Engineering research is bases on experiments that give answers how different influential process factors can impact an outcome. Therefore, the research plot has to be designed in order to capture a valid analysis of the results. Many research project use research methodologies as a help to reach the answers in a technical point of view and to determinate the laws of the controlled input variables on the experimental outcome. This paper will show a realistic usage of the response surface methodology with an CCD experimental plan for 2 influence factors on a welding example using FCAW welding process in order to investigate the hydrogen input and the critical implant stress upon changing the heat input and preheat temperature and to define the weldability of API 5L X80 steel welds

This article was intended to reconstruct the peculiarities of the Mostarā€™s musical culture in the first half of the 20th century, its species, starting points and meaning in the continuity, emphasizing the institutional organized musical practice and its connection with larger social context. The approach that was imposed by purpose of research includes the presentation of the musical reality whithin the cultural and political history of the determinated period, whose result in the larger part it was. In the field of the autonomous, music until the middle of 20.th century almost it has not existed, because it has been connecting functionally with the kindes of the conscience and living ways of the enviroment whose reality was determinated by regime changes, political party conflicts, economical, political and cultural differences leaving the significant tracks in its historical continuity. Because of that, the approach to music as the part of the entire socio-political and cultural life seemed to be the only correct one. The proposed material can be observed as the mosaic whole made of the parts presenting the localities and forms of the music practice, the activites of prominent choral societies, amateur and professional musical societies, the education and organized manifestations by which music has lived in Mostar

Biocompatibility and cytotoxicity study of nanophotonic rigid gas permeable contact lens material

Since materials on nanoscale have different characteristics from materials on macro scale their biocompatibility should be precisely and specifically investigated. Fullerenes, the third carbon allotrope, are one of the most used nanomaterials. The least stable and the most common is fullerene C-60. One of the main disadvantages of fullerene is its low solubility in water. In order to make it soluble, it must be functionalized with polar groups such as -OH and -COOH. From all the water soluble fullerenes the most important ones are those with -OH groups attached named fullerols. We have developed new materials for contact lenses by adding fullerene (C-60) and fullerol (C-60(OH)(24)) into PMMA. The aim of our investigation was to compare the influences of those materials on aqueous solutions similar to tear film. For the analysis of the solutions we used opto-magnetic imaging and IR spectroscopy. The acquired spectrums were commented and compared with the standard contact lens material, which was analyzed by the same methods. The ISO 10993 cytotoxicity test on extract of nanophotonic material with incorporated C-60 was done as well. This research contributes to better understanding of the biocompatibility of new rigid gas permeable contact lens materials

Y0.8āˆ’xGdxF3:Yb/Er mesocrystals with a biocompatible surface and diverse morphological characteristics were successfully synthesized using chitosan-assisted solvothermal processing. Their structural properties, studied using X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis, were further correlated with the up-conversion emission (Ī»exc = 976 nm) recorded in function of temperature. Based on the change in the visible green emissions originating from the thermally coupled 2H11/2 and 4S3/2 levels of Er3+, the corresponding LIR was acquired in the physiologically relevant range of temperatures (25ā€“50 Ā°C). The detected absolute sensitivity of about 0.0042 Ā°Cāˆ’1, along with the low cytotoxicity toward both normal human lung fibroblasts (MRC-5) and cancerous lung epithelial (A549) cells, indicate a potential for use in temperature sensing in biomedicine. Additionally, their enhanced internalization in cells, without suppression of cell viability, enabled in vitro labeling of cancer and healthy cells upon 976 nm laser irradiation

Objective of this paper is to review drug-induced movement disorders (D-IMD) treated patients on Department of Neurology in University Hospital Osijek. We reviewed patients treated during 10 years period (from 1992 to 2002). Analysed group consisted of 14 patients. Reasons for hospitalisation were swallowing problems in 6 patients, neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) in 3 patients, stroke in 2 patients, bolus choking in 2 patients, and speech disturbance in 1 patient.Working diagnosis for most of our patients was neurological disease, yet only later D-IMD diagnosis was established excluding primary neurological disease, or as associated disease to basic neurological disorder. Nine patients have diagnosed as Parkinson syndrome, 3 patients as NMS, and 4 as orolingual dyskinesia, either autonomously, or in combination with Parkinson syndrome. D-IMD was most frequently caused by neuroleptics. Thus the small number of patients hospitalised regarding this syndrome on Department of Neurology

Prevention and control of foodborne diseases is an international public health goal. Legal imports of food of animal origin are monitored for contamination, and alerts are reported regularly, but food brought into the country illegally could represent a potential threat to consumersā€™ health. In order to assess the level of the risk for public health from uncontrolled imported food of animal origin entering the Republic of Croatia, 83 meat samples were collected at 6 border points between Croatia and third countries. The origins of all confiscated samples were third countries, and the final destinations were EU countries and Switzerland. The weight of the confiscated samples ranged from 500 g to 108 kg. Special attention was focused on the presence of E. coli and its antimicrobial susceptibility. From altogether 83 confiscated meat samples, 8 were positive for E. coli. Although STEC and/or O157, as well as multidrug resistant E. coli were not found in the examined samples, illegally imported meat should be monitored continuously to prevent possible foodborne bacterial infections.

There is a great technological interest in synthesis of lanthanide doped upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) with controlled crystal phase, morphology and intense luminescence properties suitable for biomedical use. A conventional approach for synthesis of such particles comprises decomposition of organometallic compounds in an oxygen-free environment, followed either with a ligand exchange, or biocompatible layer coating. Biocompatible NaY0.65Gd0.15F4:Yb,Er nanoparticles used in this study were synthesized through chitosan assisted one-pot hydrothermal synthesis and were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS) and photoluminescence measurement (PL). Due to the presence of the amino groups at their surface, excellent biocompatibility and notably low cytotoxicity against MRC-5 cells (line of normal human fibroblasts) and A549 cells (human lung cancer cells) were detected using MTT assay. Furthermore, upon 980 nm laser irradiation, particles were successfully used in vitro for labeling of both, MRC-5 and A549 cells
