    Near-capacity FEC codes for non-regenerative MIMO-aided relays

    No full text
In this contribution, we derive the Discrete-inputContinuous-output Memoryless Channel (DCMC) capacity of the non-regenerative Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) relay channel, when the source-to-destination link is inferior and hence considered absent. We design near-capacity Forward Error Correction (FEC) codes for approaching this capacity limit. It is shown that our design is capable of approaching the DCMC capacity within 0.4 dB, when communicating over uncorrelated Raleigh fading channels, where the source node, relay node and destination node are equipped with two antennas each

Flux Jumping and a Bulk-to-Granular Transition in the Magnetization of a Compacted and Sintered MgB2 Superconductor

The recent discovery of intermediate-temperature superconductivity (ITC) in MgB2 by Akimitsu et al. and its almost simultaneous explanation in terms of a hole-carrier-based pairing mechanism by Hirsch, has triggered an avalanche of studies of its structural, magnetic and transport properties. As a further contribution to the field we report the results of field (H) and temperature (T) dependent magnetization (M) measurements of a pellet of uniform, large-grain sintered MgB2. We show that at low temperatures the size of the pellet and its critical current density, Jc(H) - i.e. its M(H) - ensure low field flux jumping, which of course ceases when M(H) drops below a critical value. With further increase of H and T the individual grains decouple and the M(H) loops drop to lower lying branches, unresolved in the usual full M(H) representation. After taking into account the sample size and grain size, respectively, the bulk sample and the grains were deduced to exhibit the same magnetically determined Jc s (e.g. 105 A/cm2, 20 K, 0T) and hence that for each temperature of measurement Jc(H) decreased monotonically with H over the entire field range, except for a gap within the grain-decoupling zone.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, Changes: Fig 6 Vertical scale an order of magnitude out (changed figure and associated text). AbstractA 57-year-old man presented with unproductive cough and dyspnea for 6 months in Fujian Province, China. His misuse of a large amount of steroids (accumulated dose equivalent to 3530Β mg prednisolone) resulted in Talaromyces marneffei infection. Chest computed tomographic scan revealed diffuse interstitial and multiple cavitary lung lesions. Treatment with amphotericin B combined with itraconazole resulted in total recovery, with marked regression of lung lesions

Numerical simulation research on ecological protection device for marine water intake engineering based on cfd

    Get PDF
1941-1948The ecological protection originated from marine engineering is the key factor for the healthy and sustainable development of marine ecological system. Combined with the tidal dynamic characteristics, a new optimistic ecological protection device concept model is designed for marine water intake engineering to avoid the ecological loss, which following the principles of safe, stable, easy installation and maintenance, unaffected water intake. Based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the three dimensional mathematical model of ecological protection device for marine water intake engineering is constructed to simulate and evaluate the feasibility of the proposed device. The flow field and pressure distribution are simulated and analyzed before and after the device installation. The numerical results of flow velocity in the intake, intake box and intake channel show that the ecological protection device has a weak effect on the flow field and the device can provide ecological safeguard for marine intake engineering. The pressure distribution from the ecological protection device would also reflect the underlying reason of the flow velocity change

Compressive Properties of SiC Particle-Reinforced Aluminum Matrix Composites under Repeated Impact Loading

    No full text
Under repeated impact loading, SiC particle-reinforced aluminum matrix composites (SiCp/Al) experience severe plastic strains, which can lead to local changes in their microstructure. Microstructure variations have a significant effect on the dynamic behavior of SiCp/Al composites under subsequent impact loading. Their microstructure was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Then the dynamic compressive properties of SiCp/Al composites were studied using the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB), and the dynamic compression stress–strain curve for each impact was plotted.Π’ условиях ΠΏΠΎΠ²Ρ‚ΠΎΡ€Π½ΠΎΠ³ΠΎ ΡƒΠ΄Π°Ρ€Π½ΠΎΠ³ΠΎ нагруТСния ΠΊΠΎΠΌΠΏΠΎΠ·ΠΈΡ†ΠΈΠΎΠ½Π½Ρ‹Π΅ ΠΌΠ°Ρ‚Π΅Ρ€ΠΈΠ°Π»Ρ‹ с алюминиСвой ΠΌΠ°Ρ‚Ρ€ΠΈΡ†Π΅ΠΉ, ΡƒΠΏΡ€ΠΎΡ‡Π½Π΅Π½Π½Ρ‹Π΅ частицами SiC (SiCp/Al), ΠΈΡΠΏΡ‹Ρ‚Ρ‹Π²Π°ΡŽΡ‚ дСйствиС высоких пластичСских Π΄Π΅Ρ„ΠΎΡ€ΠΌΠ°Ρ†ΠΈΠΉ, Ρ‡Ρ‚ΠΎ ΠΌΠΎΠΆΠ΅Ρ‚ ΠΏΡ€ΠΈΠ²ΠΎΠ΄ΠΈΡ‚ΡŒ ΠΊ Π»ΠΎΠΊΠ°Π»ΡŒΠ½Ρ‹ΠΌ измСнСниям ΠΈΡ… микроструктуры. Molecular cytogenetic aberrations in patients with multiple myeloma studied by interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization

