Green’s function method to the ground state properties of a two-component Bose–Einstein condensate
The elementary excitation spectrum of a two-component Bose–Einstein condensate is obtained by Green’s function method. It is found to have two branches. In the long-wave limit, the two branches of the excitation spectrum are reduced to one phonon excitation and one single-particle excitation. With the obtained excitation spectrum and the Green’s functions, the depletion of the condensate and the ground state energy have also been calculated in this paper
Ferromagnetism in the Strong Hybridization Regime of the Periodic Anderson Model
We determine exactly the ground state of the one-dimensional periodic
Anderson model (PAM) in the strong hybridization regime. In this regime, the
low energy sector of the PAM maps into an effective Hamiltonian that has a
ferromagnetic ground state for any electron density between half and three
quarters filling. This rigorous result proves the existence of a new magnetic
state that was excluded in the previous analysis of the mixed valence systems.Comment: Accepted in Phys. Rev.
Broadband Acoustic Cloaking within an Arbitrary Hard Cavity
This paper reports the design, fabrication, and experimental validation of a broadband acoustic cloak for the concealing of three-dimensional (3D) objects placed inside an open cavity with arbitrary surfaces. This 3D cavity cloak represents the acoustic analogue of a magician hat, giving the illusion that a cavity with an object is empty. Transformation acoustics is employed to design this cavity cloak, whose parameters represent an anisotropic acoustic metamaterial. A practical realization is made of 14 perforated layers fabricated by drilling subwavelength holes on 1-mm-thick Plexiglas plates. In both simulation and experimental results, concealing of the reference object by the device is shown for airborne sound with wavelengths between 10 cm and 17 cm.W. W. K. and V. M. Measurements of the observed cross sections for exclusive light hadron production in e^+e^- annihilation at \sqrt{s}= 3.773 and 3.650 GeV
By analyzing the data sets of 17.3 pb taken at GeV
and 6.5 pb taken at GeV with the BESII detector at the
BEPC collider, we have measured the observed cross sections for 12 exclusive
light hadron final states produced in annihilation at the two energy
points. We have also set the upper limits on the observed cross sections and
the branching fractions for decay to these final states at 90%

Geometric phase in the Kitaev honeycomb model and scaling behavior at critical points
In this paper a geometric phase of the Kitaev honeycomb model is derived and
proposed to characterize the topological quantum phase transition. The
simultaneous rotation of two spins is crucial to generate the geometric phase
for the multi-spin in a unit-cell unlike the one-spin case. It is found that
the ground-state geometric phase, which is non-analytic at the critical points,
possesses zigzagging behavior in the gapless phase of non-Abelian anyon
excitations, but is a smooth function in the gapped phase. Furthermore, the
finite-size scaling behavior of the non-analytic geometric phase along with its
first- and second-order partial derivatives in the vicinity of critical points
is shown to exhibit the universality. The divergent second-order derivative of
geometric phase in the thermodynamic limit indicates the typical second-order
phase transition and thus the topological quantum phase transition can be well
described in terms of the geometric-phase.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figure
Search for the Rare Decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e, J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e, and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e-
We report on a search for the decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c., J/Psi -->
D- e+ nu_e + c.c., and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e- + c.c. in a sample of 5.8 * 10^7
J/Psi events collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC. No excess of signal
above background is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the
branching fractions are set: B(J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c.)<4.8*10^-5, B(J/Psi
--> D- e+ nu_e + c.c.) D0bar e+ e- + c.c.)<1.1*10^-5Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
BESII Detector Simulation
A Monte Carlo program based on Geant3 has been developed for BESII detector
simulation. The organization of the program is outlined, and the digitization
procedure for simulating the response of various sub-detectors is described.
Comparisons with data show that the performance of the program is generally
satisfactory.Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures, uses elsart.cls, to be submitted to NIM
Measurements of psi(2S) decays to octet baryon-antibaryon pairs
With a sample of 14 million psi(2S) events collected by the BESII detector at
the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC), the decay channels psi(2S)->p
p-bar, Lambda Lambda-bar, Sigma0 Sigma0-bar, Xi Xi-bar are measured, and their
branching ratios are determined to be (3.36+-0.09+-0.24)*10E-4,
(3.39+-0.20+-0.32)*10E-4, (2.35+-0.36+-0.32)*10E-4, (3.03+-0.40+-0.32)*10E-4,
respectively. In the decay psi(2S)->p p-bar, the angular distribution parameter
alpha is determined to be 0.82+-0.17+-0.04.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure
Direct Measurements of the Branching Fractions for and and Determinations of the Form Factors and
The absolute branching fractions for the decays and

tagged sample from the data collected around 3.773 GeV with the
BES-II detector at the BEPC. In the system recoiling against the singly tagged
meson, events for and events for decays are observed. Those yield
the absolute branching fractions to be and . The
vector form factors are determined to be
and . The ratio of the two form
factors is measured to be .Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
FAM46B is a prokaryotic-like cytoplasmic poly(A) polymerase essential in human embryonic stem cells
Family with sequence similarity (FAM46) proteins are newly identified metazoan-specific poly(A) polymerases (PAPs). Although predicted as Gld-2-like eukaryotic non-canonical PAPs, the detailed architecture of FAM46 proteins is still unclear. Exact biological functions for most of FAM46 proteins also remain largely unknown. Here, we report the first crystal structure of a FAM46 protein, FAM46B. FAM46B is composed of a prominently larger N-terminal catalytic domain as compared to known eukaryotic PAPs, and a C-terminal helical domain. FAM46B resembles prokaryotic PAP/CCA-adding enzymes in overall folding as well as certain inter-domain connections, which distinguishes FAM46B from other eukaryotic non-canonical PAPs. Biochemical analysis reveals that FAM46B is an active PAP, and prefers adenosine-rich substrate RNAs. FAM46B is uniquely and highly expressed in human pre-implantation embryos and pluripotent stem cells, but sharply down-regulated following differentiation. FAM46B is localized to both cell nucleus and cytosol, and is indispensable for the viability of human embryonic stem cells. Knock-out of FAM46B is lethal. Knock-down of FAM46B induces apoptosis and restricts protein synthesis. The identification of the bacterial-like FAM46B, as a pluripotent stem cell-specific PAP involved in the maintenance of translational efficiency, provides important clues for further functional studies of this PAP in the early embryonic development of high eukaryotes
