Addressing Traumatic Stress in the Acute Traumatically Injured Patient
Psychological injuries after an acute traumatic event are commonly overlooked. Currently within United States, there is no consistently utilized screening process that addresses traumatic stress within the acute trauma population. Roy\u27s Adaptation Model guided this project, focusing on the idea that bedside nurses are at the frontline of providing early identification through nursing assessment. The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate whether the implementation of the Primary Care-Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PC-PTSD) screening tool by bedside nurses would result in identifying more patients at risk for traumatic stress after an acute trauma as compared with the use of no screening method. This descriptive survey study took place over a 6-week period at a Midwest Level 1 trauma hospital. The results revealed that the tool did not increase the number of health psychology consults when compared with the same 6-week period a year prior when no tool was used. Nonetheless, use of the PC-PTSD tool did trigger 28% of the patients to receive a health psychology consult. Forty-five percent of patients who received a health psychology consult were recommended outpatient therapy. Utilization of this tool by bedside nurses did not adversely increase a number of inappropriate health psychology consults. These results agree with the literature and further suggest that there are a clinically significant number of acute trauma patients who are at risk for traumatic stress. With this screening tool, nurses accurately assessed patients and connected them with timely psychological treatment
Soil Traversing Arthropod Populations as Sampled by Pitfall Traps in Sunflower and Three Adjacent Habitats in Northeast Arkansas
Soil traversing arthropod populations were sampled by pitfall traps in sunflower (Helianthus spp.) and three adjacent habitats during the months of July, August and September of 1980 and May, June, July and August of 1981. In1980, four varieties of sunflower (Ellar, Hybrid 670, 891 and S-345) were planted. A single variety of sunflower (Ellar) was planted in1981. The three adjacent habitats in both 1980 and 1981 were a pine stand, grass border and fence row. Of 1,748 specimens collected in 1980, 17 orders and 48 families were represented. Four orders comprised 78% of the total catch: Hymenoptera (45%), Acari (17%), Collembola(11%) and Coleoptera (5%). In 1981, 20 orders and 64 families were represented in a total of 26,693 trapped specimens. Four orders composed 88% of the total catch: Collembola (57%), Acari (14%), Hymenoptera (11%) and Homoptera (6%). Pentatomidae of Arkansas
A total of 30 genera and 53 species and subspecies of Pentatomidae are reported as occurring or possibly occurring in Arkansas. Fifty species and subspecies contained in 29 genera were collected or recorded from previously collected material. Based on distributional records in the literature, three additional species and one genus are listed as probably occurring in Arkansas. County and seasonal records are reported for each taxon
Elliptic genera of ALE and ALF manifolds from gauged linear sigma models
We compute the equivariant elliptic genera of several classes of ALE and ALF
manifolds using localization in gauged linear sigma models. In the sigma model
computation the equivariant action corresponds to chemical potentials for U(1)
currents and the elliptic genera exhibit interesting pole structure as a
function of the chemical potentials. We use this to decompose the answers into
polar terms that exhibit wall crossing and universal terms. We compare our
results to previous results on the large radius limit of the Taub-NUT elliptic
genus and also discuss applications of our results to counting of BPS
world-sheet spectrum of monopole strings in the 5d N=2 super Yang-Mills theory
and self-dual strings in the 6d N=(2,0) theories.Comment: 1+60 page
The Evolution of Density Structure of Starless and Protostellar Cores
We present a near-infrared extinction study of nine dense cores at
evolutionary stages between starless to Class I. Our results show that the
density structure of all but one observed cores can be modeled with a single
power law rho \propto r^p between ~ 0.2R-R of the cores. The starless cores in
our sample show two different types of density structures, one follows p ~ -1.0
and the other follows p ~ -2.5, while the protostellar cores all have p ~ -2.5.
The similarity between the prestellar cores with p ~ -2.5 and protostellar
cores implies that those prestellar cores could be evolving towards the
protostellar stage. The slope of p ~ -2.5 is steeper than that of an singular
isothermal sphere, which may be interpreted with the evolutionary model of

Three-Charge Black Holes and Quarter BPS States in Little String Theory
We show that the system of NS5-branes wrapping
has non-trivial vacuum structure. Different vacua have different spectra of 1/4
BPS states that carry momentum and winding around the . In one vacuum,
such states are described by black holes; in another, they can be thought of as
perturbative BPS states in Double Scaled Little String Theory. In general, both
kinds of states are present. We compute the degeneracy of perturbative BPS
states exactly, and show that it differs from that of the corresponding black
holes. We comment on the implication of our results to the black hole
microstate program, UV/IR mixing in Little String Theory, string
thermodynamics, the string/black hole transition, and other issues.Comment: 53 pages, 3 figure
Localized tachyon condensation and G-parity conservation
We study the condensation of localized tachyon in non-supersymmetric orbifold
{\C^2/\Z_n}. We first show that the G-parities of chiral primaries are
preserved under the condensation of localized tachyon(CLT) given by the chiral
primaries. Using this, we finalize the proof of the conjecture that the
lowest-tachyon-mass-squared increases under CLT at the level of type II string
with full consideration of GSO projection. We also show the equivalence between
the -parity given by coming from partition function
and that given by coming from the monomial

Design of hydraulic output Stirling engine
A hydraulic output system for the RE-1000 free piston stirling engine (FPSE) was designed. The hydraulic output system can be readily integrated with the existing hot section of RE-1000 FPSE. The system has two simply supported diaphragms which separate the engine gas from the hydraulic fluid, a dynamic balance mechanism, and a novel, null center band hydraulic pump. The diaphragms are designed to endure more than 10 billion cycles, and to withstand the differential pressure load as high as 14 MPa. The projected thermodynamic performance of the hydraulic output version of RE-1000 FPSE is 1.87 kW at 29/7 percent brake efficiency
The Relationship between Teacher Efficacy and Reading Program Type in West Virginia Elementary Schools
This study, based on Bandura’s social cognitive theory, explored the two dimensions of teacher efficacy among reading program types (Harcourt; Houghton Mifflin; MacMillan McGraw Hill; Pearson Scott Foresman; and, Other) and selected demographic factors (school enrollment size; student ethnicity; school district of urban, rural, and suburban; student socioeconomic status; teacher’s level of education; teacher’s years of experience; and, teacher certification of highly qualified or not-highly qualified). Utilizing Gibson and Dembo’s Teacher Efficacy Scale (TES) combined with an author-created selected demographic questionnaire, a sample of 364 elementary teachers participated representing a population of 6,204 elementary teachers of reading. A one-way ANOVA revealed that there was no significant difference of general teaching efficacy among the reading program types, no significant difference of personal teaching efficacy among the reading program types, but found differences of personal teaching efficacy between Harcourt and MacMillan McGraw Hill reading programs. A lack of significance was found between general teaching efficacy and all selected demographic factors and between personal teaching efficacy and all selected demographic factors. Conclusions suggest that teaching efficacy among the reading program types and the selected demographics are more similar than different. Implications for practical application include continuation of National Reading Panel’s (2000) recommendations, Reading First/ K-3 Tiered Reading Model essential reading elements, and fidelity to the core reading program. Theoretical implications include review and synthesis of teacher efficacy research for critical elements of motivation. Suggestions for universities to market opportunities for advanced degrees in reading and utilization of teacher efficacy research in courses were encouraged
