Lunar rated fasteners

A catalog of fasteners is presented for a variety of applications to be used in a lunar environment. The fastening applications targeted include: covers, panels, hatches, bearings, wheels, gears, pulleys, anchors for the lunar surface and structural fasteners (general duty preloadable). The robotic installation and removal of each fastener is presented along with a discussion of failure modes. Structural performance data is tabulated for various configurations. Potential materials for the space environment are presented along with recommendations of appropriate solid film lubricants. Three original fastener designs were found suitable for the lunar environment. A structural analysis is presented for each original design

Detrimental Student Behaviors as Perceived by Elementary Teachers

The purpose of the is study was to identify a common core of behaviors as perceived by elementary teachers who work with socially and emotionally disordered (S-ED) students. Fifty elementary teachers were randomly selected from a pool of 525 teachers to participate by giving perceptions. The teachers rank ordered ten general, ten socialization, and ten communication asocial behaviors in terms of these behaviors\u27 detrimental effect on instruction. The behaviors ranked as the most detrimental 9the common core) were those describing active and/or aggressive actions. When S-ED students exhibit active and aggressive behaviors, elementary teachers perceive them to be behaving in a manner detrimental to instruction

Antecedents of Attachment Disorganization across the First Year: Interactions among Child and Parent Variables

Disorganized attachmentis seen as reflecting an infant’s lack of strategyfor coping with the stress of the Strange Situation procedure (SSP; Ainsworth et al., 1978) The identification of disorganized attachment by Main and Solomon (1986) generated a large body of research into its antecedents and consequences. Despite these advances, however, 1)few studies have employed a prospective longitudinal designto clarify antecedents of disorganization, and 2)most research has focused on predicting disorganization from single risk factors, rarely investigating possible interactions among child and parent or environmental variables. The current study investigated the development of disorganized attachment across the first year from a prospective longitudinal perspectivefrom 3 –13 months. A primary goal was to employ a transactional modelto predict disorganization at the end of the first year, with a focus on interactions among a variety of child (gender, stressful child characteristics) and parent variables (parenting stress, maternal behaviour, child care)

Behavioural and Affective Precursors to Disorganized Attachment in the Still-face Procedure at 4-months

We explored whether disorganization in the SSP at 13-months could be predicted from infant affect and behaviour in the SFP at 4- months. We hypothesized that infants in disorganized relationships would have the most difficulty regulating their affect and behaviour in the SFP. Infants in disorganized relationships were expected to display greater negativity (e.g., crying, negative vocalizations, stress indicators such as spitting up) throughout the SFP, compared to those in organized relationships

The 606 at Three: Trends in Use of Chicago\u27s Elevated Rail-Trail

The 606, Chicago’s 2.7-mile, $95 million trail, is the only elevated, multiuse trail in the US. Opened to use in June 2015 after more than 15 years in planning and development, The 606 was designed to provide residents of nearby neighborhoods having major open space deficits with a safe, attractive place for recreation, fitness, commuting, and other purposes. Above all, The 606 was designed to be used, incorporating features to address concerns of local residents and facilitate walking, jogging, bicycling, and other activities. To better understand its use, we studied trends and patterns in trail traffic during the first three full years of operation (2016-2018). Based on analyses of counts taken with infrared sensors at two locations along the trail, our data show that, while The 606 is heavily used, total use declined in both 2017 and 2018. Cumulative trail traffic volume on the western, less affluent end of the trail declined 16.1% from 1.2 million in 2016 to just over 1 million in 2018. Cumulative volume on the eastern, more affluent end of the trail declined 11.9% from nearly 1.4 million in 2016 to just over 1.2 million in 2018. Despite these declines, patterns of use have remained consistent, with much higher use in summer and “shoulder” seasons than in winter, higher use on weekends than weekdays, and different hourly patterns on weekends than weekdays. A statistical model shows that approximately 78% of the variation in daily use is associated with variation in weather and day-of-week. We hypothesize that the declines in use could be associated with differences in weather patterns over the years, congestion on the trail during peak periods of use, a novelty effect that has worn off over time, or changes user perceptions and preferences, perhaps associated with the resource. Research strategies to test these hypotheses are outlined
