Generalized Runge-Lenz Vector in Taub-Nut Spinning Space
The generalized Killing equations and the symmetries of Taub-NUT spinning
space are investigated. For spinless particles the Runge-Lenz vector defines a
constant of motion directly, whereas for spinning particles it now requires a
non-trivial contribution from spin. The generalized Runge-Lenz vector for
spinning Taub-NUT space is completely evaluated.Comment: 9 page
Rutherford scattering with radiation damping
We study the effect of radiation damping on the classical scattering of
charged particles. Using a perturbation method based on the Runge-Lenz vector,
we calculate radiative corrections to the Rutherford cross section, and the
corresponding energy and angular momentum losses.Comment: Latex, 11 pages, 4 eps figure
Study, Design and Test of a LENZ-type Wind Turbine
The current concern about reducing dependence on fossil fuels and issues about environmental conditions have guided the survey for renewable energies around the world. The present work was focused in the study, design, construction and laboratorial tests of a small-size vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT) of Lenz-type. The wind turbine was chosen based on criteria of operation in turbulent winds and mainly due to low-cost of fabrication and possibility to use it in farms. The study was carried out in the description of wind resources in a specific area from countryside of Brazil. The Lenz turbine was designed, drawn, built and later tested in a low-speed wind tunnel. Experimental data were gathered to describe the characteristics of the prototype and to guide for further modifications to improve wind power efficiency
Dedication
Every year, the East Asian Studies Journal is dedicated to a Wittenberg University faculty or staff member who is actively involved in the East Asian Studies Program, promotes academic achievement and encourages students to stretch beyond their limits in their chosen fields of study. The student staff would like to dedicate this year’s issue to Dr. Ralph Lenz, our Geography teacher.Dr. Ralph Lenz has a PhD in Geography from Rutgers University. He joined the Wittenberg faculty in 1976 after one year at the University of South Western Louisiana. Dr. Lenz initial publications in Geographical Analysis show his early focus on quantitative and theoretical research in analyzing map patterns. After taking Fulbright-Hays group trips to multiple places including India, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi, Dr. Lenz became increasingly focused on regional research with South East Asia as his area of focus. Dr. Lenz has made 27 visits to Southeast Asia and has published multiple pieces on Indonesia and Vietnam. After receiving a Freeman grant which sponsored visits to Eastern China and the Silk Road, in addition to some other travel time, Dr. Lenz has visited 12 provinces in China. Using his research in China, Dr. Lenz began teaching about Chinese Geography and Chinese minority groups in the Wittenberg East Asian Studies department. We at the East Asian Studies Journal would like to thank Dr. Lenz for his great contribution to our program and passion for sharing East Asian Studies
An "Accidental" Symmetry Operator for the Dirac Equation in the Coulomb Potential
On the basis of the generalization of the theorem about K-odd operators (K is
the Dirac's operator), certain linear combination is constructed, which appears
to commute with the Dirac Hamiltonian for Coulomb field. This operator
coincides with the Johnson and Lippmann operator and is intimately connected to
the familiar Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector. Our approach guarantees not only
derivation of Johnson-Lippmann operator, but simultaneously commutativity with
the Dirac Hamiltonian follows.Comment: 6 page
Der gesellschaftliche Aspekt von Lenz in seinen Kurzgeschichten
Short stories of Siegfried Lenz, one of the most recognized Germanwriting authors of the post-war and contemporary literature, are the primary subject of the scientific article titled “The social aspect of Lenz in his short stories”. In this context, an attempt is made to analyze characters with the purpose of revealing the modern world whereby he handles the problems of modern world and modern human. In his short stories, Lenz presents a social world where certain behavioral and mental patterns are formed. In other words, the objective of this scientific article should be to conduct a thematic discussion in respect of the content of the short stories of Lenz. From this perspective, the central questions asked by the above mentioned scientific article may be formulated as follows: Could the short stories of Lenz be structured by adding one on the top of other, or are these short stories any expressions or presentations of different aspects of social life which cannot be combined with each other