    No full text
Background: Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable hematological disorder characterized by the accumulation of malignant plasma cells within the bone marrow (BM). The clinical heterogeneity of MM is dictated by the cytogenetic aberrations present in the clonal plasma cells (PCs). Cytogenetic studies in MM are hampered by the hypoproliferative nature of plasma cells in MM. Therefore, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis combined with magnetic-activated cell sorting (MACS) is an attractive alternative for evaluation of numerical and structural chromosomal changes in MM. Methods: Interphase FISH studies with three different specific probes for the regions containing 13q14.3 (D13S319), 14q32 (IGHC/IGHV) and 1q12(CEP1 ) were performed in 48 MM patients. Interphase FISH studies with LSI IGH/CCND1, LSI IGH/FGFR3, and LSI IGH/MAF probes were used to detect t(11;14)(q13;q32), t(4;14)(p16;q32), and t(14;16)(q32;q23) in patients with 14q32 rearrangement. Results: Molecular cytogenetic aberrations were found in 40 (83.3%) of the 48 MM patients. 13 patients (27.1%) simultaneously had 13q deletion/monosomy 13 [del(13q14)], illegitimate IGH rearrangement and chromosome 1 abnormality. Del(13q14) was detected in 21 cases (43.7%), and illegitimate IGH rearrangements in 29 (60.4%) including 6 with t(11;14) and 5 with t(4;14). None of 9 patients with illegitimate IGH rearrangements and without t(11;14) or t(4;14) we detected had t(14;16) (q32;q23). 24 of the 48 MM patients (50%) had chromosome 1 abnormalities. Among 21 patients with del(13q14), 15 patients had Amp1q12;16 had IgH rearrangements. Whereas, among 27 cases without del(13q14), 8 had Amp1q12; 13 had IgH rearrangements. There was a strong association between del(13q14) and Amp1q12(c2 = 8.26, Ρ€ < 0.01), and between del(13q14) and IgH rearrangement(c2 = 3.88, p < 0.05). Conclusion: 13q deletion/monosomy 13, IGH rearrangement and chromosome 1 abnormality are frequent in MM. They are not randomly distributed, but strongly interconnected. Interphase FISH technique combined with MACS using CD138-specific antibody is a highly sensitive technique at detecting molecular cytogenetic aberrations in MM. First Measurements of Rayleigh-Taylor-Induced Magnetic Fields in Laser-produced Plasmas

    Get PDF
The first experimental demonstration of Rayleigh-Taylor-induced magnetic fields due to the Biermann battery effect has been made. Experiments with laser-irradiated plastic foils were performed to investigate these illusive fields using a monoenergetic proton radiography system. Path-integrated B field strength measurements were inferred from radiographs and found to increase from 10 to 100  T μm during the linear growth phase for 120  μm perturbations. Proton fluence modulations were corrected for Coulomb scattering using measured areal density profiles from x-ray radiographs.United States. Anomalous Crossing Frequency in Odd Proton Nuclei

A generic explanation for the recently observed anomalous crossing frequencies in odd proton rare earth nuclei is given. As an example, the proton 12[541]{1\over 2} [541] band in 175^{175}Ta is discussed in detail by using the angular momentum projection theory. It is shown that the quadrupole pairing interaction is decisive in delaying the crossing point and the changes in crossing frequency along the isotope chain are due to the different neutron shell fillings

Metamaterial Polarization Converter Analysis: Limits of Performance

In this paper we analyze the theoretical limits of a metamaterial converter that allows for linear-to- elliptical polarization transformation with any desired ellipticity and ellipse orientation. We employ the transmission line approach providing a needed level of the design generalization. Our analysis reveals that the maximal conversion efficiency for transmission through a single metamaterial layer is 50%, while the realistic re ection configuration can give the conversion efficiency up to 90%. We show that a double layer transmission converter and a single layer with a ground plane can have 100% polarization conversion efficiency. We tested our conclusions numerically reaching the designated limits of efficiency using a simple metamaterial design. Our general analysis provides useful guidelines for the metamaterial polarization converter design for virtually any frequency range of the electromagnetic waves.Comment: 10 pages, 11 figures, 2 table
