    Heterogeneity in structurally arrested hard spheres

    When cooled or compressed sufficiently rapidly, a liquid vitrifies into a glassy amorphous state. Vitrification in a dense liquid is associated with jamming of the particles. For hard spheres, the density and degree of order in the final structure depend on the compression rate: simple intuition suggests, and previous computer simulation demonstrates, that slower compression results in states that are both denser and more ordered. In this work, we use the Lubachevsky-Stillinger algorithm to generate a sequence of structurally arrested hard-sphere states by varying the compression rate. We find that while the degree of order, as measured by both bond-orientation and translation order parameters, increases monotonically with decreasing compression rate, the density of the arrested state first increases, then decreases, then increases again, as the compression rate decreases, showing a minimum at an intermediate compression rate. Examination of the distribution of the local order parameters and the distribution of the root-mean-square fluctuation of the particle positions, as well as direct visual inspection of the arrested structures, reveal that they are structurally heterogeneous, consisting of disordered, amorphous regions and locally ordered crystal-like domains. In particular, the low-density arrested states correspond with many interconnected small crystal clusters that form a polycrystalline network interspersed in an amorphous background, suggesting that jamming by the domains may be an important mechanism for these states

    For some kinds of products, the consumers have strict requirements to the reliability of these products in the based warranty period. Then the manufacturer is inclined to provide the two-dimensional preventive maintenance policy to take the usage degree of the product into account. As a result, two-dimensional preventive maintenance policy in the warranty period has recently obtained increasing attention from manufacturers and consumers. In this paper, we focused on the optimization of based warranty cost and proposed a new expected based warranty cost model considering the two-dimensional imperfect preventive maintenance policy from the perspective of the manufacture. Asymmetric copula function was applied to modeling the failure function of the product. And the optimal two-dimensional preventive maintenance period was obtained by minimizing based warranty cost. At last, numerical examples are given to illustrate the proposed models, of which the results prove the model effective and validate

The former is fine to utilize seed\u27s strain potential but the stress-strain curve is obtained only by static test, while the latter uses dynamic stress-strain curve, but the determination of direction of equivalent inertial force is rather difficult. The writers use the equivalent nodal force by average shear stress (Ï„av=0.65 Ï„max) and assume it\u27s direction to be coincided with static shear stress.     Fixed points for weakly inward mappings in Banach spaces

    AbstractS. Hu and Y. Sun [S. Hu, Y. Sun, Fixed point index for weakly inward mappings, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 172 (1993) 266–273] defined the fixed point index for weakly inward mappings, investigated its properties and studied the fixed points for such mappings. In this paper, following S. Hu and Y. Sun, we continue to investigate boundary conditions, under which the fixed point index for the completely continuous and weakly inward mapping, denoted by i(A,Ω,P), is equal to 1 or 0. Correspondingly, we can obtain some new fixed point theorems of the completely continuous and weakly inward mappings and existence theorems of solutions for the equations Ax=μx, which extend many famous theorems such as Leray–Schauder's theorem, Rothe's two theorems, Krasnoselskii's theorem, Altman's theorem, Petryshyn's theorem, etc., to the case of weakly inward mappings. In addition, our conclusions and methods are different from the ones in many recent works

    Rapid determination of volatile constituents in safflower from Xinjiang and Henan by ultrasonic-assisted solvent extraction and GC–MS

    AbstractThe total volatile components were extracted from safflower by ultrasonic-assisted solvent extraction (USE) and their chemical constituents were analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) to provide scientific basis for the quality control of safflower. Five different solvents (diethyl ether, ethanol, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane and acetone) were used and compared in terms of number of volatile components extracted and the peak areas of these components in TIC. The results showed that USE could be used as an efficient and rapid method for extracting the volatile components from safflower. It also could be found that the number of components in the TIC of ethyl acetate extract was more than that in the TIC of other solvent ones. Meanwhile, the volatile components of safflower from Xinjiang Autonomous Region and Henan Province of China were different in chemical components and relative contents. It could be concluded that both the extraction solvents and geographical origin of safflower are responsible for these differences. The experimental results also indicated that USE/GC–MS is a simple, rapid and effective method to analyze the volatile oil components of safflower
