FIELD APPLICATION OF THE PM LEADERSHIP THEORY ON THE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL MASTERS OF SHANDONG PROVINCE IN CHINA
The teaching level of senior high school education is closely related to the management model and the leadership ability of the principal. This paper is an empirical study on the leadership behavior of the senior high school masters in Shandong Province using a modified from of the PM scale for leadership behavior assessment according to the characteristics of China’s educational system. The result of our research shows that the PM leadership behavior in the senior high school has these characteristics: The two functions of senior high school masters in “P” and “M” leadership behavior factors have significant differences when contrasted with the other organizations. Evaluations of teachers and managerial staff with regard to leadership behavior indicate a significant difference in the P leadership behavior factor. On the other hand, evaluations of teachers and the managerial staff indicate no significant difference in M leadership behavior factor. With regard to the values of working situation factors in schools, the teacher group and the managerial staff group indicate no significant difference in stimulation, satisfaction degree toward treatment and performance criteria, but indicate a distinctive difference in information communication. And, based on the present managerial situation of China’s senior high schools and the PM theory of leadership, some advice is presented on how to improve the management behavior of principals. Key words: leadership behaviour, P factor, M facto
Onsite data processing and monitoring for the Daya Bay Experiment
The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment started running on September 23,
2011. The offline computing environment, consisting of 11 servers at Daya Bay,
was built to process onsite data. With current computing ability, onsite data
processing is running smoothly. The Performance Quality Monitoring system (PQM)
has been developed to monitor the detector performance and data quality. Its
main feature is the ability to efficiently process multi-data-stream from three
experimental halls. The PQM processes raw data files from the Daya Bay data
acquisition system, generates and publishes histograms via a graphical web
interface by executing the user-defined algorithm modules, and saves the
histograms for permanent storage. The fact that the whole process takes only
around 40 minutes makes it valuable for the shift crew to monitor the running
status of all the sub-detectors and the data quality
Experimental Investigation of Longitudinal Space-Time Correlations of the Velocity Field in Turbulent Rayleigh-B\'{e}nard Convection
We report an experimental investigation of the longitudinal space-time
cross-correlation function of the velocity field, , in a cylindrical
turbulent Rayleigh-B\'{e}nard convection cell using the particle image
velocimetry (PIV) technique. We show that while the Taylor's frozen-flow
hypothesis does not hold in turbulent thermal convection, the recent elliptic
model advanced for turbulent shear flows [He & Zhang, \emph{Phys. Rev. E}
\textbf{73}, 055303(R) (2006)] is valid for the present velocity field for all
over the cell, i.e., the isocorrelation contours of the measured
have a shape of elliptical curves and hence can be related to
via with and
being two characteristic velocities. We further show that the fitted is
proportional to the mean velocity of the flow, but the values of are
larger than the theoretical predictions. Specifically, we focus on two
representative regions in the cell: the region near the cell sidewall and the
cell's central region. It is found that and are approximately
the same near the sidewall, while at cell center.Comment: 16 pages, 15 figures, submitted to J. Fluid Mec
Mtmr8 is essential for vasculature development in zebrafish embryos
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Embryonic morphogenesis of vascular and muscular systems is tightly coordinated, and a functional cooperation of Mtmr8 with PI3K in actin filament modeling and muscle development has been revealed in zebrafish. Here, we attempt to explore the function of Mtmr8 in vasculature development parallel to its function in muscle development.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>During early stage of somitogenesis, <it>mtmr8 </it>expression was detected in both somitic mesodem and ventral mesoderm. Knockdown of <it>mtmr8 </it>by morpholino impairs arterial endothelial marker expression, and results in endothelial cell reduction and vasculogenesis defects, such as retardation in intersegmental vessel development and interruption of trunk dorsal aorta. Moreover, <it>mtmr8 </it>morphants show loss of arterial endothelial cell identity in dorsal aorta, which is effectively rescued by low concentration of PI3K inhibitor, and by over-expression of <it>dnPKA </it>mRNA or <it>vegf </it>mRNA. Interestingly, <it>mtmr8 </it>expression is up-regulated when zebrafish embryos are treated with specific inhibitor of Hedgehog pathway that abolishes arterial marker expression.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>These data indicate that Mtmr8 is essential for vasculature development in zebrafish embryos, and may play a role in arterial specification through repressing PI3K activity. It is suggested that Mtmr8 should represent a novel element of the Hedgehog/PI3K/VEGF signaling cascade that controls arterial specification.</p
Changes of plasma fibroblast growth factor-21 (FGF-21) in oral glucose tolerance test and effects of metformin on FGF-21 levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus
U wszystkich przeprowadzono
test doustnego obciążenia 75 g glukozy (OGTT). Próbki krwi pobrano w 0., 60.,120. i 180. minucie testu. Osobom z nT2DM
badanych (p < 0,05). Zastosowanie metforminy u osób z nT2DM spowodowało istotne zmniejszenie stężeń glukozy i FGF-21 we wszystkich
(Endokrynol Pol 2013; 64 (3): 220–224)Introduction: The objectives of our study were to investigate whether fibroblast growth factor-21 (FGF-21) is involved in short-term
regulation of glucose and the change of FGF-21 after metformin use in diabetic subjects.
Material and methods: 43 subjects were recruited in the study, including 27 new-onset type 2 diabetes patients (nT2DM). A 75 g oral
glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was administered to them. Blood samples were taken at 0, 60 ,120 and 180 minute of OGTT. nT2DM subjects
were invited for further investigation, metformin was administered in a dose of 1.0 g every day for 1 week.
Results: Plasma FGF-21 changed significantly in the nT2DM group during the OGTT administration but not in the control group. No
gender differences were observed at different time points in FGF-21 levels (p < 0.05). Administration of metformin for nT2DM resulted
in a significant decrease in both glucose and FGF-21 at all OGTT times and in insulin at 60 min and 180 min, indicative of a decrease in
HOMA-IR.
Conclusion: FGF-21 does not seem to be involved in short-term regulation of glycaemia in human subjects, and the change in OGTT
delayed in T2DM. FGF-21 may participate in the processing of metformin, improving glucose and insulin sensitivity.

MiRNA-145 increases therapeutic sensibility to gemcitabine treatment of pancreatic adenocarcinoma cells.
Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is one of the most leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Although recent advances provide various treatment options, pancreatic adenocarcinoma has poor prognosis due to its late diagnosis and ineffective therapeutic multimodality. Gemcitabine is the effective first-line drug in pancreatic adenocarcinoma treatment. However, gemcitabine chemoresistance of pancreatic adenocarcinoma cells has been a major obstacle for limiting its treatment effect. Our study found that p70S6K1 plays an important role in gemcitabine chemoresistence. MiR-145 is a tumor suppressor which directly targets p70S6K1 for inhibiting its expression in pancreatic adenocarcinoma, providing new therapeutic scheme. Our findings revealed a new mechanism underlying gemcitabine chemoresistance in pancreatic adenocarcinoma cells
