    An Investigation of Free Product Sampling and Rating Bias in E-Commerce

    Free product sampling has increasingly become a popular promotional strategy, and served as a new mechanism of product review generation in e-commerce. We empirically analyze how a product’s engagement in free product sampling affects the product’s review rating, and also examine important contingent factors of product pricing and product popularity. Using a rich data set from Taobao.com and multiple identification strategies and estimation methods, we find that engaging in free product sampling increases product rating by 1.1%. We argue that it is consumers’ reciprocal behavior of giving higher ratings as a return to retailers’ beneficial actions that causes rating bias. We further find that the bias would be larger with higher original price, but smaller with higher price discount and higher product popularity. Our empirical findings provide important contributions to the literature on product sampling and word-of-mouth, and offer critical managerial implications to online retailers, rating system designers, and consumers

    We present preliminary results of a study on the non-thermal phase structure of the (1+1) dimensional massive Thirring model, employing the method of matrix product states.     Functional properties of roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) seed and its application as bakery product

    Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) seed is a valuable food resource as it has an excellent source of dietary fibre. Therefore, this study examined the functional properties of roselle seeds. Replacement of cookie flour with roselle seed powder at levels of 0–30 % was investigated for its effect on functional and nutritional properties of cookies. Among the four formulations cookies, the most preferred by panelists was 20 % roselle seed powder cookie (F3), followed by 10 % roselle seed powder cookie (F2) and 30 % roselle seed powder cookie (F4). The least preferred formulation among all was control cookie (F1). Cookie with 20 % roselle seed powder added showed higher content of total dietary fibre (5.6 g/100 g) as compared with control cookie (0.90 g/100 g). Besides that, cookies incorporated with roselle seed powder exhibited improved antioxidant properties. Thus, roselle seed powder can be used as a dietary fibre source and developed as a functional ingredient in food products

    With the boom of Internet, Internet has become one of the consumers’ online shopping channels. However, there is different in online shopping situation is because of consumers in different cultures and countries have different online shopping behavior is worth to discuss. This study is to explore the Internet users’ online shopping situation in developing country, Malaysia, and 118 questionnaire respondents were collected. Statistical analysis software SPSS 17.0 and AMOS 6.0 were used to analyze the impact on e-service quality, satisfaction, trust, and purchase intention. The model fit of this study was in an acceptable level, and this indicates that the theoretical model of this study supports the description of e-service quality for e-retailers that online shopping situation will be effected by trust and satisfaction. The result of this study will be available for those who interested in developing a transnational e-retailer as a reference, as well as academic research on cross-cultural comparative analysis

    Genetic Analysis of Seven Patients with Inherited Ichthyosis and Nagashima-Type Palmoplantar Keratoderma

    Inherited ichthyosis comprises a series of heterogeneous dermal conditions; it mainly manifests as widespread hyperkeratosis, xerosis and scaling of the skin. At times, overlapping symptoms require differential diagnosis between ichthyosis and several other similar disorders. The present study reports seven patients with confirmed or suspected to be associated with ichthyosis by conducting a thorough clinical and genetic investigation. Genetic testing was conducted using whole-exome sequencing, with Sanger sequencing as the validation method. The MEGA7 program was used to analyze the conservation of amino acid residues affected by the detected missense variants. The enrolled patients exhibited ichthyosis-like but distinct clinical manifestations. Genetic analysis identified diagnostic variations in the FLG, STS, KRT10 and SERPINB7 genes and clarified the carrying status of each variant in the respective family members. The two residues affected by the detected missense variants remained conserved across multiple species. Of note, the two variants, namely STS: c.452C\u3eT(p.P151L) and c.647_650del(p.L216fs) are novel. In conclusion, a clear genetic differential diagnosis was made for the enrolled ichthyosis-associated patients; the study findings also extended the mutation spectrum of ichthyosis and provided solid evidence for the counseling of the affected families

    Phase structure and real-time dynamics of the massive Thirring model in 1+1 dimensions using the tensor-network method

    We present concluding results from our study for zero-temperature phase structure of the massive Thirring model in 1+1 dimensions with staggered regularisation. Employing the method of matrix product states, several quantities, including two types of correlators, are investigated, leading to numerical evidence of a Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless phase transition. Objective: Develop a urine test using a panel of select genetic and epigenetic markers for the early detection of primary and recurrent HCC. Introduction: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or liver cancer is an aggressive disease and one of the fastest growing cancers by incidence in the United States. Early detection is the key for effective treatment of HCC as the 5-year survival rate is 26% in early stage HCC as compared to only 2% when found after spreading to distant organs.
