    Reliability and validity of the positive mental health literacy scale in Chinese adolescents

    Background and aimMental health literacy (MHL) is not only the necessary knowledge and ability to promote mental health, but also an important determinant of mental health. Traditionally, the MHL Scale focuses on measuring knowledge and beliefs about mental disorders. In China, there are very few scales for assessing positive MHL. The present study aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of a Chinese version of the Positive MHL Scale (MHPK-10) in Chinese adolescents.MethodsChinese adolescents (n = 1,247) completed the MHPK-10 online. The validation included the translation and cultural adaptation of the MHPK-10 original version into Chinese and assessment of its psychometric properties: reliability—test–retest and internal consistency, construct validity and criterion validity.ResultsParticipant’s mean score on the revised positive MHL scale was 3.75 (SD = 0.69) which was a unidimensional scale. The correlation coefficients between each item and the total score were between 0.639 and 0.753. Scale item loadings ranged between 0.635 and 0.760 based on confirmatory factor analysis. Cronbach’s α coefficient of the scale was 0.869, and the test–retest intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.721 (p < 0.01). Criterion validity was assessed by comparing results of the revised MHPK-10 against those of other validated scales and resulting correlations ranged between 0.342 and 0.615.ConclusionThe revised Chinese version of the MHPK-10 has sound reliability and validity and can be used to measure Chinese adolescents’ positive MHL

    Multilayer Photonic Crystal for Spectral Narrowing of Emission

    Multilayer colloidal crystal has been prepared by the layer-by-layer deposition of silica microspheres on a glass slide. Each layer is a slab consisting of a fcc close-packed colloidal arrays. By properly choosing the sizes of spheres, the whole spectral feature of multilayer colloidal crystal can be tuned. Here, we engineered a multilayer superlattice structure with an effective passband (380 nm) between two stop bands (366 nm and 400 nm). This gives a strong narrowing effect on emission spectrum (378 nm). With the stop bands at the shortwave and longwave edges of emission spectrum, the passband in the central wavelength region can be regarded as a strong decrease of suppression effect and enhancement of a narrow wavelength region of emission. The FWHM values of stop band modified emission spectrum were narrowed from 59 nm to 22 nm. The spectral narrowing modification effect of suitably engineered colloidal crystals shows up their importance in potential application as optical filters and lasing devices

    Customized Enhancement of Thermal Sensitivity of Tumors at Different Subcutaneous Depths by Multichannel Lanthanide Nanocomposites

    The photothermal therapeutic effect on tumors located at different subcutaneous depths varies due to the attenuation of light by tissue. Here, based on the wavelength-dependent optical attenuation properties of tissues, the tumor depth is assessed using a multichannel lanthanide nanocomposite. A zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8)-coated nanocomposite is able to deliver high amounts of the hydrophilic heat shock protein 90 inhibitor epigallocatechin gallate through a hydrogen-bonding network formed by the encapsulated highly polarized polyoxometalate guest. It is superior to both bare and PEGylated ZIF-8 for drug delivery. With the assessment of tumor depth and accumulated amount of nanocomposite by fluorescence, an irradiation prescription can be customized to release sufficient HSP90 inhibitor and generate heat for sensitized photothermal treatment of tumors, which not only ensured therapeutic efficacy but also minimized damage to the surrounding tissues

    U-shaped association between serum Klotho and all-cause mortality in US cardiovascular patients: a prospective cohort study

    BackgroundIncreased levels of serum Klotho have been associated with a reduced risk of several cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, limited studies exist on the association between serum Klotho and mortality in patients with CVD.MethodsWe collected data from CVD patients in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2007 to 2016. We linked NHANES data with the National Death Index to determine the survival status of participants. Univariate and multivariable Cox regression models were used to investigate the relationship between serum Klotho levels and mortality in CVD patients. The relationship between serum Klotho quartiles and mortality in CVD patients was visualized using Kaplan-Meier (KM) curves and restricted cubic spine. Finally, subgroup analyses were used to examine the association between serum Klotho and all-cause mortality in different populations.Results1905 patients with CVD were finally enrolled in our study with a mean follow-up of 7.1 years. The average age of the participants was 63.4 years, with 58.40% being male. KM showed that lower Klotho levels were associated with lower survival rates. After adjusting for potential confounders, patients with higher serum Klotho levels had lower all-cause mortality (Q1: 1.00, Q2: 0.58 (0.42–0.80), Q3: 0.69 (0.47–1.01), and Q4:0.64 (0.45–0.92). However, the relationship between serum Klotho levels and cardiovascular mortality was not statistically significant. Dose-response analysis shows a U-shaped relationship between serum Klotho levels and all-cause mortality in patients with CVD (P nonlinear=0.002). Subgroup analysis indicated that participants with a history of hypertension had a higher risk of all-cause mortality in serum Klotho Q4 compared to Q1 (P trend <0.05).ConclusionThe relationship between serum Klotho levels and all-cause mortality in CVD patients exhibits a U-shaped association. The underlying mechanisms of this association need further investigation

    Bioconjugates of Glucose Oxidase and Gold Nanorods Based on Electrostatic Interaction with Enhanced Thermostability

    Bioconjugates made up of an enzyme and gold nanorods (GNRs) were fabricated by electrostatic interactions (layer-by-layer method, LBL) between anionic glucose oxidase (GOD) and positively charged GNRs. The assembled processes were monitored by UV–Vis spectra, zeta potential measurements, and transmission electron microscopy. The enzyme activity assays of the obtained bioconjugates display a relatively enhanced thermostability behavior in contrast with that of free enzyme. Free GOD in solution only retains about 22% of its relative activity at 90 °C. Unexpectedly, the immobilized GOD on GNRs still retains about 39.3% activity after the same treatment. This work will be of significance for the biologic enhancement using other kinds of anisotropic nanostructure and suggests a new way of enhancing enzyme thermostability using anisotropic metal nanomaterials

    Analysis and Research on Energy-Saving Reconstruction of Building Heating System

    A building heating system had high energy consumption and did not meet the requirements of environmental protection, so it was needed to be reformed. After recalculating the heat load, it was found that the heat source, pipe network specification, and radiator area of the original heating system were oversized. After comparing with a gas-fired boiler, the heat source was transformed into the water source heat pump system. The water supply temperature of the water source heat pump was lower than that of the boiler. Generally, it seemed necessary to increase the radiator area. However, after calculation and verification, when the supply and return water temperature was 65/58°C, the system operated continuously and the original pipe network and radiator could still ensure the indoor temperature of 16°C. The total cost of transformation was 11.5 million Chinese Yuan. After analyzing the operation data of the new system, the water source heat pump system could save 82.6% energy compared with the original system and 29.6% cost compared with the central heating system.
