Picture Quality and Sound Quality of OLED TVs

Get PDF
Unlike the past when cathode-ray tube (CRT) dominated display industry, many different types of flat panel displays (FPDs) are now leading the industry. Of these, organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display has recently become a next-generation display since this display is recognised as having advantages over other competing technologies in picture quality and form factor. With major attributes of picture quality considered, a series of evaluations based on objective measures was performed with an OLED TV compared to an LCD TV. OLED TV outperformed LCD TV 100 times in black, 20 times in colour contrast, 30% in dynamic range coverage, 50 times in local contrast and 20 times in viewing angle. In addition, sound quality of the OLED TV was assessed using both objective and subjective evaluation methods compared to conventional TV speakers since OLED panel speaker technology was recently commercialised. The OLED panel speaker showed better performance both in objective and subjective methods

Recent genetic association studies have identified 55 genetic loci associated with obesity or body mass index (BMI). The vast majority, 51 loci, however, were identified in European-ancestry populations. We conducted a meta-analysis of associations between BMI and ∼2.5 million genotyped or imputed single nucleotide polymorphisms among 86 757 individuals of Asian ancestry, followed by in silico and de novo replication among 7488–47 352 additional Asian-ancestry individuals. We identified four novel BMI-associated loci near the KCNQ1 (rs2237892, P = 9.29 × 10−13), ALDH2/MYL2 (rs671, P = 3.40 × 10−11; rs12229654, P = 4.56 × 10−9), ITIH4 (rs2535633, P = 1.77 × 10−10) and NT5C2 (rs11191580, P = 3.83 × 10−8) genes. The association of BMI with rs2237892, rs671 and rs12229654 was significantly stronger among men than among women. Of the 51 BMI-associated loci initially identified in European-ancestry populations, we confirmed eight loci at the genome-wide significance level (P < 5.0 × 10−8) and an additional 14 at P < 1.0 × 10−3 with the same direction of effect as reported previously. Findings from this analysis expand our knowledge of the genetic basis of obesity

Ambient-Stable and Durable Conductive Ag-Nanowire-Network 2-D Films Decorated with a Ti Layer

No full text
Highly stable and durable conductive silver nanowire (Ag NW) network electrode films were prepared through decoration with a 5-nm-thick Ti layer. The Ag NW network 2-D films showed sheet resistance values as low as 32 ohm/sq at 88% transparency when decorated with Ti. These 2-D films exhibited a 30% increase in electrical conductivity while maintaining good stability of the films through enhanced resistance to moisture and oxygen penetration as a result of the protective effect of the Ti layer

We report the fabrication of stretchable sensor films (SSF) using a composite of functionalized polypyrrole- single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT)-silver nanowire hybrid networks embedded into a cross-linked polydimethylsiloxane elastomer. The SSF exhibited low resistivity of 30 Ω/sq and an outstanding mechanical elasticity of up to 25% (no visible change in the sheet resistance after 100 cycle at stretching-release test of 25%). These SSFs were responsive to 1 ppm ammonia gas even at a low temperature of 40 °C with 20% relative humidity and also maintained reproducibility and reversibility when repeatedly exposed to ammonia gas more than 100 times. In addition, it was confirmed that the sensor film was hardly affected even at a relative humidity range of 20% to 80%

Controlling the size of silver nanowires produced by a tetrabutylammonium dichlorobromide salt-based polyol process: Kinetics of silver crystal growth

Long silver nanowires (Ag NWs) with lengths of ∼65 μm and aspect ratios as high as 1500 were synthesized using a tetrabutylammonium dichlorobromide (TBADCB) salt-based polyol process. The kinetics of crystal growth was studied using stepwise scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and surface Plasmon resonance spectroscopy. The diameters of the Ag NWs were shown to be strongly dependent on the molar concentration of TBADCB/AgNO3. We further demonstrated that the length of the Ag NWs could be controlled by adjusting the reaction temperature at the nucleation step or by varying the stirring speed. NWs with lengths of up to 60 μm and diameters as large as 32 nm were obtained when unidirectional axial stirring was performed at 1000 rpm using a T-shaped impeller, and at an initial nucleation temperature of 20°C. The obtained two-dimensional conducive Ag NW network films exhibited good optical properties, with a low haze of ≤1.0% and 98% transmittance at 60 Ω/sq, similar to the properties of the films compared of 20-nm-diameter Ag NWs (aspect ratio: ∼1000)

Real-Gas-Flamelet-Model-Based Numerical Simulation and Combustion Instability Analysis of a GH2/LOX Rocket Combustor with Multiple Injectors

A large eddy simulation (LES) and combustion instability analysis are performed using OpenFOAM for the multiple shear-coaxial injector combustor DLR-BKD (in German Deutsches Zentrum für Luft–Brennkammer D, German Aerospace Center–Combustion Chamber D), which is a laboratory-scale combustor operating in a real-gas environment. The Redlich–Kwong–Peng–Robinson equation of state and steady-laminar flamelet model are adopted in the simulation to accurately capture the real-gas combustion effects. Moreover, the stable combustion under the LP4 condition is numerically analyzed, and the characteristics of the combustion flow field are investigated. In the numerical simulation of the combustion instability, the instability is generated by artificially superimposing the 1st transverse standing wave solution on the stable combustion solution. To decompose the combustion instability mode, the dynamic mode decomposition method is applied. Several combustion instability modes are qualitatively and quantitatively identified through contour plots and graphs, and the sustenance process of the limit cycle is investigated

Enhanced Anti-Freezing Heating Cable Standard for Fire Prevention

Among the fire reports caused by seasonal devices registered with the Korea Fire Information Center in 2021, fires caused by heating cables accounted for the largest portion with 350 cases. As a result of analyzing the heating cable fires from 2015 to 2021, we have classified the heating cable fires into four types according to the method of winding the heating wire. First, we hypothesized that the temperature is high when the density is high due to the overlap of the hot wires or when there is a thermal insulating material. We predicted that the temperature would rise through a random game and established a reproducibility test plan. In order to check how heat generation changes depending on the winding method of antifreeze heating cables, we selected 10 manufacturers and checked the temperature characteristics according to the test conditions (Paragraph 11, Paragraph 19.101) of the Technical Regulations for Electrical and Telecommunication Products and Components of Korea (K 10013), tested the four methods mentioned in this thesis and compared and analyzed the results. The experiment results indicate that the temperature of the heater part in antifreeze heating cables was mostly higher than the conditions required by the existing standards in cases 1 to 4. In particular, in the case of No. 5 manufacturer’s sample, the temperature of the heating cable of Case 1 was measured to be the highest at 119.0 °C. In addition, as a result of applying the data engineering reproducibility test results in the framework of the random game λ proposed in this thesis, we have derived the same results as the predicted hypothesis. Case 1 refers to the case where a fire occurs due to the heating cable being wrapped around the water pipe and insulation or taped outside; It is one of the methods that users actually use a lot in the field. Based on experiment, we have concluded that the fire risk is high under the Case 1 condition. Thus, the test conditions in the existing K 10013 Standard need to be strengthened according to the Case 1 condition
