IT-ENABLED BUSINESS INNOVATION: DOES CIO CAPABILITY MATTER? A PERSPECTIVE FROM INSTITUTIONAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP THEORY

    Get PDF
Today IT has evolved from a mere efficiency tool to enabling business innovation and providing strategic value. As the highest level IT leader in organizations, CIO should be largely responsible for the success of IT-enabled business innovation. CIO must possess necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities to lead IT staff, business partners, and even high-level executives in IT-enabled business innovation. However, as IT innovation researchers have just begun to look at business transformation and innovation resulted from the application of new IT, insights on how CIO can leverage IT to enable business innovation are still scant. We aim to address the question of whether and how CIO capability impact on the success of IT-enabled business innovation. Anchoring on the theory of institutional entrepreneurship, we propose a conceptual model describing that CIO’s political savvy, communicative ability, strategic IT and business knowledge have positive impact on the success of ITenabled business innovation, through the mediating role of innovation legitimacy. The findings are expected to provide several theoretical implications for the areas of IT innovation and CIO effectiveness

Compressed Sensing with General Frames via Optimal-dual-based β„“1\ell_1-analysis

Compressed sensing with sparse frame representations is seen to have much greater range of practical applications than that with orthonormal bases. In such settings, one approach to recover the signal is known as β„“1\ell_1-analysis. We expand in this article the performance analysis of this approach by providing a weaker recovery condition than existing results in the literature. Our analysis is also broadly based on general frames and alternative dual frames (as analysis operators). As one application to such a general-dual-based approach and performance analysis, an optimal-dual-based technique is proposed to demonstrate the effectiveness of using alternative dual frames as analysis operators. An iterative algorithm is outlined for solving the optimal-dual-based β„“1\ell_1-analysis problem. The effectiveness of the proposed method and algorithm is demonstrated through several experiments.Comment: 34 pages, 8 figures. To appear in IEEE Transactions on Information Theor

Investigations on the light hadron decays of Zb(10610)Z_b(10610) and Zb(10650)Z_b(10650)

The light hadron decay processes of Zb(10610)/Zb(10650)Z_b(10610)/Z_b(10650) provide us a way to study their nature and decay mechanism. In this work, we evaluate the branching ratios of Zb(10610)/Zb(10650)β†’VPZ_b(10610)/Z_b(10650) \to VP (VV and PP stand for light vector and pseudoscalar mesons, respectively) using an effective Lagrangian approach, in which the contributions of intermediate bottomed meson triangle loops are considered. In our calculations, the Zb(10610)Z_b(10610) and Zb(10650)Z_b(10650) are regarded as BBΛ‰βˆ—+c.c.B\bar{B}^*+c.c. and Bβˆ—BΛ‰βˆ—B^*\bar{B}^* molecular states, respectively. The predicted branching ratios of Zb(10610)β†’VPZ_b(10610)\rightarrow VP are about in the order of 10βˆ’210^{-2}, while the branching ratios of Zb(10650)β†’VPZ_b(10650)\rightarrow VP are in the order of 10βˆ’310^{-3}. Furthermore, the dependence of these ratios between different decay modes of Zb(10610)/Zb(10650)Z_b(10610)/Z_b(10650) on the mixing Ξ·βˆ’Ξ·β€²\eta-\eta^\prime angle ΞΈP\theta_P is investigated, which may be a good quantity for the experiments. It is hoped that the calculations here could be tested by future experiments.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures and 1 tabl

CTM Based Real-Time Queue Length Estimation at Signalized Intersection

Queue length is an important index of the efficiency of urban transport system. The traditional approaches seem insufficient for the estimation of the queue length when the traffic state fluctuates greatly. In this paper, the problem is solved by introducing the Cell Transmission Model, a macroscopic traffic flow, to describe the vehicles aggregation and discharging process at a signalized intersection. To apply the model to urban traffic appropriately, some of its rules were improved accordingly. Besides, we can estimate the density of each cell of the road in a short time interval. We, first, identify the cell, where the tail of the queue is located. Then, we calculate the exact location of the rear of the queue. The models are evaluated by comparing the estimated maximum queue length and average queue length with the results of simulation calibrated by field data and testing of queue tail trajectories. The results show that the proposed model can estimate the maximum and average queue length, as well as the real-time queue length with satisfactory accuracy

Recently, the significance of ship inspections hasbeen increasingly recognized because sea pollution andsafety problems are occurring more and more frequently. However, current ship inspections rely on the experience ofthe workers. Therefore, it is difficult to understand, and hence to improve, the state of ship inspections. The present problemsare that the ship inspection technical support level in China is not balanced, especially as to the current situation with low level, poor technologyin under-developed areas. In this paper, the case technology about the case-based reasoning to the ship inspection is proposed. The methods of normative inspection case representation are discussed. This is considered to be the basis of case-based reasoning. Then the tertiary case structure with the index is defined, in which the K-nearest neighbor method to calculate the similarity between caseswas used so that the ship’s inspection information can be searched effectively. In addition, animproved retrievalstrategy of the nearest neighbor method is introduced. Therefore, in the inspection site, the inspectors can acquire support information by the case bases, and then the new cases are calculated automatically. Further, a ship inspection case managementwereintroduced to improve the stability of the system. By carrying the case-based reasoning into an inspection, an inspector can generate fault information and inspection information simply and easily. Some examples of the organization and retrieval are shown at the end of the paper
