Dengue fever has long been a community health problem in tropical countries. Dengue virus is a crucial cause of disease in international tourists, with a rising number of them returning from dengue‐endemic countries infected with dengue fever. This study analyses the impact of international tourist arrivals on economic growth moderated by dengue fever cases in Malaysia from 2014 until 2020. This study was carried out using secondary monthly data for dengue fever cases, gross domestic product (GDP), and international tourist arrivals. A correlation test was used to analyse the correlation between the independent, dependent and moderating variables. Granger causality test was employed to determine the causality between the selected three variables, dengue fever cases, international tourist arrivals, and economic growth. The results reveal a significant correlation between dengue fever cases, tourist arrivals, and economic growth. Between 2017 and 2018, higher international tourist arrivals led to lower economic growth under dengue disease hazards in Malaysia. Furthermore, dengue fever risk is found to have a positive relationship with international tourist arrivals and vice versa. The findings show a causality effect between the selected variables. The selected three indicators drive each other in the period study. In line with the government’s strategy to promote the Malaysian tourism industry, prevention and recovery policies should be planned considering the number of dengue cases and economic factors

Delayed presentation of compartment syndrome of the thigh secondary to quadriceps trauma and vascular injury in a soccer athlete

AbstractIntroductionCompartment syndrome isolated to the anterior thigh is a rare complication of soccer injury. Previous reports in the English literature on sports trauma-related compartment syndrome of the thigh are vague in their description of the response of thigh musculature to blunt trauma, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of high-risk features of compartment syndrome, vascular injury in quadriceps trauma, and the role of vascular study in blunt thigh injury.Case reportWe present herein the rare case of a 30-year-old man who developed thigh compartment syndrome 8 days after soccer injury due to severe edema of vastus intermedius and large thigh hematoma secondary to rupture of the profunda femoris vein. MRI revealed “blow-out” rupture of the vastus lateralis. Decompressive fasciotomy and vein repair performed with subsequent split-skin grafting of the wound defect resulted in a good functional outcome at 2-years follow-up.ConclusionA high index of suspicion for compartment syndrome is needed in all severe quadriceps contusion. Vascular injury can cause thigh compartment syndrome in sports trauma. MRI findings of deep thigh muscle swelling and “blow-out” tear of the vastus lateralis are strongly suggestive of severe quadriceps injury, and may be a harbinger of delayed thigh compartment syndrome

In the solid state, the title compound, C12H16BrNO5 [systematic name: 4-bromo-2-((1E)-{[1,3-dihydroxy-2-(hydroxymethyl)propan-2-yl]iminiumyl}methyl)-6-methoxybenzen-1-olate], C12H16BrNO5, is found in the keto-amine tautomeric form, with an intramolecular iminium-N-H...O(phenolate) hydrogen bond and an E conformation about the C=N bond. Both gauche (two) and anti relationships are found for the methylhydroxy groups. In the crystal, a supramolecular layer in the bc plane is formed via hydroxy-O-H...O(hydroxy) and charge-assisted hydroxy-O-H...O(phenolate) hydrogen-bonding interactions; various C-H...O interactions provide additional cohesion to the layers, which stack along the a axis with no directional interactions between them. A Hirshfeld surface analysis confirms the lack of specific interactions in the inter-layer region

The YbIII atom in the title complex, [Yb(C27H24Cl3N4O3)] [systematic name: (2,2′,2′′-{(nitrilo)tris[ethane-2,1-diyl(nitrilo)methylylidene]}tris(4-chlorophenolato)ytterbium(III)], is coordinated by a trinegative, heptadentate ligand and exists within an N4O3 donor set, which defines a capped octahedral geometry whereby the amine N atom caps the triangular face defined by the three imine N atoms. The packing features supramolecular layers that stack along the a axis, sustained by a combination of aryl-C—H...O, imine-C—H...O, methylene-C—H...π(aryl) and end-on C—Cl...π(aryl) interactions. A Hirshfeld surface analysis points to the major contributions of C...H/ H...C and Cl...H/H...Cl interactions (along with H...H) to the overall surface but the Cl...H contacts are at distances greater than the sum of their van der Waals radii

The title compound, (iPr)2NC(=S)SCH2C(=O)OH (1), was synthesized by conventional methods and its X-ray crystal structure was determined by X-ray crystallography. The compound was further characterized by analytical, IR, UV, 1D NMR (1H and 13C{1H}), and 2D NMR (DEPT135) spectroscopy, and density functional theory (DFT) methods. X-ray crystallography on 1 confirms the formulation and reveals a nearly orthogonal relationship between the planar NCS2 and C2O2 residues. In the crystal, hydroxyl-O–H⋯O(carbonyl) hydrogen bonds lead dimers via an eightmembered {⋯OCOH}2 ring

Experimental and computational evidence for a stabilising C–Cl(lone-pair)⋯π(chelate-ring) interaction

In addition to a variety of conventional non-covalent intermolecular interactions such as C–H…π(arene), C–H…Cl and π(arene)…π(chelate-ring) contacts, the molecular packing in the crystal of an organotin dithiocarbamate compound, [SnCl(4-ClC6H4)2{S2CN(i-Pr)2}], exhibits evidence for a C–Cl…π(chelate-ring) interaction. These interactions occur via a side-on approach of the chloride atom to the chelate-ring and therefore, are characterised as C–Cl(lone pair)…π(chelate-ring) interactions, are shown to be attractive by NCI plots and QTAIM analysis, and are apparent in the calculated Hirshfeld surfaces. Theory suggests the energy of association provided the C–Cl…π(chelate-ring) interactions to be about 3-4 kcal/mol, a value greater than for analogous C–Cl…π(arene) and C–H…π(arene) interactions. A survey of the literature of related structures suggests these interactions are not common. The newly described C–Cl(lone-pair)…π(chelate-ring) interactions add to the variety of intermolecular interactions able to be formed by chelate-rings in the supramolecular chemistry of metal complexes

Objectives: To explore the experience of CRS and its management from the perspective of patients with CRS. To our knowledge this is the first qualitative study exploring sinus disease. Design: Semi-structured qualitative interviews. Setting: ENT outpatient clinic. Participants: 21 adult patients with CRS: 11 male, 10 female. Patients suffered from a range of types of CRS (including polyps and fungal disease) and differing durations of symptoms (1.5- 47 years). Participants were purposively selected. Thematic analysis was used. Outcome measures: Patient experience of CRS and its management. Results: Patients had concerns regarding management of their symptoms by both healthcare professionals and themselves, including delays to referral and repeated medications. They reported reduced quality of life and high financial and psychosocial costs associated with living with CRS. Conclusions: Despite guidelines for CRS treatment, outcomes remain variable leading to dissatisfaction with treatment. Adherence to existing guidelines may result in fewer repeated consultations in primary care and earlier referrals to secondary care
