    Neutrino Interactions In Color-Flavor-Locked Dense Matter

    At high density, diquarks could condense in the vacuum with the QCD color spontaneously broken. Based on the observation that the symmetry breaking pattern involved in this phenomenon is essentially the same as that of the Pati-Salam model with broken electroweak--color SU(3) group, we determine the relevant electroweak interactions in the color-flavor locked (CFL) phase in high density QCD. We briefly comment on the possible implications on the cooling of neutron stars.Comment: 13 pages. LaTeX.     We study the crystal base of the negative part of a quantum group. An explicit realization of the crystal is given in terms of Young tableaux for types AnA_n, BnB_n, CnC_n, DnD_n, and G2G_2. Connection between our realization and a previous realization of Cliff is also given

    Cross-Reactive Tumor Antigens in the Skin of Mice Exposed to Subcarcinogenic Doses of Ultraviolet Radiation

    This study suggests that cross-reactive tumor-associated antigens (TAA) are induced in the epidermis mice exposed to subcarcinogenic doses of ultraviolet radiation (UVR). Foot-pad immunization of C3H mice with viable epidermal cells from syngeneic UVR-exposed mice induced cytotoxic cells in the draining lymph nodes (DLN). These cells were capable of lysing a battery of UVR-induced tumor targets in a short-term chromium release assay. In contrast, the DLN cells of mice immunized with epidermal cells from normal non-UVR-exposed mice did not mature into effector cells with antitumor activity. The spectrum of tumor recognition of cytotoxic cells induced by immunization with UVR-exposed epidermal cells was identical to that of cytotoxic T cells obtained from animals that were foot-pad immunized with UVR-induced tumor cells. Both cytotoxic cell populations were shown to lyse tumors of diverse origin, including syngeneic UVR- and methylcholanthrene-induced tumors, as well as allogeneic UVR-induced tumors. These cells displayed minimal lytic activity against YAC-1 lymphoma cells, peritoneal exudate cells, and concanavalin A-stimulated splenocytes. The results from this study demonstrate that antigens are expressed on UVR-exposed mouse epidermal cells prior to the emergence of skin tumors, and these antigens can induce cytotoxic cells with specificity for TAA. We conclude that the early antigenic changes observed in UVR-exposed epidermis and their effect on the host's immune system may influence the emergence and progression of UVR-induced skin cancers

    The recent preprint by Mazin et al. [cond-mat/0212417] contains many inappropriate evaluations and/or criticisms on our published work [Phys. Rev. B 66, 020513 (2002) and Nature 418, 758 (2002)]. The preprint [cond-mat/0212417v1] was submitted to Physical Review B as a comment on one of our papers [Phys. Rev. B 66, 020513 (2002)]. In the reviewing process, Mazin et al. have withdrawn many of the statements contained in cond-mat/0212417v1, however two claims remain in their revised manuscript [cond-mat/0212417v3]: (1) the calculated variations of the superconducting energy gap within the sigma- or the pi-bands are not observable in real samples due to scatterings, and (2) the Coulomb repulsion mu(k,k') is negligibly small between sigma- and pi-states and thus should be approximated by a diagonal 2 x 2 matrix in the sigma and pi channels. Here, we point out that the former does not affect the validity of our theoretical work which is for the clean limit, and that the latter is not correct

    Anyonic Bogomol'nyi Solitons in a Gauged O(3) Sigma Model

    We introduce the self-dual abelian gauged O(3)O(3) sigma models where the Maxwell and Chern-Simons terms constitute the kinetic terms for the gauge field. These models have quite rich structures and various limits. Our models are found to exhibit both symmetric and broken phases of the gauge group.     The BPS Domain Wall Solutions in Self-Dual Chern-Simons-Higgs Systems

    We study domain wall solitons in the relativistic self-dual Chern-Simons Higgs systems by the dimensional reduction method to two dimensional spacetime. The Bogomolny bound on the energy is given by two conserved quantities in a similar way that the energy bound for BPS dyons is set in some Yang-Mills-Higgs systems in four dimensions. We find the explicit soliton configurations which saturate the energy bound and their nonrelativistic counter parts.     A KINETIC COMPARISON OF RUNNING ON TREADMILL AND OVERGROUND SURFACES: AN ANALYSIS OF PLANTAR PRESSURE

    The purpose of this study was to compare the plantar pressure in treadmill and overground running. It aimed to investigate whether treadmill is a suitable surface to carry out running shoe cushioning test. Fourteen male volunteers were recruited to run on four different running conditions i.e. treadmill, tartan, grass, and concrete with controlled running speed. A mobile plantar pressure measuring system was employed and peak pressure was measured. The results showed that the plantar pressure of treadmill running was different to that of overground running in total foot, medial midfoot, lateral midfoot and lesser toes

    ELECTROMYOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS ON LOWER EXTREMITY MUSCLES DURING OVERGROUND AND TREADMILL RUNNING

    The goal of this study was to compare treadmill running with overground running, so as to investigate if the shoe testing and training on treadmill can reflect the overground performance. Thirteen Chinese male subjects were instructed to run on the four conditions (1.Treadmill, 2.Tartan, 3.Grass, 4.Concrete). Comparisons between running conditions were made for muscle activity. The electromyography (EMG) signals from rectus femoris, tibialis anterior, biceps fermoris and medial gastrocnemius in one stride were evaluated. Results of the root mean square of EMG signal in rectus femoris, biceps femoris and gastrocnemius were found to be significantly different between overground and treadmill running during stance phase and the time point of toe off
