Reliable Multi-label Classification: Prediction with Partial Abstention

In contrast to conventional (single-label) classification, the setting of multilabel classification (MLC) allows an instance to belong to several classes simultaneously. Thus, instead of selecting a single class label, predictions take the form of a subset of all labels. In this paper, we study an extension of the setting of MLC, in which the learner is allowed to partially abstain from a prediction, that is, to deliver predictions on some but not necessarily all class labels. We propose a formalization of MLC with abstention in terms of a generalized loss minimization problem and present first results for the case of the Hamming loss, rank loss, and F-measure, both theoretical and experimental.Comment: 19 pages, 12 figure

Asymptotic integration of linear differential-algebraic equations

This paper is concerned with the asymptotic behavior of solutions of linear differential-algebraic equations with asymptotically constant coefficients. Some results of asymptotic integration which are well known for ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are extended to differential-algebraic equations (DAEs)

A Cyber-HIL for Investigating Control Systems in Ship Cyber Physical Systems under Communication Issues and Cyber Attacks

This paper presents a novel Cyber-Hardware-in-the-Loop (Cyber-HIL) platform for assessing control operation in ship cyber-physical systems. The proposed platform employs cutting-edge technologies, including Docker containers, real-time simulator OPAL−RTOPAL-RT, and network emulator ns3ns3, to create a secure and controlled testing and deployment environment for investigating the potential impact of cyber attack threats on ship control systems. Real-time experiments were conducted using an advanced load-shedding controller as a control object in both synchronous and asynchronous manners, showcasing the platform's versatility and effectiveness in identifying vulnerabilities and improving overall Ship Cyber Physical System (SCPS) security. Furthermore, the performance of the load-shedding controller under cyber attacks was evaluated by conducting tests with man-in-the-middle (MITM) and denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. These attacks were implemented on the communication channels between the controller and the simulated ship system, emulating real-world scenarios. The proposed Cyber-HIL platform provides a comprehensive and effective approach to test and validate the security of ship control systems in the face of cyber threats.Comment: 10 pages, 16 figures, journal under revie

Synthesis and characterization of polythiophenes from hydrazone derivatives sidegroups

    Get PDF
Polythiophenes with various substituted hydrazone side groups were synthesized using a chemical oxidative coupling reaction. Analyses of IR and NMR spectra confirmed the expected structure of new synthesized polymers and confirmed suitability of the suggested synthetic route. Surface properties, morphology and thermal stability of the prepared polymers were studied by SEM and TGA methods. Two derivatives were found to have a good solubility in several water-miscible solvents. They can be used as active materials in electrochromic and electronic devices

The Impact of Migration and Remittance on Household Welfare: Evidence from Vietnam

    Get PDF
This paper examines the pattern and the impact of migration and remittances on household welfare in Vietnam using fixed-effects regressions and panel data from Vietnam Household Living Standard Surveys 2010 and 2012. Overall, the effect of migration as well as remittances on employment of remaining members on home households is small. People in households with migration and remittances tend to work less than people in other households. There is no evidence that migration and remittances can help household members to work more on non-farm activities. Remittances, especially international remittances help receiving households increase per capita income and per capita expenditure. Although migration leads to an increase in remittances, it also leads to a reduction in income earned by migrants if they had not migrated. However, per capita consumption expenditure of migrant-sending households increases because of a reduction in household siz

Practices of togetherness : Jacek KuroƄ, affective community and political opposition in late socialist Poland (1964-1982)

Defence date: 27 September 2019Examining Board: Prof. Dr. Pavel Koláƙ, UniversitĂ€t Konstanz/European University Institute (Supervisor); Prof. Dr. Laura Downs, European University Institute; Prof. Dr. MaƂgorzata Mazurek, Columbia University; Dr. Michal Kopeček, Imre KertĂ©sz Kolleg, Jena/Charles UniversityTwo themes run through the most prominent historical narratives of the political opposition in the Polish People’s Republic – that of intellectuals formulating a reasonable critique of state oppression and that of striking workers. Zooming in on the complex dynamics that enabled the emergence of political mobilization within the milieu around Jacek Kuron (1934-2004) engenders a multi-layered story of thinking and doing the seemingly impossible in late socialist Poland. This story involves visions and practices of political opposition ranging from resisting through survival via self-organized networks of everyday care and support to political actions that more easily fit established frames of interpreting political activism. At the heart of the life and legacy of Kuron, one of the most prominent members of political opposition and a co-founder of the Workers’ Defence Committee (KOR), were thus communal bonds of friendships and care. The case of Kuron and his milieu illuminates how the political opposition came with its own rituals, vocabulary, political passions, personal emotional engagements, and bonds of solidarity, all of which encompassed a diverse repertoire of contestation such as bypassing censorship, cooking for those in need, and hunger striking. Understanding the language and discourse of the political opposition requires a knowledge of how and why certain vocabularies and practices were invoked and how they fit together. In mapping the emotional, intellectual and social world of the political opposition, without separating these strands from one another, the goal of this thesis to broaden our understanding of extra-institutional politics and modes of resistance. To recast the framework within which we examine grassroots political mobilization involves challenging what counts as political opposition in late socialist Poland and what drives and sustains it. This thesis does so by highlighting the role of affective community in creating a grammar of oppositional practices of togetherness and imagining a more just social order.Parts of the Introduction of the PhD thesis draw upon an earlier version published as an article 'Listening to solidarity' (2016) in the journal 'History workshop journal

ELECTROSPRAY METHOD: PROCESSING PARAMETERS INFLUENCE ON MORPHOLOGY AND SIZE OF PCL PARTICLES

The polymeric microparticles using electrospray technique have been used effectively as the drug carrier, whereby controlled release of drug. The electrosprayed particles morphology and size dictated the degradation of polymer matrix, therefore they influenced the release profile from drug loaded microparticles. The effects of electrospray processing parameters (flow rate, applied voltage and distance from the tip of needle to collector) on morphology and size of polycaprolactone (PCL) particles were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and ImageJ software. In this research, the PCL solution was prepared by dissolving PCL in Dichloromethane at 4.5 % solution. In addition, processing parameters such as the flow rate (0.5 mL/h, 1 mL/h, 1.5 mL/h, 2 mL/h and 4 mL/h), the applied voltage (15 kV, 18 kV and 24 kV) and the collecting distance (15 cm, 20 cm, and 25 cm) were changed to examine the effects of them on size and morphology of PCL particles. The results indicated that at the suitable electrospraying parameters (18 kV, 1.5 mL/h, 20–25 cm), microparticles have obtained the uniform and stable morphology while at higher flow rate (2 mL/h and 4 mL/h), the particles were deformed and had bigger size.
