    Maternal immunization with ovalbumin or Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus has opposing effects on FcγRIIb expression on offspring B cells

    Abstract\ud \ud Background\ud Over the last decade, our group has demonstrated that murine preconception immunization with allergens has a protective effect on allergy development in offspring. The murine model used in the present study allowed us to compare allergy induction by ovalbumin (OVA) and dust mite extract from Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Dp).\ud \ud \ud Findings\ud Female mice were immunized with OVA or Dp. Pups from immunized and non-immune mothers were immunized at 3 days old (do) with the same antigen used for the maternal immunization. The offspring were analyzed at 20 do. Preconceptional immunization with OVA or Dp did not increase maternal IgE serum levels, although the immunizations induced an increase in allergen-specific IgG1 Ab levels. Offspring serum analyses revealed that maternal immunization with OVA suppressed IgE production only in offspring immunized with OVA. Both preconception immunization protocols inhibited cellular influx into the airways of immunized offspring compared with controls. Similar frequencies of offspring IgM + B cells were found in the OVA- and Dp-immunized groups compared with their respective control groups. Moreover, preconception immunization with OVA enhanced FcγRIIb expression on OVA-immunized offspring B cells.     O papel do enfermeiro nos cuidados paliativos a pacientes com câncer

    Palliative care is extremely important for the treatment of cancer patients. The nursing professional has an essential role in palliative care, both in the technical aspect and in the human and sensitive aspect. The main objective of this work was to analyze and study the role of nurses in palliative care for cancer patients. The methodology used was the systematic review of the literature, which had 17 articles found in the main scientific bases and platforms: PubMed, LILACS, Google Scholar and Online Nursing Library. Thus, from the analysis and discussion of the results and selected materials, it was possible to conclude that the Nurse has the role of accompanying the patient and their families in all stages of the disease.Os cuidados paliativos são de extrema importância para o tratamento de pacientes com câncer. O profissional de enfermagem possui um papel essencial nos cuidados paliativos, tanto no aspecto técnico quanto no aspecto humano e sensível. O objetivo principal deste trabalho foi analisar e estudar qual o papel do Enfermeiro nos cuidados paliativos a pacientes com câncer. A metodologia utilizada foi a revisão sistemática da literatura, a qual contou com 17 artigos encontrados nas principais bases científicas e plataformas: PubMed, LILACS, Google Acadêmico e Biblioteca Online de Enfermagem. Dessa forma, a partir da análise e da discussão dos resultados e dos materiais selecionados, pôde- se concluir que o Enfermeiro possui o papel de acompanhar o paciente e seus familiares em todas as fases da doença

    Low doses of IgG from atopic individuals can modulate in vitro IFN-γ production by human intra-thymic TCD4 and TCD8 cells: An IVIg comparative approach

    The regulatory effect of allergic responses induced by IgG antibodies on human intra-thymic cells has not been reported in the literature. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible differential effect of purified IgG from atopic and non-atopic individuals on human intra-thymic αβT cell cytokine production. Thymic tissues were obtained from 14 patients who were less than 7 d old. Additionally, blood samples were collected from atopic and non-atopic volunteers. Thymocytes and peripheral blood mononuclear cells were cultured with purified atopic or non-atopic IgG, and intracellular cytokine production was assessed. Purified IgG did not influence the frequency or viability of human intra-thymic αβT cells. Purified non-atopic IgG induced greater IFN-γ production by intra-thymic CD4+CD8+ T cells than did the mock treatment and atopic IgG. A similar effect of purified non-atopic IgG on TCD8 cells was observed compared with the mock treatment. Atopic IgG inhibited IFN-γ and TGF-β production by intra-thymic TCD4 cells. Treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin resulted in intermediate levels of IFN-γ and TGF-β in intra-thymic TCD4 cells compared with treatment with atopic and non-atopic IgG. Peripheral TCD4 cells from non-atopic individuals produced IFN-γ only in response to atopic IgG. This report describes novel evidence revealing that IgG from atopic individuals may influence intracellular IFN-γ production by intra-thymic αβT cells in a manner that may favor allergy development

    Preconception allergen sensitization can induce B10 cells in offspring: a potential main role for maternal IgG

    Abstract Background The mechanisms through which allergies can be inhibited after preconception immunization with allergens are not fully understood. We aimed to evaluate whether maternal immunization can induce a regulatory B (B10) cell population in offspring in concert with allergy inhibition. Methods C57BL/6 females were or were not immunized with OVA and were mated with normal WT males. Their offspring were evaluated at 3 days of age or 20 days after neonatal immunization. Human peripheral B cells from atopic and non-atopic individuals were also evaluated. Results Preconception OVA immunization induced B10 cells in offspring, and IL-10 production appeared to be critical for FcγRIIB upregulation in offspring B cells. Murine and human IL-10-producing B cells responded in vitro to IgG according to the atopic repertoire of the cells. Conclusions Our results reveal that maternal immunization induces allergen-specific B10 cells in offspring and a pivotal role for the IgG repertoire in IL-10 production by murine and human B cells

    NEOTROPICAL ALIEN MAMMALS: a data set of occurrence and abundance of alien mammals in the Neotropics

    Biological invasion is one of the main threats to native biodiversity. For a species to become invasive, it must be voluntarily or involuntarily introduced by humans into a nonnative habitat. Mammals were among first taxa to be introduced worldwide for game, meat, and labor, yet the number of species introduced in the Neotropics remains unknown. In this data set, we make available occurrence and abundance data on mammal species that (1) transposed a geographical barrier and (2) were voluntarily or involuntarily introduced by humans into the Neotropics. Our data set is composed of 73,738 historical and current georeferenced records on alien mammal species of which around 96% correspond to occurrence data on 77 species belonging to eight orders and 26 families. Data cover 26 continental countries in the Neotropics, ranging from Mexico and its frontier regions (southern Florida and coastal-central Florida in the southeast United States) to Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Uruguay, and the 13 countries of Caribbean islands. Our data set also includes neotropical species (e.g., Callithrix sp., Myocastor coypus, Nasua nasua) considered alien in particular areas of Neotropics. The most numerous species in terms of records are from Bos sp. (n = 37,782), Sus scrofa (n = 6,730), and Canis familiaris (n = 10,084); 17 species were represented by only one record (e.g., Syncerus caffer, Cervus timorensis, Cervus unicolor, Canis latrans). Primates have the highest number of species in the data set (n = 20 species), partly because of uncertainties regarding taxonomic identification of the genera Callithrix, which includes the species Callithrix aurita, Callithrix flaviceps, Callithrix geoffroyi, Callithrix jacchus, Callithrix kuhlii, Callithrix penicillata, and their hybrids. This unique data set will be a valuable source of information on invasion risk assessments, biodiversity redistribution and conservation-related research. There are no copyright restrictions.
