Decelerating Airy pulse propagation in highly non-instantaneous cubic media
The propagation of decelerating Airy pulses in non-instantaneous cubic medium is investigated both theoretically and numerically. In a Debye model, at variance with the case of accelerating Airy and Gaussian pulses, a decelerating Airy pulse evolves into a single soliton for weak and general non- instantaneous response. Airy pulses can hence be used to control soliton generation by temporal shaping. The effect is critically dependent on the response time, and could be used as a way to measure the Debye type response function. For highly non- instantaneous response, we theoretically find a decelerating Airy pulse is still transformed into Airy wave packet with deceleration. The theoretical predictions are confirmed by numerical simulations
CodeFuse-13B: A Pretrained Multi-lingual Code Large Language Model
Code Large Language Models (Code LLMs) have gained significant attention in
the industry due to their wide applications in the full lifecycle of software
engineering. However, the effectiveness of existing models in understanding
non-English inputs for multi-lingual code-related tasks is still far from well
studied. This paper introduces CodeFuse-13B, an open-sourced pre-trained code
LLM. It is specifically designed for code-related tasks with both English and
Chinese prompts and supports over 40 programming languages. CodeFuse achieves
its effectiveness by utilizing a high quality pre-training dataset that is
carefully filtered by program analyzers and optimized during the training
process. Extensive experiments are conducted using real-world usage scenarios,
the industry-standard benchmark HumanEval-x, and the specially designed
CodeFuseEval for Chinese prompts. To assess the effectiveness of CodeFuse, we
actively collected valuable human feedback from the AntGroup's software
development process where CodeFuse has been successfully deployed. The results
demonstrate that CodeFuse-13B achieves a HumanEval pass@1 score of 37.10%,
positioning it as one of the top multi-lingual code LLMs with similar parameter
sizes. In practical scenarios, such as code generation, code translation, code
comments, and testcase generation, CodeFuse performs better than other models
when confronted with Chinese prompts.Comment: 10 pages with 2 pages for reference
MicroRNA-145 Regulates Chondrogenic Differentiation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells by Targeting Sox9
Chondrogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) is accurately regulated by essential transcription factors and signaling cascades. However, the precise mechanisms involved in this process still remain to be defined. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) regulate various biological processes by binding target mRNA to attenuate protein synthesis. To investigate the mechanisms for miRNAs-mediated regulation of chondrogenic differentiation, we identified that miR-145 was decreased during transforming growth factor beta 3 (TGF-β3)-induced chondrogenic differentiation of murine MSCs. Subsequently, dual-luciferase reporter gene assay data demonstrated that miR-145 targets a putative binding site in the 3′-UTR of SRY-related high mobility group-Box gene 9 (Sox9) gene, the key transcription factor for chondrogenesis. In addition, over-expression of miR-145 decreased expression of Sox9 only at protein levels and miR-145 inhibition significantly elevated Sox9 protein levels. Furthermore, over-expression of miR-145 decreased mRNA levels for three chondrogenic marker genes, type II collagen (Col2a1), aggrecan (Agc1), cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP), type IX collagen (Col9a2) and type XI collagen (Col11a1) in C3H10T1/2 cells induced by TGF-β3, whereas anti-miR-145 inhibitor increased the expression of these chondrogenic marker genes. Thus, our studies demonstrated that miR-145 is a key negative regulator of chondrogenic differentiation by directly targeting Sox9 at early stage of chondrogenic differentiation
An Ensemble Learning Aided Computer Vision Method with Advanced Color Enhancement for Corroded Bolt Detection in Tunnels
Bolts, as the basic units of tunnel linings, are crucial to safe tunnel service. Caused by the moist and complex environment in the tunnel, corrosion becomes a significant defect of bolts. Computer vision technology is adopted because manual patrol inspection is inefficient and often misses the corroded bolts. However, most current studies are conducted in a laboratory with good lighting conditions, while their effects in actual practice have yet to be considered, and the accuracy also needs to be improved. In this paper, we put forward an Ensemble Learning approach combining our Improved MultiScale Retinex with Color Restoration (IMSRCR) and You Only Look Once (YOLO) based on truly acquired tunnel image data to detect corroded bolts in the lining. The IMSRCR sharpens and strengthens the features of the lining pictures, weakening the bad effect of a dim environment compared with the existing MSRCR. Furthermore, we combine models with different parameters that show different performance using the ensemble learning method, greatly improving the accuracy. Sufficient comparisons and ablation experiments based on a dataset collected from the tunnel in service are conducted to prove the superiority of our proposed algorithm
