of length 4. We also give bounds for -numbers of bipartite
digraphs whose longest dipath is of length 3. Finally, we present a linear-time
algorithm for determining -numbers of ditrees whose

Low thrust viscous nozzle flow fields prediction
A Navier-Stokes code was developed for low thrust viscous nozzle flow field prediction. An implicit finite volume in an arbitrary curvilinear coordinate system lower-upper (LU) scheme is used to solve the governing Navier-Stokes equations and species transportation equations. Sample calculations of carbon dioxide nozzle flow are presented to verify the validity and efficiency of this code. The computer results are in reasonable agreement with the experimental data
Theoretical-Numerical Study of Feasibility of Use of Winglets on Low Aspect Ration Wings at Subsonic and Transonic Mach Numbers to Reduce Drag
A numerical design study was conducted to assess the drag reduction potential of winglets installed on a series of low aspect ratio wings at a design point of M=0.8, C sub L=0.3. Wing-winglet and wing-alone design geometries were obtained for wings of aspect ratios between 1.75 and 2.67, having leading edge sweep angles between 45 and 60 deg. Winglet length was fixed at 15% of wing semispan. To assess the relative performance between wing-winglet and wing-alone configurations, the PPW nonlinear extended small disturbance potential flow code was utilized. This model has proven to yield plausible transonic flow field simulations for the series of low aspect ratio configurations selected. Predicted decreases in pressure drag coefficient for the wing-winglet configurations relative to the corresponding wing-alone planform are about 15% at the design point. Predicted decreases in wing-winglet total drag coefficient are about 12%, relative to the corresponding wing-alone design. Longer winglets (25% of the wing semispan) yielded decreases in the pressure drag of up to 22% and total drag of up to 16.4%. These predicted drag coefficient reductions are comparable to reductions already demonstrated by actual winglet designs installed on higher aspect ratio transport type aircraft
Discrete Approximation of a Continuous Model of Multistate Demography
This paper suggests the applicability of a method recently developed by systems engineers to the estimation of the state transition matrices involved in the construction of increment-decrement life tables. Relevant to the case of piecewise-constant force functions, this method comes out as an alternative to the usual truncation of the infinite series obtained from the exact expansion of the state transition matrices. It generates a sequence of formulas which, interestingly enough, subsumes the linear formula of Rogers and Ledent (1976) as a special case. An illustration of the method is provided with applications to the analysis of marital status, labor force participation, and interregional migration
Statin Prescription Patterns and Associations with Subclinical Inflammation
Background and Objectives: Statins have been extensively utilised in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) prevention and can inhibit inflammation. However, the association between statin therapy, subclinical inflammation and associated health outcomes is poorly understood in the primary care setting. Materials and Methods: Primary care electronic health record (EHR) data from the electronic Practice-Based Research Network (ePBRN) from 2012–2019 was used to assess statin usage and adherence in South-Western Sydney (SWS), Australia. Independent determinants of elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) were determined. The relationship between baseline CRP levels and hospitalisation rates at 12 months was investigated. Results: The prevalence of lipid-lowering medications was 14.0% in all adults and 44.6% in the elderly (≥65 years). The prevalence increased from 2012 to 2019 despite a drop in statin use between 2013–2015. A total of 55% of individuals had good adherence (>80%). Hydrophilic statin use and higher intensity statin therapy were associated with elevated CRP levels. However, elevated CRP levels were not associated with all-cause or ASCVD hospitalisations after adjusting for confounders. Conclusions: The prevalence and adherence patterns associated with lipid-lowering medications highlighted the elevated ASCVD-related burden in the SWS population, especially when compared with the Australian general population. Patients in SWS may benefit from enhanced screening protocols, targeted health literacy and promotion campaigns, and timely incorporation of evidence into ASCVD clinical guidelines. Differential DNA accessibility to polymerase enables 30-minute phenotypic β-lactam antibiotic susceptibility testing of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae
The rise in carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) infections has created a global health emergency, underlining the critical need to develop faster diagnostics to treat swiftly and correctly. Although rapid pathogen-identification (ID) tests are being developed, gold-standard antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) remains unacceptably slow (1–2 d), and innovative approaches for rapid phenotypic ASTs for CREs are urgently needed. Motivated by this need, in this manuscript we tested the hypothesis that upon treatment with β-lactam antibiotics, susceptible Enterobacteriaceae isolates would become sufficiently permeabilized, making some of their DNA accessible to added polymerase and primers. Further, we hypothesized that this accessible DNA would be detectable directly by isothermal amplification methods that do not fully lyse bacterial cells. We build on these results to develop the polymerase-accessibility AST (pol-aAST), a new phenotypic approach for β-lactams, the major antibiotic class for gram-negative infections. We test isolates of the 3 causative pathogens of CRE infections using ceftriaxone (CRO), ertapenem (ETP), and meropenem (MEM) and demonstrate agreement with gold-standard AST. Importantly, pol-aAST correctly categorized resistant isolates that are undetectable by current genotypic methods (negative for β-lactamase genes or lacking predictive genotypes). We also test contrived and clinical urine samples. We show that the pol-aAST can be performed in 30 min sample-to-answer using contrived urine samples and has the potential to be performed directly on clinical urine specimens
