Existence of a conjugate point in the incompressible Euler flow on a three-dimensional ellipsoid
The existence of a conjugate point on the volume-preserving diffeomorphism
group of a compact Riemannian manifold M is related to the Lagrangian stability
of a solution of the incompressible Euler equation on M. The Misiolek curvature
is a reasonable criterion for the existence of a conjugate point on the
volume-preserving diffeomorphism group corresponding to a stationary solution
of the incompressible Euler equation. In this article, we introduce a class of
stationary solutions on an arbitrary Riemannian manifold whose behavior is nice
with respect to the Misiolek curvature and give a positivity result of the
Misiolek curvature for solutions belonging to this class. Moreover, we also
show the existence of a conjugate point in the three-dimensional ellipsoid case
as its corollary.Comment: Any comments are appreciate
Deformation retraction of the group of strict contactomorphisms of the three-sphere to the unitary group
We prove that the group of strict contactomorphisms of the standard tight
contact structure on the three-sphere deformation retracts to its unitary
subgroup U(2).Comment: Expanded both content and references. Separated into two parts. Part
1 is a more detailed proof of our new result of the deformation retraction of
the group of strict contactomorphisms on the three-sphere. Part 2 gives a
self-contained treatment and proofs of existing results scattered among
several papers in the literature on the Fr\'echet bundle structure of the
group of strict contactomorphism

Given a differentiable manifold M, for each group G \2286 GL(n), one might consider the reduction of the structure group of the GL(n)-principal bundle of frames over M to G. When such a reduction exists, it is called a G-structure over M. Among all G-structures, there exists a more tractable class, called G-structures of finite type, for which the group G satisfies a certain algebraic condition, namely, that the kth prolongation of its Lie algebra, g, is the null vector space. We prove, for such G-structures, that their automorphism group, which consists of all diffeo- morpshisms of M onto itself sending frames from the G-structure into frames again belonging to the G-structure, is a Lie group. Some special cases include isometry groups of Riemannian manifolds, isometry groups of Lorentzian manifolds and conformal groups
