Healthcare Information and the Utilization of Pap-smear Testing amongst Taiwanese Women

This study is to investigate the determinants of healthcare information amongst women in Taiwan aged between 25 and 69 years, and the association with cervical cancer screening.A two-stage estimation model was adopted for this investigation. In the first stage, the determinants of healthcare information were estimated by the OLS method, with the predicted values of the healthcare information then being linked to the decision to undergo Pap-smear testing. The nationwide survey dataset was obtained from the 2002‘Health Promotion of Knowledge, Attitudes and Practice' (HPKAP) in Taiwan, provided by the Bureau of Health Promotion. A total of 9,106 individuals were included in the analysis. The results reveal that the variations in the level of healthcare information are an important contributory factor to the utilization of cervical cancer screening in Taiwan. Therefore, in addition to providing free screening under the NHI, it is important for the healthcare authorities to place greater effort into strengthening the knowledge and information on cervical cancer screening and Pap-smear testing, for those who are currently less informed, so as to enhance the overall efficiency of the screening program.Health information; Pap-smear testing; Cervical cancer; National Health Insurance; Taiwan

A Mobile Learning Support System for Ubiquitous Learning Environments

AbstractThis paper proposes a Mobile Learning Support System (MLSS) which enables students to access learning materials by utilizing 2D barcodes and GPS technology. As the pilot system of ubiquitous learning, we used camera-equipped mobile phones and 2D barcode tags to obtain learning information from online websites. By installing the MLSS on to their mobile phones, students can scan the tag attached to the corresponding object to display related multimedia materials on the screen of mobile phones. Furthermore, MLSS also applies GPS technology to develop a location-aware environment for students. GPS technology is used to detect the students’ location and identify which 2D barcode tags are in their proximity. Therefore, this paper provides the opportunity to develop for developers create ubiquitous learning environments that combine real-world and digital world resources

Providing competecy: based education for industry and its effect on classroom education

This paper is set upon the scenario of a synergy from two leading technical education institutions in their joining exercise of providing an industry-oriented curriculum for a university level degree course. A course model of Pro-Trainer One is devised to foster this initiative at the first evaluation year in which the result was demanded to be effective. The strategy of developing material toward this exercise is demonstrated and the evaluation of this synergy is also examined. The newly established Taishan Training University was meant to become a model in which prospective collaboration among many institutions can follow

Sexual health care for women with dyspareunia

AbstractFemale dyspareunia is a serious impairment with a prevalence of up to 39.5%, imposing a significant burden on women’s health, relationship, and quality of life. Because the causes of female dyspareunia are associated with multiple biological, medical, psychological, sociocultural, and interpersonal dimensions, all members of the health team should help fill this gap in the total care of the patient. The nurse is an ideal member of the health team to counsel patients in the sensitive and highly charged area of human sexuality. The purpose of this article was to explore the essential components of female dyspareunia from nursing care perspective to help women suffering from dyspareunia. The article provides a set of tools, including description and clinical presentation, obtaining a history and clinical data for the evaluation of dyspareunia, and a counseling tool of the Permission, Limited Information, Specific Suggestions, and Intensive Therapy model; suggestions are also provided for health care professionals during the treatment process

Hydrodynamical Simulations of the Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 1097

NGC 1097 is a nearby barred spiral galaxy believed to be interacting with the elliptical galaxy NGC 1097A located to its northwest. It hosts a Seyfert 1 nucleus surrounded by a circumnuclear starburst ring. Two straight dust lanes connected to the ring extend almost continuously out to the bar. The other ends of the dust lanes attach to two main spiral arms. To provide a physical understanding of its structural and kinematical properties, two-dimensional hydrodynamical simulations have been carried out. Numerical calculations reveal that many features of the gas morphology and kinematics can be reproduced provided that the gas flow is governed by a gravitational potential associated with a slowly rotating strong bar. By including the self-gravity of the gas disk in our calculation, we have found the starburst ring to be gravitationally unstable which is consistent with the observation in \citet{hsieh11}. Our simulations show that the gas inflow rate is 0.17 M_\sun yr$^{-1}$ into the region within the starburst ring even after its formation, leading to the coexistence of both a nuclear ring and a circumnuclear disk.Comment: 32 pages, 14 figures, 1 table, accepted for publication in the Ap

How E-Servqual Affects Customer\u27s Online Purchase Intention?

With the boom of Internet, Internet has become one of the consumers’ online shopping channels. However, there is different in online shopping situation is because of consumers in different cultures and countries have different online shopping behavior is worth to discuss. This study is to explore the Internet users’ online shopping situation in developing country, Malaysia, and 118 questionnaire respondents were collected. Statistical analysis software SPSS 17.0 and AMOS 6.0 were used to analyze the impact on e-service quality, satisfaction, trust, and purchase intention. The model fit of this study was in an acceptable level, and this indicates that the theoretical model of this study supports the description of e-service quality for e-retailers that online shopping situation will be effected by trust and satisfaction. The result of this study will be available for those who interested in developing a transnational e-retailer as a reference, as well as academic research on cross-cultural comparative analysis

Investigation of Landslides and Debris Flows in Tachia Watershed Between Maan Dam and Techi Dam

The Chi-Chi earthquake and subsequent typhoon events induced severe landslides and debris flows in the watershed of Tachia river. It inflicted severe damage to the power generation facilities and highway links. For the rehabilitation planning, quantitative assessment of landslides, debris flows and river deposits were conducted by using aerial photos and satellite images obtained at six stages of earthquake and typhoon events. The future trends of landslide and debris flow were also investigated by using empirical models. The long-term deposition or scouring was also conducted by numerical simulation. The results show that over 50,000,000 to 70,000,000m3 of sliding volume were induced in the Chi-Chi earthquake and subsequent typhoon events during 1999 to 2005. By conservative estimation, 60% of the debris still remain in the watershed, which will cause silting of the main river channel in the future. The deposition in the main river channel will increase with decreasing rate in the future, and river channel scouring is not expected to occur in the future 20 to 30 years
