An Experimental Study on Pitch Compensation in Pedestrian-Protection Systems for Collision Avoidance and Mitigation

This paper describes an improved stereovision system for the anticipated detection of car-to-pedestrian accidents. An improvement of the previous versions of the pedestrian-detection system is achieved by compensation of the camera's pitch angle, since it results in higher accuracy in the location of the ground plane and more accurate depth measurements. The system has been mounted on two different prototype cars, and several real collision-avoidance and collision-mitigation experiments have been carried out in private circuits using actors and dummies, which represents one of the main contributions of this paper. Collision avoidance is carried out by means of deceleration strategies whenever the accident is avoidable. Likewise, collision mitigation is accomplished by triggering an active hood system

[EN] This final degree project consists of applying different sensors and a microcontroller that obtain information on consumption, voltages and currents from the different circuits in a home. These data will be sent to a website, which will show the most significant values and different graphs so that the electricity consumption of the home broken down by circuits can be viewed from the internet (it could be replicated to do the energy audit of an industrial installation obtaining the load curve in real time of the most relevant loads in the installation); In this way IoT technology would be applied for energy management.Llorca Llinares, D. An approach to the influence of climate change on the seasonal real estate market

[EN] The effects of climate change are becoming more apparent day by day. This is reflected in an increasing global warming that produces changes in the climate in the short and medium term with potential and growing consequences in the behavioral patterns of society. The climate crisis described above may have significant consequences on the vacation dynamics of national and foreign audiences. Effects such as the increase in temperatures, the desertification and erosion of large areas of the territory, or the scarcity of rainfall, reduce or alter the appeal of traditional holiday destinations. The loss of interest in typical tourist areas and the detour of their public to other areas that had never been touristic, cause alterations in the real estate market.Despite the topicality and importance of this subject, the existing bibliography is scarce and scattered. This paper attempts to compile the existing scientific publications on the effect of climate change on real estate investment, as well as the main factors to be considered.García Martínez, F.; Llorca Ponce, A.; Pérez Royo, D. Towards the real estate project. The architect in the new paradigm of real estate investment

[EN] After the financial crisis of 2008, which hit the real estate sector particularly hard, there was a paradigm shift in the real estate investment process. Traditional development was drastically reduced, giving rise to the emergence of other agents. The model of analysis, decision-making and development has been redefined. It is assimilated to other types of more abstract investments, while maintaining a clear local component. A tour of the different investment mechanisms that have burst into the sector is made like venture capital funds, crowdfunding platforms, participatory companies and investors with foreign capital. This paper deals with the question of how external circumstances have an impact depending on the objective of the investment. And another point analyzed is the real estate as a product or the real estate as a tool for the sale of another product (tertiary sector). The aim of this paper is to analyze the position of the architect in the new context of identifying opportunities in the real estate sector. In this new context the architect plays a key role in the investment strategy taking into account what both society and the investors need, and thus participates in all phases of the process.Pérez Royo, D.; Llorca Ponce, A.; García Martínez, F. Evaluation between Virtual Acoustic Model and Real Acoustic Scenarios for Urban Representation

    Get PDF
Audio representation is critical for immersive virtual environments. This article presents a quasi-experiment based on architecture students evaluating the immersive impact of 3D audio in the representation of urban environments. In the framework of acoustic urban heritage preservation, a set of city squares with varying acoustic features were used as case studies in a two-step process: an objective analysis of the acoustic properties of these spaces; and the users’ subjective perceptions of the virtual environment of the squares. The study shows that we can gain a better understanding of the objective parameters through the subjective views of users. Acoustic heritage can be assessed subjectively using an immersive system such as virtual reality, in which audio representation is a key factor

Pedestrian and Passenger Interaction with Autonomous Vehicles: Field Study in a Crosswalk Scenario

This study presents the outcomes of empirical investigations pertaining to human-vehicle interactions involving an autonomous vehicle equipped with both internal and external Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) within a crosswalk scenario. The internal and external HMIs were integrated with implicit communication techniques, incorporating a combination of gentle and aggressive braking maneuvers within the crosswalk. Data were collected through a combination of questionnaires and quantifiable metrics, including pedestrian decision to cross related to the vehicle distance and speed. The questionnaire responses reveal that pedestrians experience enhanced safety perceptions when the external HMI and gentle braking maneuvers are used in tandem. In contrast, the measured variables demonstrate that the external HMI proves effective when complemented by the gentle braking maneuver. Furthermore, the questionnaire results highlight that the internal HMI enhances passenger confidence only when paired with the aggressive braking maneuver.Comment: Submitted to the IEEE TIV; 13 pages, 13 figures, 7 tables. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2307.1270
