AbstractA total of 76 sampling sites were selected in the Liao River basin (21.9×104km2). During the period of 2009-2010, 58 water samples were collected in 2010 and 42 were collected in 2009, physical-chemical variables were analyzed to investigate their spatial-temporal variability in particular the relationship with land use /cover. The results indicated that physical and chemical properties showed obvious spatial heterogeneity in the Liao River basin. Taizi River and Hun River are located in the southeast of the basin, the water quality for two sub-basins: water quality in upstream is better than that in downstream, water quality level in downstream was classified into IV-V. There were no obvious features in the East Liao River basin, water quality in downstream was classified into III level. West Liao River run for many years, water quality was classified into IV. Big Liao River basin was located in middle and east of the Liao River basin. Water quality was classified into V. Correlation and regression analysis indicated that BOD5, COD, sediment, hardness and nitrate–nitrogen (NO3−–N), total dissolved particular (TDP) were significantly related to land use for forest and agriculture

Modulation efficiency of LiNbO3 waveguide electro-optic intensity modulator operating at high microwave frequency

    No full text
The modulation efficiency, at high-frequency microwave modulation, of a LiNbO3 waveguide electro-optic modulator is shown to be degraded severely, especially when it is used as a frequency translator in a Brillouin-distributed fiber-sensing system. We derive an analytical expression for this attenuation regarding the phase-velocity mismatch and the impedance mismatch during the modulation process. Theoretical results are confirmed by experimental results based on a 15 Gb/s LiNbO3 optical intensity modulator

Moral Status, Speciesism, and Liao’s Genetic Account

This paper offers several criticisms of the account of rightholding laid out in S. Matthew Liao’s recent paper “The Basis of Human Moral Status.” I argue that Liao’s account both does too much and too little: it grants rightholder status to those who may not deserve it, and it does not provide grounds for offering such status to those who arguably do deserve it. Given these troubling aspects of his approach, I encourage Liao to abandon his “physical basis of moral agency” account of moral status and instead adopt a position closer to a traditional “speciesist” view

The influence of structural defects on intra-granular critical currents of bulk MgB2

Bulk MgB2 samples were prepared under different synthesis conditions and analyzed by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The critical current densities were determined from the magnetization versus magnetic field curves of bulk and powder-dispersed-in-epoxy samples. Results show that through a slow cooling process, the oxygen dissolved in bulk MgB2 at high synthesis temperatures can segregate and form nanometer-sized coherent precipitates of Mg(B,O)2 in the MgB2 matrix. Magnetization measurements indicate that these precipitates act as effective flux pinning centers and therefore significantly improve the intra-grain critical current density and its field dependence.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, to be published in IEE Transactions in Applied Superconductivit

The present research work is aimed at making a summary of the Civil File N ° 19579-1999, which is related to the demand for eviction per precarious occupant, interposed by Hsues Chyr Liao Liao, represented by his attorney Ms. Yu Se Liao Liao, before the 21st Specialized Civil Court of Lima, against Griselda Céspedes Marín Vda. of Gambetta, for him to return the property of his property, located at Av. Javier Prado Oeste N° 2171, 2173 and 2177 - San Isidro, in order to verify whether during the judicial process a due process was made or if it was incurred in some deficiencies or contradictions between the instances. In this regard, after analyzing the file under study, it was verified that the processing of the summary proceeding began on May 25, 1999, with the filing of the application and ended on July 14, 2000, with the ruling of the Civil Transitory Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Republic, which declared the cassation appeal unfounded, a process that was developed on a regular basis, with some observations, as detailed in the present investigation. Finally at the end of the process, the suit filed by Hsues Chyr Liao Liao, represented by his attorney Ms. Yu Se Liao Liao, was declared unfounded, having made a correct interpretation of Article 911 of the Civil Code, consequently, the defendant Griselda Céspedes Marín Vda of Gambetta, would continue in the possession of the property in litigation as tenant under paragraph 2 of article 1708 of said substantive code, until the lease agreement is resolved in accordance with the law.Trabajo de investigació

A Conjugate Gradient Method with Global Convergence for Large-Scale Unconstrained Optimization Problems

    Get PDF
The conjugate gradient (CG) method has played a special role in solving large-scale nonlinear optimization problems due to the simplicity of their very low memory requirements. This paper proposes a conjugate gradient method which is similar to Dai-Liao conjugate gradient method (Dai and Liao, 2001) but has stronger convergence properties. The given method possesses the sufficient descent condition, and is globally convergent under strong Wolfe-Powell (SWP) line search for general function. Our numerical results show that the proposed method is very efficient for the test problems

    Adversarial Sparse-View CBCT Artifact Reduction

We present an effective post-processing method to reduce the artifacts from sparsely reconstructed cone-beam CT (CBCT) images. The proposed method is based on the state-of-the-art, image-to-image generative models with a perceptual loss as regulation. Unlike the traditional CT artifact-reduction approaches, our method is trained in an adversarial fashion that yields more perceptually realistic outputs while preserving the anatomical structures. To address the streak artifacts that are inherently local and appear across various scales, we further propose a novel discriminator architecture based on feature pyramid networks and a differentially modulated focus map to induce the adversarial training. Our experimental results show that the proposed method can greatly correct the cone-beam artifacts from clinical CBCT images reconstructed using 1/3 projections, and outperforms strong baseline methods both quantitatively and qualitatively
