    Thermal transfer simulation regarding the rotational moulding of polyamide 11

    Simulation of thermal phenomena in rotational moulding is very important to follow the evolution of the temperature in various zones of this process. It was a question of modelling heat gradients developing in rota-tional moulding part. Thermal model tested take into account the temperature change (thermal transfer mecha-nism) of melting and crystallization pseudo-stages (enthalpy method). Series of tests in polyamide 11 (PA11) were carried out by means of rotational moulding STP LAB, and non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of rota-tional moulding PA11 grade are measured and analysed by DSC technique type TAQ20. A result of non-isothermal crystallization of the studied polyamide was confronted with Ozawa model. In order to test the validity degree of enthalpy method (layer to layer), another approach based on Ozawa model has also been used in the case of cooling pseudo-stage. As results, the rotational moulding of PA11 was successfully carried out. The simulation of the fusion and crystallization stages, by application of Ozawa model coupled with enthalpy method gave a good representation of experimental data

    Taxonomy and antimicrobial activities of a new Streptomyces sp. TN17 isolated in the soil from an oasis in Tunis

    An actinomycete strain referred to as TN17 was screened for its antimicrobial activities. The taxonomic status of this strain was established. The organism was found to have morphological and chemotaxonomic characteristics typical of Streptomycetes. Based on the 16S rRNA nucleotide sequences, Streptomyces sp. TN17 was found to have a relationship with Streptomyces lilaceus, Streptomyces gobitricini and Streptomyces lavendofoliae. Combined analysis of the 16 S rRNA gene sequence (FN687757), phylogenetic analysis, fatty acids profile and physiological tests indicated that there are genotypic and phenotypic differences between TN17 and neighboring Streptomyces species’ neighbors. Therefore, TN17 is a novel species: Streptomyces sp. TN17 (=DSM 42020T=CTM50229T). A cultured extract of this strain inhibits the growth of several Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria and fungi

    A Quantitative Analysis of Code-switching in the Arabic-Romance Kharjas

    This paper studies code-switching between Andalusian Arabic and Romance in the kharjas, the closing verses of the muwashshahaat poems. These poems, dating from the 11th to the 14th centuries, were composed in Classical Arabic, while the kharjas were written in two languages of Al-Andalus: Andalusian Arabic and Romance. The purpose is to investigate to what degree the structural aspect of code-switching in the kharjas conforms to descriptions in the current literature on code-switching in bilingual communities and what that tells us about the degree of bilingualism in Al-Andalus. The 43 kharjas (Corriente, 2008) present a total of 104 codeswitches: 82 intra-sentential, 13 word-internal and 9 inter-sentential. The base language in the majority of cases is Romance: 73 % of the switches occurred from Romance to Arabic. Crosstabulations of the direction of the switch, lexical category of the switched parts and what immediately precedes and follows them show statistically significant relationships, indicating that the code-switches found in this corpus are not the result of a random process of language mixing resulting in “an outlandish and deliberately unsophisticated patois” (Monroe, 1974:31). A study of the intra-sentential code-switches also contributes to an explanation of the behavior of the Arabic definite article, al- and its allomorphs, in Arabic loanwords

    Purification and structure elucidation of three naturally bioactive molecules from the new terrestrial Streptomyces sp. TN17 strain

    Thirty litres of fermentation broth was extracted from the newly isolated Streptomyces sp. strain TN17 and various separation and purification steps led to the isolation of three pure bioactive compounds (1–3). Compound 1: cyclo (L-Leu-L-Arg), a diketopiperazine ‘DKP’ derivative; 2: di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, a phthalate derivative; and 3: cyclo 1-[2-(cyclopentanecarbonyl-3-phenyl-propionyl]-pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid (1-carbamoyl-propyl)-amide, a cyclic tetrapeptide derivative. The chemical structure of these three active compounds was established on the basis of spectroscopic studies (MS and NMR) and by comparison with data from the literature. According to our biological studies, the pure compounds (1–3) possess antibacterial and antifungal activities

This study used a qualitative research approach, and the subjects of this study were 10 students of the Ahmad Dahlan University of English Language Education. Data were collected using the open-ended interview as the instrument. Data analysis in this study used a qualitative descriptive. In analyzing data, this study refers to coding analysis consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. This research revealed that the benefits of using Kahoot! as follow: (1) motivating students to learn, (2) building a good atmosphere in class, (3) helping students to get focus, and (5) providing positive competition.     Single-Event Upset Analysis and Protection in High Speed Circuits

