Modified spiral wound retaining ring
A spiral wound retaining ring with angled ends is described. The ring is crimped at the same angle as the ring ends to maintain a constant thickness dimension. The angling of the ends of the ring and crimp allow the ends to be positioned closer together while maintaining enough clearance to enable insertion and removal of the ring. By reducing the separation distance between the ends a stronger ring results since the double layer area of the ring is maximized

Tarski monoids: Matui's spatial realization theorem
We introduce a class of inverse monoids, called Tarski monoids, that can be
regarded as non-commutative generalizations of the unique countable, atomless
Boolean algebra. These inverse monoids are related to a class of etale
topological groupoids under a non-commutative generalization of classical Stone
duality and, significantly, they arise naturally in the theory of dynamical
systems as developed by Matui. We are thereby able to reinterpret a theorem of
Matui on a class of \'etale groupoids as an equivalent theorem about a class of
Tarski monoids: two simple Tarski monoids are isomorphic if and only if their
groups of units are isomorphic. The inverse monoids in question may also be
viewed as countably infinite generalizations of finite symmetric inverse
monoids. Their groups of units therefore generalize the finite symmetric groups

Graph inverse semigroups: their characterization and completion
Graph inverse semigroups generalize the polycyclic inverse monoids and play
an important role in the theory of C*-algebras. This paper has two main goals:
first, to provide an abstract characterization of graph inverse semigroups; and
second, to show how they may be completed, under suitable conditions, to form
what we call the Cuntz-Krieger semigroup of the graph. This semigroup is the
ample semigroup of a topological groupoid associated with the graph, and the
semigroup analogue of the Leavitt path algebra of the graph.Comment: Some minor corrections made and tangential material remove
Thermochemical generation of hydrogen
The direct fluid contact heat exchange with H2SO4 at about 330 C prior to high temperature decomposition at about 830 C in the oxygen release step of several thermochemical cycles for splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen provides higher heat transfer rates, savings in energy and permits use of cast vessels rather than expensive forged alloy indirect heat exchangers. Among several candidate perfluorocarbon liquids tested, only perfluoropropylene oxide polymers having a degree of polymerization from about 10 to 60 were chemically stable, had low miscibility and vapor pressure when tested with sulfuric acid at temperatures from 300 C to 400 C
Potential heat exchange fluids for use in sulfuric acid vaporizers
A series of perhalocarbons are proposed as candidate heat exchange fluids for service in thermochemical cycles for hydrogen production that involve direct contact of the fluid with sulfuric acid and vaporization of the acid. The required chemical and physical criteria of the liquids are described and the results of some preliminary high temperature test data are presented
