Assessing the benefits and risks of application of inverter drives in industry
This paper presents the impact assessment of converters installed in an industrial plant on the power quality in internal power grid of the plant. The analysis of real measurements showed that the installation of inverter drives, despite many benefits, as energy savings, that have been reported in the paper, can also cause many problems. We observed multiple issues related to failures in the control and automation systems that could be due to the interference generated by simultaneous operation of inverter drives

Wpływ rodzaju złoża filtracyjnego w układach oczyszczania wody basenowej na jakość popłuczyn
This paper presents the influence of the type of filtration beds, used in swimming pool water treatment systems, on the quality and possibility of reusing the washings. The research covered 4 pool cycles with sand, sand and anthracite, glass and diatomaceous beds. The degree of contamination of washings was assessed on the basis of physical, chemical and bacteriological tests. The possibility of drainage of washings into the natural environment was considered, and the results of the research were compared with the permissible values of pollution indicators for wastewater discharged to water or ground. A direct management of the washings from the analyzed filters proved impossible mainly due to the high content of TSS (total suspended solids) and free chlorine. The washings were sedimented and then the supernatant was stirred intensively. As a result of these processes, the quality of washings was significantly improved. This allowed planning to supplement the pool water installations with systems for washings management. Pozwoliło to planować uzupełnianie instalacji wody basenowej o układy zagospodarowania popłuczyn
Chlorine contamination in different points of pool - risk analysis for bathers’ health
The pool water treatment and disinfection plant fulfills its task, if the hydraulic system cooperates with the appropriate pool basin geometry. Water flow through the pool can cause “dead” zones not involved in circulation. In these zones the degree of mixing the disinfectant with water can be different. In consequence, the effectiveness of microorganisms’ deactivation and the health effects of bathers may be different. The physicochemical results of pool water samples taken from the characteristic points of the basin were presented. Attention has been paid to the content of free chlorine and combined chlorine. The study was conducted in two indoor pools, differing in water flow. Based on the analysis results, chlorine maps for swimming pools were prepared. It has been shown that in order to assess the health risk to bathers samples of water should be collected from representative points of pool
The occurence of micropollutants from PPCPs macrogroup in swimming pool water
Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products). Do identyfikacji związków zastosowano metodę chromatografii gazowej z detekcją mas GC-MS z jonizacją elektronową poprzedzoną ekstrakcją do fazy stałej SPE (ang. Solid Phase Extraction).Maintaining the microbial water quality in order to inhibit the spread of infections and diseases is the priority for every swimming pool owners and managers. There is a number of disinfectants that have been used for swimming pool, which potentially produce a wide range of disinfection by-products (DBPs). These micropollutants are produced by reaction with organic and inorganic matter entering swimming pools by their users. Besides DBPs there are many others micropollutants from PPCPs macro group (Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products) that are nowadays identified in swimming pool water. This article describes research conducted on the school swimming pool water. Qualitative chromatographic analysis have shown the presence of more than 100 micropollutants that have not been identified in these environment yet, including medicines, hormones, vitamins, industrial admixtures or cosmetic ingredients. Gas chromatography with GC-MS detection and electron ionization followed by SPE (Solid Phase Extraction) was used to identify the compounds

Mechanistic insights into the protective roles of polyphosphate against amyloid cytotoxicity.
The universally abundant polyphosphate (polyP) accelerates fibril formation of disease-related amyloids and protects against amyloid cytotoxicity. To gain insights into the mechanism(s) by which polyP exerts these effects, we focused on α-synuclein, a well-studied amyloid protein, which constitutes the major component of Lewy bodies found in Parkinson's disease. Here, we demonstrate that polyP is unable to accelerate the rate-limiting step of α-synuclein fibril formation but effectively nucleates fibril assembly once α-synuclein oligomers are formed. Binding of polyP to α-synuclein either during fibril formation or upon fibril maturation substantially alters fibril morphology and effectively reduces the ability of α-synuclein fibrils to interact with cell membranes. The effect of polyP appears to be α-synuclein fibril specific and successfully prevents the uptake of fibrils into neuronal cells. These results suggest that altering the polyP levels in the extracellular space might be a potential therapeutic strategy to prevent the spreading of the disease
