, and
lives for a longer time. These measurements are compared to model calculations
to obtain physical insights on the properties of matter created at the RHIC and
LHC.Comment: 19 pages and 26 figures. Accepted for publication in the special

Characterization of mango (Mangifera indica L.) genotypes based on physio-chemical quality attributes
Evaluation of fruit crops has been successfully utilized for studying the performance of varieties under different agro climatic regions time to time. In the present study cultivars were characterized on the basis of their physico-biochemical attributes. “Mallika” and “Neelgoa” were found superior in terms of fruit weight (321.87 g), size (12.55 cm, 8.13 cm), pulp weight (257.91 g) and pulp stone ratio (7.71) respectively. “Mallika” excelled in terms of sugar (20.82), while “Amrapali” in carotenoids (8.38 mg/100 g). Among them, Mallika (22.41?B) possessed the high-est amount of total soluble solids while lowest amount in Langra (16.90 ?B) whereas maximum titrable. The study shows the potential of Amrapali in terms of its quality, being late can meet the demand for later period when no other cultivar is available

Hartala (Orpiment) is a deep orange-yellow colored mineral with formula As2S3 and Godanti (Gypsum) is a very soft sulfate mineral with the chemical formula CaSO4 2H2O. Hartala bhasma and Hartalagodanti bhasma is being in practice widely in Ayurvedic formulation in spite of its toxic nature. This study includes, Sodhan (purification) of Haratala and Godanti, Marana of Hartala, Godanti and Hartalagodanti, Chemical Analysis of Hartala bhasma and Hartalagodanti bhasma and Comparative antimicrobial study of Hartala bhasma and Hartalagodanti bhasma. Antimicrobial activity of Hartala bhasma and Hartalagodanti bhasma was conducted against gram positive, gram negative bacteria to evaluate its efficacy as broad spectrum antibiotic. So an attempt had been made to put Hartala bhasma and Hartalagodanti bhasma as an antimicrobial agent. Hartala bhasma and Hartalagodanti bhasma has an effective antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus in both Diffusion methods (Kirby- Bauer disc diffusion method and Stokes disc diffusion method) and Dilution methods (Broth dilution method & Agar dilution method)
A hospital based eye health survey to see the pattern of eye diseases in Uttarakhand, India
Background: The cause of blindness and low vision differs in different countries and communities. The requirements of eye services also vary according to the need of the native population. Studies showing the pattern of ocular morbidity are needed to build better infrastructure of eye care facilities. Methods: This prospective study was conducted in eye department of Government Doon Medical College, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India between April 2016 to May 2016.the patients were seen in eye OPD by ophthalmologists. Proper anterior and posterior segment evaluation was done and patients were treated accordingly. Data including the registration number, name of the patient, age, sex and diagnosis were recorded in OPD register and analysed. Results: Total 1259 patients were examined. 605 were male and 654 were female. The mean age of male patients was 43 years and for females was 41.33 years. Refractive error (20.97%) was the commonest ocular morbidity in our study followed by cataract (20.02%), follow ups of cataract surgeries and allergic conjunctivitis. Besides refractive errors total 137 (10.88%) patients were presbyopic. Conclusions: This study shows a slightly exceeding number of female patients, which shows that females are equally aware of their health problems. Refractive errors are the most common cause in present study with cataract being second, may be because of higher mean age of the patients presenting to OPD. In present study allergic conjunctivitis was third commonest cause of ocular morbidity in our district may be due to windy weather. The leading causes of ocular morbidity in our study were refractive errors, cataract, allergic conjunctivitis and, presbyopia. The high prevalence of refractive errors and cataracts shows that hospital still requires an improved infrastructure with spectacle provision to the patients
Seroprevalence of HIV in ANC clinic attendees and utilization of PPTCT services at a tertiary care hospital of western Rajasthan, India
Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in pregnant women has an important role in its spread to paediatric population by means of vertical transmission. Effective utilization of PPTCT services can reduce this spread. This study aims to determine seroprevalence of HIV in antenatal women, demographic factors of seropositive women and utilization of PPTCT services to minimize the risk of mother to child transmission. Methods: A retrospective study was done among pregnant women attending antenatal clinic of a tertiary care hospital within a period of two years from November 2013 to October 2015. Pre-test counselling, HIV testing, and post-test counselling were done as per NACO guidelines. Antiretroviral prophylaxis was given to seropositive women and their children. Analysis of demographic data of seropositive women and assessment of utilization of PPTCT services was done. Results: Out of 40,913 new antenatal registrations 26,803 (65.58%) women attended pre test counselling and 24716(60.41%) of them accepted HIV testing. Thirty-eight women were found to be seropositive with a seroprevalence rate of 0.16%. Majority of seropositve women were young primigravida, illiterate housewives belonging to rural area. Eight out of 33 partners of seropositive women tested, were found to be seronegative. Out of the 38 seropositive women, 4(10.52%) opted for pregnancy termination, and 31(81.57%) had delivery in our institution. All mother and baby pairs received antiretroviral prophylaxis. Conclusions: Seroprevalence of HIV infection in antenatal women is relatively low in this region than the national average and acceptance of therapeutic interventions to reduce the mother to child transmission is high. There is scope to improve acceptance of counselling and testing of HIV
Influence of pre-harvest application of gibberellin and brassinosteroid on fruit growth and quality characteristics of pear (Pyrus pyrifolia (Burm.) Nakai) cv. Gola
Quality of fruit crop is an important parameter to decide the acceptability of the product. The present study consists of seventeen year old pear (Pyrus pyrifolia (Burm.) Nakai) trees subjected to seven treatments viz., GA3 (50 ppm,100 ppm), BR (0.5 ppm, 1.0 ppm), and GA3 + BR (50 ppm + 0.5 ppm and 100 ppm + 1 ppm) and water as control, sprayed thrice at 15 days intervals starting from petal fall stage. Each treatment was replicated thrice with one tree served as a treatment unit. The experiment was conducted in Randomized Block Design. The fruits treated with GA3 @ 50 ppm (T1) showed the highest fruit length (6.98 cm), breadth (6.81 cm), weight (175.9 g) and volume (171.16 cc). An improvement in terms of fruit quality was observed either alone or in combined application of GA3 and BR. The application of BR @ 1 ppm (T4) recorded the highest TSS (12.91°Brix) and lowest titrable acidity (0.42%) while the highest ascorbic acid content (6.95 mg / 100 g) and non reducing sugar (0.44%) was estimated under GA3 @ 100 ppm + BR @ 1 ppm (T6). Total sugar (7.88%) and reducing sugar (7.45%) was observed highest in GA3 @ 50 ppm + BR @ 0.5 ppm (T5). Based on this research combined application of GA3 + BR had a positive effect and therefore can be recommended for spray on pear in order to obtain higher yield and better quality
Viability of Bianchi type V Universe in gravity
In this paper, we examine the viability of Bianchi type V universe in
theory of gravitation. To solve the field equations, we have
considered the power law for scale factor and constructed a singular Lagrangian
model which is based on the coupling between Ricci scalar R and trace of
energy-momentum tensor T. We find the constraints on Hubble constant
and free parameter with 46 observational Hubble dataset and obtain pretty
satisfactory results. The physical features of the model and transitional
behavior of equation of state (EOS) parameter are analyzed. We examine the
nature of physical parameters and validity of energy conditions as well as
stability condition. We also present the Om(z) and statefinder diagnostic
analysis for the derived model.Comment: 11 Figures, 12 page