    The effect of single-event transients (SETs) (at a combinational node of a design) on the system reliability is becoming a big concern for ICs manufactured using advanced technologies. An SET at a node of combinational part may cause a transient pulse at the input of a flip-flop and consequently is latched in the flip-flop and generates a soft-error. When an SET conjoined with a transition at a node along a critical path of the combinational part of a design, a transient delay fault may occur at the input of a flip-flop. On the other hand, increasing pipeline depth and using low power techniques such as multi-level power supply, and multi-threshold transistor convert almost all paths in a circuit to critical ones. Thus, studying the behavior of the SET in these kinds of circuits needs special attention. This paper studies the dynamic behavior of a circuit with massive critical paths in the presence of an SET. We also propose a novel flip-flop architecture to mitigate the effects of such SETs in combinational circuits.     Epileptic high-frequency network activity in a model of non-lesional temporal lobe epilepsy

    High-frequency cortical activity, particularly in the 250–600 Hz (fast ripple) band, has been implicated in playing a crucial role in epileptogenesis and seizure generation. Fast ripples are highly specific for the seizure initiation zone. However, evidence for the association of fast ripples with epileptic foci depends on animal models and human cases with substantial lesions in the form of hippocampal sclerosis, which suggests that neuronal loss may be required for fast ripples. In the present work, we tested whether cell loss is a necessary prerequisite for the generation of fast ripples, using a non-lesional model of temporal lobe epilepsy that lacks hippocampal sclerosis. The model is induced by unilateral intrahippocampal injection of tetanus toxin. Recordings from the hippocampi of freely-moving epileptic rats revealed high-frequency activity (4100 Hz), including fast ripples. High-frequency activity was present both during interictal discharges and seizure onset. Interictal fast ripples proved a significantly more reliable marker of the primary epileptogenic zone than the presence of either interictal discharges or ripples (100–250 Hz). These results suggest that fast ripple activity should be considered for its potential value in the pre-surgical workup of non-lesional temporal lobe epilepsy

    Taxonomy, purification and chemical characterization of four bioactive compounds from new Streptomyces sp. TN256 strain

    A new actinomycete strain designated TN256, producing antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria and fungi, was isolated from a Tunisian Saharan soil. Morphological and chemical studies indicated that strain TN256 belonged to the genus Streptomyces. Analysis of the 16S rDNA sequence of strain TN256 showed a similarity level ranging between 99.79 and 97.8% within Streptomyces microflavus DSM 40331T and Streptomyces griseorubiginosus DSM 40469T respectively. The comparison of its physiological characteristics showed significant differences with the nearest species. Combined analysis of the 16 S rRNA gene sequences (FN687758), fatty acids profile, and results of physiological and biochemical tests indicated that there were genotypic and phenotypic differentiations of that isolate from other Streptomyces species neighbours. These date strongly suggest that strain TN256 represents a novel species with the type strain Streptomyces TN256 (=CTM50228T). Experimental validation by DNA–DNA hybridization would be required for conclusive confirmation. Four active products (1–4) were isolated from the culture broth of Streptomyces TN256 using various separation and purification steps and procedures. 1: N-[2-(1H-indol-3-yl)-2 oxo-ethyl] acetamide ‘alkaloid’ derivative; 2: di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, a phthalate derivative; 3: 1-Nonadecene and 4: Cyclo (l-Pro-l-Tyr) a diketopiperazine ‘DKP’ derivative. Through the lens of the Egyptian legal system, the paper offers case-studies of collective decision making on matters of personal status, it focuses on the state\u27s different approach towards the regulation of personal status for its Muslim and non-Muslim citizens; in the legal context of the ‘best interests of the child’ it looks at the multiple entanglements of legislation and its eventual actualisation in Egyptian courts; and it uses classical examples of Egyptian cinema popularly associated with changes in legislation – underlining how the big screen in Egypt has often been the place where some of the most contentious and divisive matters of personal status have been discussed.https://ecommons.aku.edu/uk_ismc_series_ops/1006/thumbnail.jp

    Soutenue par la théorie d'agence, la performance des conseils d'administration a largement été associée aux déterminants traditionnels (taille du conseil, indépendance des administrateurs et séparation des fonctions). Les théories cognitives apportent des arguments pouvant réfuter cette association. L'objectif de ce papier est de mettre en exergue l'existence d'autres types de variables impliquant la performance des CA avec un pouvoir explicatif plus important. En effet, sur un échantillon de 123 PME françaises, nous montrons que la performance du CA n'est pas tant reliée aux déterminants dits traditionnels mais plutÎt à des composants relevant de variables de compétences des administrateurs ainsi que des modes de fonctionnement du CA.conseil d'administration, performance, déterminants, PME françaises
