CP Violation in Mixing
The existence of mixing at a detectable level requires
new physics, which effectively yields a superweak interaction.
In general this interaction may involve significant CP violation. For small
values of the mixing it may be much easier to detect the CP-violating part of

Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov Model and Simulation of Attractive and Repulsive Bose-Einstein Condensates
We describe a model of dynamic Bose-Einstein condensates near a Feshbach
resonance that is computationally feasible under assumptions of spherical or
cylindrical symmetry. Simulations in spherical symmetry approximate the
experimentally measured time to collapse of an unstably attractive condensate
only when the molecular binding energy in the model is correct, demonstrating
that the quantum fluctuations and atom-molecule pairing included in the model
are the dominant mechanisms during collapse. Simulations of condensates with
repulsive interactions find some quantitative disagreement, suggesting that
pairing and quantum fluctuations are not the only significant factors for
condensate loss or burst formation. Inclusion of three-body recombination was
found to be inconsequential in all of our simulations, though we do not
consider recent experiments [1] conducted at higher densities
Scintillation in the Circinus Galaxy water megamasers
We present observations of the 22 GHz water vapor megamasers in the Circinus
galaxy made with the Tidbinbilla 70m telescope. These observations confirm the
rapid variability seen earlier by Greenhill et al (1997). We show that this
rapid variability can be explained by interstellar scintillation, based on what
is now known of the interstellar scintillation seen in a significant number of
flat spectrum AGN. The observed variability cannot be fully described by a
simple model of either weak or diffractive scintillation.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures. AJ accepte
First Direct Double-Beta Decay Q-value Measurement of 82Se in Support of Understanding the Nature of the Neutrino
In anticipation of results from current and future double-beta decay studies,
we report a measurement resulting in a 82Se double-beta decay Q-value of
2997.9(3) keV, an order of magnitude more precise than the currently accepted
value. We also present preliminary results of a calculation of the 82Se
neutrinoless double-beta decay nuclear matrix element that corrects in part for
the small size of the shell model single-particle space. The results of this
work are important for designing next generation double-beta decay experiments

VLBA Imaging of the OH Maser in IIIZw35
We present a parsec-scale image of the OH maser in the nucleus of the active
galaxy IIIZw35, made using the Very Long Baseline Array at a wavelength of 18
cm. We detected two distinct components, with a projected separation of 50 pc
(for D=110 Mpc) and a separation in Doppler velocity of 70 km/s, which contain
50% of the total maser flux. Velocity gradients within these components could
indicate rotation of clouds with binding mass densities of ~7000 solar masses
per cubic parsec, or total masses of more than 500,000 solar masses. Emission
in the 1665-MHz OH line is roughly coincident in position with that in the
1667-MHz line, although the lines peak at different Doppler velocities. We
detected no 18 cm continuum emission; our upper limit implies a peak apparent
optical depth greater than 3.4, assuming the maser is an unsaturated amplifier

Implementation of a patient satisfaction survey in the Pacific University Family Vision Center
Patient satisfaction surveys are a key outcome indicator of quality healthcare delivery. One of the goals in optometric educational systems is to teach interns to provide quality healthcare. The purpose of this study was to design, implement and evaluate a patient satisfaction survey in the Pacific University Family Vision Center. The survey would specifically benefit the intern by measuring and providing valuable feedback in regards to the individual intern\u27s efficiency, professionalism, courtesy and communication skills. The card was also designed to be short, straightforward, and easy to fill out. The results showed a 46% return rate, with a majority of the responses indicating a high level of patient satisfaction. Future implementation of the patient satisfaction survey is recommended in the clinics
Binary-Induced Gravitational Collapse: A Trivial Example
We present a simple model illustrating how a highly relativistic, compact
object which is stable in isolation can be driven dynamically unstable by the
tidal field of a binary companion. Our compact object consists of a
test-particle in a relativistic orbit about a black hole; the binary companion
is a distant point mass. Our example is presented in light of mounting
theoretical opposition to the possibility that sufficiently massive, binary
neutron stars inspiraling from large distance can collapse to form black holes
prior to merger. Our strong-field model suggests that first order
post-Newtonian treatments of binaries, and stability analyses of binary
equilibria based on orbit-averaged, mean gravitational fields, may not be

Ethical and compliance-competence evaluation: a key element of sound corporate governance
Motivated by the ongoing post-Enron refocusing on corporate governance and the shift by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in the UK to promoting compliance- competence within the financial services sector, this paper demonstrates how template analysis can be used as a tool for evaluating compliance-competence. Focusing on the ethical dimension of compliance-competence, we illustrate how this can be subjectively appraised. We propose that this evaluation technique could be utilised as a starting point in informing senior management of corporate governance issues and be used to monitor and demonstrate key compliance and ethical aspects of an institution to external stakeholders and regulators
