    The application of user log for online business environment using content-based Image retrieval system

    Over the past few years, inter-query learning has gained much attention in the research and development of content-based image retrieval (CBIR) systems. This is largely due to the capability of inter-query approach to enable learning from the retrieval patterns of previous query sessions. However, much of the research works in this field have been focusing on analyzing image retrieval patterns stored in the database. This is not suitable for a dynamic environment such as the World Wide Web (WWW) where images are constantly added or removed. A better alternative is to use an image's visual features to capture the knowledge gained from the previous query sessions. Based on the previous work (Chung et al., 2006), the aim of this paper is to propose a framework of inter-query learning for the WWW-CBIR systems. Such framework can be extremely useful for those online companies whose core business involves providing multimedia content-based services and products to their customers

    A New Transport Regime in the Quantum Hall Effect

    This paper describes an experimental identification and characterization of a new low temperature transport regime near the quantum Hall-to-insulator transition. In this regime, a wide range of transport data are compactly described by a simple phenomenological form which, on the one hand, is inconsistent with either quantum Hall or insulating behavior and, on the other hand, is also clearly at odds with a quantum-critical, or scaling, description. We are unable to determine whether this new regime represents a clearly defined state or is a consequence of finite temperature and sample-size measurements.Comment: Revtex, 3 pages, 2 figure

    Phase-Sensitive Tetracrystal Pairing-Symmetry Measurements and Broken Time-Reversal Symmetry States of High Tc Superconductors

    A detailed analysis of the symmetric tetracrystal geometry used in phase-sensitive pairing symmetry experiments on high Tc superconductors is carried out for both bulk and surface time-reversal symmetry-breaking states, such as the d+id' and d+is states. The results depend critically on the substrate geometry. In the general case, for the bulk d+id' (or d+is) state, the measured flux quantization should in general not be too different from that obtained in the pure d-wave case, provided |d'| << |d| (or |s| << |d|). However, in one particular high symmetry geometry, the d+id' state gives results that allow it to be distinguished from the pure d and the d + is states. Results are also given for the cases where surface d+is or d+id' states occur at a [110] surface of a bulk d-wave superconductor. Remarkably, in the highest symmetry geometry, a number of the broken time-reversal symmetry states discussed above give flux quantization conditions usually associated with states not having broken time- reversal symmetry.Comment: 6 page

    <i>Vibrio kanaloae</i> sp. nov., <i>Vibrio pomeroyi</i> sp. nov. and <i>Vibrio chagasii</i> sp. nov., from sea water and marine animals

    The taxonomic position of the fluorescent amplified fragment length polymorphism fingerprinting groups A46 (five isolates), A51 (six isolates), A52 (five isolates) and A53 (seven isolates) obtained in a previous study were further analysed through a polyphasic approach. The 23 isolates were phylogenetically related to Vibrio splendidus, but DNA-DNA hybridization experiments proved that they belong to three novel species. Chemotaxonomic and phenotypic analyses further disclosed several features that differentiate between the 23 isolates and known Vibrio species. The names Vibrio kanaloae sp. nov. (type strain LMG 20539T=CAIM 485T; EMBL accession no. AJ316193; G+C content 44·7 mol%), Vibrio pomeroyi sp. nov. (type strain LMG 20537T=CAIM 578T; EMBL accession no. AJ491290; G+C content 44·1 mol%) and Vibrio chagasii sp. nov. (type strain LMG 21353T=CAIM 431T; EMBL accession no. AJ316199; G+C content 44·6 mol%) are respectively proposed to encompass the five isolates of A46, the six isolates of A51 and the 12 isolates of A52/A53. The three novel species can be distinguished from known Vibrio species by several phenotypic features, including utilization and fermentation of various carbon sources, -galactosidase activity and fatty acid content (particularly of 12 : 0, 14 : 0, 14 : 0 iso and 16 : 0 iso)

    An improved geometric inequality via vanishing moments, with applications to singular Liouville equations

    We consider a class of singular Liouville equations on compact surfaces motivated by the study of Electroweak and Self-Dual Chern-Simons theories, the Gaussian curvature prescription with conical singularities and Onsager's description of turbulence. We analyse the problem of existence variationally, and show how the angular distribution of the conformal volume near the singularities may lead to improvements in the Moser-Trudinger inequality, and in turn to lower bounds on the Euler-Lagrange functional.
