A quantum protocol for cheat-sensitive weak coin flipping
We present a quantum protocol for the task of weak coin flipping. We find
that, for one choice of parameters in the protocol, the maximum probability of
a dishonest party winning the coin flip if the other party is honest is
1/sqrt(2). We also show that if parties restrict themselves to strategies
wherein they cannot be caught cheating, their maximum probability of winning
can be even smaller. As such, the protocol offers additional security in the

On bit-commitment based quantum coin flipping
In this paper, we focus on a special framework for quantum coin flipping
protocols,_bit-commitment based protocols_, within which almost all known
protocols fit. We show a lower bound of 1/16 for the bias in any such protocol.
We also analyse a sequence of multi-round protocol that tries to overcome the
drawbacks of the previously proposed protocols, in order to lower the bias. We
show an intricate cheating strategy for this sequence, which leads to a bias of
1/4. This indicates that a bias of 1/4 might be optimal in such protocols, and
also demonstrates that a cleverer proof technique may be required to show this

In the adaptive markets hypothesis (AMH) intelligent but fallible investors learn from and adapt to changing economic environments. This implies that markets are not always efficient but are usually competitive and adaptive, varying in their degree of efficiency as the environment and investor population change over time. The AMH has several implications, including the possibility of negative risk premiums, alpha converging to beta, and the importance of macro factors and risk budgeting in asset allocation policies
Field-induced structure transformation in electrorheological solids
We have computed the local electric field in a body-centered tetragonal (BCT)
lattice of point dipoles via the Ewald-Kornfeld formulation, in an attempt to
examine the effects of a structure transformation on the local field strength.
For the ground state of an electrorheological solid of hard spheres, we
identified a novel structure transformation from the BCT to the face-centered
cubic (FCC) lattices by changing the uniaxial lattice constant c under the hard
sphere constraint. In contrast to the previous results, the local field
exhibits a non-monotonic transition from BCT to FCC. As c increases from the
BCT ground state, the local field initially decreases rapidly towards the
isotropic value at the body-centered cubic lattice, decreases further, reaching
a minimum value and increases, passing through the isotropic value again at an
intermediate lattice, reaches a maximum value and finally decreases to the FCC
value. An experimental realization of the structure transformation is
suggested. Moreover, the change in the local field can lead to a generalized
Clausius-Mossotti equation for the BCT lattices.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Rev.
Using patterns position distribution for software failure detection
Pattern-based software failure detection is an important topic of research in recent years. In this method, a set of patterns from program execution traces are extracted, and represented as features, while their occurrence frequencies are treated as the corresponding feature values. But this conventional method has its limitation due to ignore the pattern’s position information, which is important for the classification of program traces. Patterns occurs in the different positions of the trace are likely to represent different meanings. In this paper, we present a novel approach for using pattern’s position distribution as features to detect software failure. The comparative experiments in both artificial and real datasets show the effectiveness of this method
A New Stochastic Strategy for the Minority Game
We present a variant of the Minority Game in which players who where
successful in the previous timestep stay with their decision, while the losers
change their decision with a probability . Analytical results for different
regimes of and the number of players are given and connections to
existing models are discussed. It is shown that for the average
loss is of the order of 1 and does not increase with as for

Similarity transformations approach for a generalized Fokker-Planck equation
By using similarity transformations approach, the exact propagator for a
generalized one-dimensional Fokker-Planck equation, with linear drift force and
space-time dependent diffusion coefficient, is obtained. The method is simple
and enables us to recover and generalize special cases studied through the Lie

Orbital magnetism in axially deformed sodium clusters: From scissors mode to dia-para magnetic anisotropy
Low-energy orbital magnetic dipole excitations, known as scissors mode (SM),
are studied in alkali metal clusters. Subsequent dynamic and static effects are
explored. The treatment is based on a self-consistent microscopic approach
using the jellium approximation for the ionic background and the Kohn-Sham mean
field for the electrons. The microscopic origin of SM and its main features
(structure of the mode in light and medium clusters, separation into low- and
high-energy plasmons, coupling high-energy M1 scissors and E2 quadrupole
plasmons, contributions of shape isomers, etc) are discussed. The scissors M1
strength acquires large values with increasing cluster size. The mode is
responsible for the van Vleck paramagnetism of spin-saturated clusters. Quantum
shell effects induce a fragile interplay between Langevin diamagnetism and van
Vleck paramagnetism and lead to a remarkable dia-para anisotropy in magnetic
susceptibility of particular light clusters. Finally, several routes for
