Fully integrated InGaAs/InP single-photon detector module with gigahertz sine wave gating

InGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) working in the regime of GHz clock rates are crucial components for the high-speed quantum key distribution (QKD). We have developed for the first time a compact, stable and user-friendly tabletop InGaAs/InP single-photon detector system operating at a 1.25 GHz gate rate that fully integrates functions for controlling and optimizing SPAD performance. We characterize the key parameters of the detector system and test the long-term stability of the system for continuous operation of 75 hours. The detector system can substantially enhance QKD performance and our present work paves the way for practical high-speed QKD applications.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures. Quantum Manifestations of Graphene Edge Stress and Edge Instability: A First-Principles Study

We have performed first-principles calculations of graphene edge stresses, which display two interesting quantum manifestations absent from the classical interpretation: the armchair edge stress oscillates with a nanoribbon width, and the zigzag edge stress is noticeably reduced by spin polarization. Such quantum stress effects in turn manifest in mechanical edge twisting and warping instability, showing features not captured by empirical potentials or continuum theory. Edge adsorption of H and Stone-Wales reconstruction are shown to provide alternative mechanisms in relieving the edge compression and hence to stabilize the planar edge structure.Comment: 5figure

Study on new method for modal parameters identification of stiffened plate with four clamped edges

In order to accurately and rapidly identify the vibration characteristic parameters of nonlinear stiffened plate structure, Rayleigh-Ritz method is used for modeling. First, the stiffened plate with four edges clamped is divided into plate and stiffeners. The plate is considered to be geometrically nonlinear, and the stiffeners are taken as Euler beams to solve the deformation energy and kinetic energy. Then, natural frequency of stiffened plate is solved by Rayleigh-Ritz method. Finally, stiffened plate structure in the laboratory is selected as the research object, results from Rayleigh - Ritz method calculation are compared with ANSYS and the swept frequency method results. The results show that the solution in this paper can be correct, which lays a good foundation for further nonlinear active control experiment

Improved collaborative filtering algorithm via information transformation

In this paper, we propose a spreading activation approach for collaborative filtering (SA-CF). By using the opinion spreading process, the similarity between any users can be obtained. The algorithm has remarkably higher accuracy than the standard collaborative filtering using the Pearson correlation. Furthermore, we introduce a free parameter β to regulate the contributions of objects to user–user correlations. The numerical results indicate that decreasing the influence of popular objects can further improve the algorithmic accuracy and personality. We argue that a better algorithm should simultaneously require less computation and generate higher accuracy. Accordingly, we further propose an algorithm involving only the top-N similar neighbors for each target user, which has both less computational complexity and higher algorithmic accuracy
