    The Non-universal behaviour of Cold Fermi Condensates with Narrow Feshbach Resonances

    In this paper we construct an effective field theory for a condensate of cold Fermi atoms whose scattering is controlled by a narrow Feshbach resonance. We show how, from first principles, it permits a hydrodynamic description of the BEC-BCS crossover from which the equation of state, intimately related to the speed of sound, can be derived. Specifically, we stress the non-universal behaviour of the equation of state at the unitary limit of infinite scattering length that arises when either, or both, of the range of the inter-atomic force and the scale of the molecular field become large.Comment: 7 pages, there is no differences in results between this (v2) and the older version (v1), but v2 makes the nature of the non-canonical behavior of the EOS cleare

    Muon-spin rotation measurements of the vortex state in Sr2_2RuO4_4: type-1.5 superconductivity, vortex clustering and a crossover from a triangular to a square vortex lattice

    Muon-spin rotation has been used to probe vortex state in Sr2_2RuO4_4. At moderate fields and temperatures a lattice of triangular symmetry is observed, crossing over to a lattice of square symmetry with increasing field and temperature. At lower fields it is found that there are large regions of the sample that are completely free from vortices which grow in volume as the temperature falls. Importantly this is accompanied by {\it increasing} vortex density and increasing disorder within the vortex-cluster containing regions. Both effects are expected to result from the strongly temperature-dependent long-range vortex attractive forces arising from the multi-band chiral-order superconductivity.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure

    Measurement of the spatial extent of inverse proximity in a Py/Nb/Py superconducting trilayer using low-energy muon-spin rotation

    The authors acknowledge the financial support of the EPSRC (Grant No. EP/J01060X).Muon-spin rotation has been used to observe directly the spatial variation of the magnetic flux density near the ferromagnetic-superconducting interface in a permalloy-niobium trilayer. Above the superconducting transition temperature Tc the profile of the induced magnetic flux density within the niobium layer has been determined. Below Tc there is a significant reduction of the induced flux density, predominantly near the ferromagnetic-superconducting interfaces. We are uniquely able to determine the magnitude and spatial variation of this reduction in induced magnetization due to the presence of the Cooper pairs, yielding the magnitude and length scale associated with this phenomenon. Both are inconsistent with a simple Meissner screening and indicate the existence of another mechanism, the influence of which is localized within the vicinity of the ferromagnetic interface.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe

    Coherency of the superconducting state: the muon spin rotation and ARPES studies of (BiPb)_2(SrLa)_2CuO_{6+\delta}

    The superfluid density \rho_s in underdoped (T_c\simeq23K), optimally doped (T_c\simeq35K) and overdoped (T_c\simeq29K) single crystalline (BiPb)_2(SrLa)_2CuO_{6+\delta} samples was studied by means of muon-spin rotation (\muSR). By combining the \muSR data with the results of ARPES measurements on similar samples [Nature 457, 296 (2009)] good self-consistent agreement is obtained between two techniques concerning the temperature and the doping evolution of \rho_s.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

    An Evaluation of the World-Views for the Grab-and-Glue Framework

    Creating simulation models based on the world-views such as the three-phase approach, the event-based approach, the activity-based approach and the processbased approach has been used as a standard practice for several decades. However, it is still not known whether they are suitable to be adopted or not when creating a simulation model by following the Grab-and-Glue framework. Hence, this paper aims at evaluating the suitability of accessing these world-views when building a simulation model based on the Grab-and-Glue framework. After an evaluation is conducted based on the proposed criteria, it is discovered that none of the world-views are suitable to be used. Hence, it is recommended that a new world-view is necessary to be developed for structuring the simulation model which is assembled based on the Grab-and-Glue framework
