The role of exploration/exploitation knowledge process in collaborative knowledge creation
There is increasing research on knowledge networks as sources to acquire and access knowledge. While this literature mainly has focused on the contribution of network structure characteristics, existing reviews show that the current literature has produced seemingly contradictory results and a growing body of research highlights the need for contingency approaches. Based on a thorough literature review, this research focused on knowledge process as one of the contingencies; this has also been considered as a measure for the knowledge exploration process. Hence two hypotheses were formulated and tested by studying the patent co-authorship networks of biotechnology firms in Victoria, Australia. Using social network analysis and moderated multiple regressions, our research positively confirmed the relationship between knowledge processes and network structure. Also based on the interaction analysis, two interesting inter-relations are discussed. Finally the implications of the findings and the potential to contribute to understanding prior contradictory results are discussed

Knowledge creation through diverse knowledge networks
Inter-organizational knowledge networks have been considered vital for the knowledge economy, particularly for small and medium size enterprises in knowledge-based industries, since knowledge creation often happens within those networks. Hence an interesting question to explore is: how do knowledge networks serve to contribute to knowledge creation? Beyond the role of network structure, which has dominated the knowledge network literature, our research highlights the need for the consideration of other factors like knowledge content. First by reviewing the literature, we propose a hypothesis that predicts a positive association of content and knowledge creation. Then, focusing on patent co-authorship networks of the biotechnology industry in Victoria, this research used an explanatory multiple case study approach to test the formulated hypothesis. By introducing new emergent constructs, the results provide more insight on the positive association of knowledge content and knowledge creation. Based on the emergent constructs, rival hypotheses are also developed for further researc
Controllable diffusion of cold atoms in a harmonically driven and tilted optical lattice: Decoherence by spontaneous emission
We have studied some transport properties of cold atoms in an accelerated
optical lattice in the presence of decohering effects due to spontaneous
emission. One new feature added is the effect of an external AC drive. As a
result we obtain a tunable diffusion coefficient and it's nonlinear enhancement
with increasing drive amplitude. We report an interesting maximum diffusion
condition.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures, revised versio
Design Within Complex Environments: Collaborative Engineering in the Aerospace Industry
The design and the industrialization of an aircraft, a major component, or
an aerostructure is a complex process. An aircraft like the Airbus A400M is composed
of about 700,000 parts (excluding standard parts). The parts are assembled
into aerostructures and major components, which are designed and manufactured in
several countries all over the world. The introduction of new Product Lifecycle
Management (PLM) methodologies, procedures and tools, and the need to reduce
time-to-market, led Airbus Military to pursue new working methods to deal with
complexity. Collaborative Engineering promotes teamwork to develop product, processes
and resources from the conceptual phase to the start of the serial production.
This paper introduces the main concepts of Collaborative Engineering as a new
methodology, procedures and tools to design and develop an aircraft, as Airbus
Military is implementing. To make a Proof of Concept (PoC), a pilot project,
CALIPSOneo, was launched to support the functional and industrial design process
of a medium size aerostructure. The aim is to implement the industrial Digital
Mock-Up (iDMU) concept and its exploitation to create shop fl oor documentation
Termination Casts: A Flexible Approach to Termination with General Recursion
This paper proposes a type-and-effect system called Teqt, which distinguishes
terminating terms and total functions from possibly diverging terms and partial
functions, for a lambda calculus with general recursion and equality types. The
central idea is to include a primitive type-form "Terminates t", expressing
that term t is terminating; and then allow terms t to be coerced from possibly
diverging to total, using a proof of Terminates t. We call such coercions
termination casts, and show how to implement terminating recursion using them.
For the meta-theory of the system, we describe a translation from Teqt to a
logical theory of termination for general recursive, simply typed functions.
Every typing judgment of Teqt is translated to a theorem expressing the
appropriate termination property of the computational part of the Teqt term.Comment: In Proceedings PAR 2010, arXiv:1012.455