Factors Influencing the Expansion of Arch-Shaped Electromagnetic Railguns with Pre-Stressed Composite Barrels
Rail expansion significantly impacts the launch precision of a railgun system. Higher precision can be achieved when the extent of expansion is low. This paper investigates three main factors that influence the extent of rail expansion using the finite element method, including pre-stress, electromagnetic load, and stiffness of the insulators. The mean squared error between experiment results and simulating results is less than 0.06, validating the finite element model. The simulated results reveal that the extent of rail expansion increases with a decrease in pre-stress and an increase in electromagnetic pressure and the stiffness of the insulator is the most significant influencing factor, as the use of a stiff insulator not only results in a small extent of rail expansion but also delays the separation between the rails and insulators. The mechanism of how pre-stress influences the railgun system has been proposed. It has been expressed that the pre-stress maintains the integrity of the railgun system by hindering the process of a decrease in the contact surface area between rails and insulators during launch. The study provides a platform to improve the design of the railgun system
Analysis of symptoms and their potential associations with e-liquids’ components: a social media study
Abstract Background The electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) market has grown rapidly in recent years. However, causes of e-cigarette related symptoms among users and their impact on health remain uncertain. This research aims to mine the potential relationships between symptoms and e-liquid components, such as propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerine (VG), flavor extracts, and nicotine, using user-generated data collected from Reddit. Methods A total of 3605 e-liquid related posts from January 1st, 2011 to June 30th, 2015 were collected from Reddit. Then the patterns of VG/PG distribution among different flavors were analyzed. Next, the relationship between throat hit, which was a typical symptom of e-cigarette use, and e-liquid components was studied. Finally, other symptoms were examined based on e-liquid components and user sentiment. Results We discovered 3 main sets of findings: 1) We identified three groups of flavors in terms of VG/PG ratios. Fruits, cream, and nuts flavors were similar. Sweet, menthol, and seasonings flavors were classified into one group. Tobacco and beverages flavors were the third group. 2) Throat hit was analyzed and we found that menthol and tobacco flavors, as well as high ratios of PG and nicotine level, could produce more throat hit. 3) A total of 9 systems of 25 symptoms were identified and analyzed. Components including VG/PG ratio, flavor, and nicotine could be possible reasons for these symptoms. Conclusions E-liquid components shown to be associated with e-cigarette use symptomology were VG/PG ratios, flavors, and nicotine levels. Future analysis could be conducted based on the structure of e-liquid components categories built in this study. Information revealed in this study could be utilized by e-cigarette users to understand the relationship between e-liquid type and symptoms experienced, by vendors to choose appropriate recipes of e-liquid, and by policy makers to develop new regulations

Stability control in a helicoidal spin–orbit-coupled open Bose–Bose mixture
In this article, the modulation instability (MI) of open Bose–Bose mixtures with helicoidal spin–orbit coupling (SOC) was studied. Unlike previous spin–orbit (SO)-coupled Bose–Einstein condensate system with helicoidal gauge potential, the purpose of this article to study the input of the helicoidal SOC in the emergence of MI in open Bose–Bose mixtures by taking into account the Lee–Huang–Yang corrections to the coupled Gross–Pitaevskii equations. We present the detailed analyses of system parameters on the characteristics of MI and analytically conclude the parameter conditions for MI occurrence. Our results provide a potential way to manipulate the MI in the helicoidal SO-coupled open Bose–Bose mixtures
