Thesis (M.S.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2002This thesis focuses on mapping and predicting ionospheric effects to communication systems in northern high latitude areas using GPS (Global Positioning System). The monitoring of ionospheric scintillation and TEC (Total Electron Content) over Fairbanks, Alaska has been achieved by using the GSV4004 GPS Ionospheric Scintillation and TEC Monitor (GISTM), which has been installed on the roof of Duckering Building at UAF since September 2001. The algorithm of acquiring equivalent vertical TEC above Fairbanks from various satellite measurements is given in detail. Both an empirical ionosphere model, IRI, and a physics-based ionosphere model, PIM, are used to verify the TEC real field measurement. Another signal estimation method, BP neural network, is used to forecast the TEC short-term variation, which can give better performance than the other two. The relationships among TEC, amplitude scintillation and phase scintillation are analyzed. Multipath effects and the impact to GPS performance from ionospheric scintillation are discussed. Lastly the TEC and scintillation index mapping around Fairbanks is presented

Study on the Influence of CPAs’ Individual Characteristics on Integrity Conduct

By constructing a behaviour selection model, the paper relies on the method of NetLogo simulation for simulation experiments. We study the influence of CPA’s individual characteristics on integrity conduct from three aspects of independence, industry specialization and tenure. The results of the study found that independence, industry specialization and tenure will have an impact on the integrity conduct. Besides, with the improvement of independence, industry specialization and tenure, their integrity conduct presents an inverted U type

The impact from social capital of university on the cultivation of student quality

students' quality is the core competitiveness of universities, and the cultivation of students' quality not only depends on the school's teaching and research level, but also on the university’s social capital. In this paper, Social capital of university is classified into structural social capital, relation social capital and cognitive social capital. These points are put forward which structural social capital influences the cultivation of student by providing social practice opportunity, relationship social capital affecting it by these activities organized by student organization, cognitive social capital influencing it through the culture of universities

High-Temperature Performance of Polymer-Modified Asphalt Mixes: Preliminary Evaluation of the Usefulness of Standard Technical Index in Polymer-Modified Asphalt.

The objectives of this study are to evaluate the high-temperature performance of polymer-modified asphalt and asphalt mixtures, and to investigate if the standard technical indexes are useful in the performance evaluation of the polymer-modified asphalt. There are four typically used polymer-modified asphalt types employed in the study. The standard high-temperature rheological test, such as the temperature sweep test, was used to express the high-temperature performance of the polymer-modified asphalt. Also, considering the non-Newtonian fluid properties of the polymer-modified asphalt, the multiple stress creep recovery (MSCR) and zero-shear viscosity (ZSV) tests were employed for the characterizations. Besides, based on the mixture design of SMA-13, the high temperature of the polymer-modified asphalt mixture was evaluated via Marshall stability and rutting tests. The test results concluded that the ranking of the four kinds of polymer-modified asphalt was different in various laboratory tests. The TB-APAO has the best technical indexes in MSCR and ZSV tests, while the WTR-APAO performed best in the temperature sweep test. In addition, the correlation between the polymer-modified asphalt and the asphalt mixture was very poor. Thus, the present standard technical indexes for the profoundly polymer-modified asphalt mixtures are no longer suitable
